My daughter aged 14 years is type 1 diabetic diagnosed recently. She is taking insulin injections 3 to 4 times a day. Her hands and thighs are all full of injections pricks. Swelling has started now on the places where we try to give injections. Kindly suggest.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Tumkur
You can give insulin injection on the abdomen. You have to rotate the site of injection to avoid swelling. Suppose you give today on left top, tomorrow right top, then right down & so on.

Your current fbs and plbs are fine however they could be better. Fungal infection tells us that probably your sugar level is not consistently under control and it could be going higher at times. You will need to do a test called hba1c and will maybe require a change in the treatment based on the same. Heel pain could have multiple causes and glaucoma needs to be treated as per an ophthalmologist.

Mr. Lybrate-user, it may be possible that due to diabetes he may be having fungal infection and that could be the cause of itching. Does he have any skin lesions like red papules (small pin head size swellings red in colour). If so then he may need anti fungal treatment plus anti itching drugs. Plus he should have good blood sugar control.

My Father is suffering from splenomegaly and he is not able to eat anything coz of stomach ache. He is also a diabetic patient. Is any operation required for him to recover like a normal man?

Mr. Lybrate-user, it is better to consult a competent surgeon, based on his opinion, further treatment can be done. If the enlarged spleen is affecting stomach functioning, he would be the better expert to advise. Do not delay. In the mean time also take care to maintain his blood glucose strictly. Thanks.

Dear Doctors, It is mentioned on social media that 2-3 table spoon of olive oil at bed time and early morning gives amazing results for diabetic patients. Does it hold any truth? Thanks.

1. Olive oil is not a panacea (cure) for Diabetes. 2. 5-6 Tablespoons of oil will add 600-720 (120 cals per tbsp) additional calories to your intake every day. 3. That can lead to added 2-3 KGS on your body every month. 4. Additional weight will lead to increased level of sugar. 5. To manage Diabetes you need to reduce extra calories coming from carbs and oils.

This disease isn't just about increased blood sugar level but it also about synthesis of acidic sugar which is harmful in body. For it you need proper posture which maintain and avoid pressure on your low back. Flexion regimen of exercises snd calcium c3 is helpful in this condition. And for stomach you use rise onn syrup. For diabetes you use dia freel tab, twin stem sachet, elix r nimu, elix r goya. Your diabetes level is in under control and maintain asap.

Cut down your weight. Avoid fatty and high carb food like refined sugars, sweets, potatoes, rice and many others. At this level of blood sugar you need medical management.

I am 41 years old. Kindly tell me is obemac is safe to use. Or it has some side effects? I am a hyper thyroid patient. please suggest soon.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Thanks for the query. Obemac is a fat burner. But, most fat burners in my experience have majorly not worked. Most people take it as a “trial and error” product meaning that they only find out that most often it's not really effective after trying it. Keep in mind that obemac is not recommended for people with cardiac problems. Most people claim to have experience little or no difference at all after using a fat burner. Like any fat burner there are chances of side effects. Give your body a chance to lose weight by natural and healthy ways. That's more lasting.
