Mr. Lybrate-user, it is seen that after quiting smoking some weight increase occurs. However, if you have diabetes then regular exercise must have been advised. If you had continued that plus diet control the weight would have remained in check. It essential to control weight for sugar control. If you have no discomfort in exercising then do regular workout and reduce the weight.

lybrate-user, You are on treatment with thyroxine tablets, which is the right treatment for hypothyroidism. Howere, to be free from all the symptoms TSH level has to be brought between 3 to 4 mU/L. So it appears your Thyroxine dosage is low. Needs to be increased. Thanks.

If you manage your diet well and eat proteins like egg, fish, chicken or paneer or beans, then your protein requirements will be taken care off. With every meal eat a little bit of protein. Lower the amount of starches from your meals and add healthy oils like ghee, cold pressed coconut oil, cold pressed til oil. If at all you want to supplement then you can use whey protein powder.

Mr Sanjay, All the three conditions need to be in proper control with appropriate drugs, then only the patient is in good health and shape. For diabetes and hypertension strict control of blood sugar and blood pressure is very essential. Unless all the details are made available like fasting and PP sugar levels, HbA1c%, BP readings, weight and height, drugs being taken with dosage and dietary pattern and amount of exercise done daily, it is difficult for me to give any specific suggestions. Anxious feeling is mainly due to improper control of the condition.. Apart from taking proper medications she should take a restricted diet, providing exact calories based on her ideal body weight, sugar levels, and extent of exercise. Should avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. Consume good deal of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits (100 g a day) . Her salt intake has to be restricted to 2.3 g a day. Avoid pickles and papad . Should walk for at least 45 minutes a day. This routine has to be continuously followed. If you want any specific advice then please come in a private conversation, where i can give specific suggestions.

I am 38-year-old unmarried hypothyroid 60 kg .First I was hyperthyroid in 2001 and was on Neomercazole. In 2005 two doses radio iodine taken. Then on 100 mcg eltroxin for 7 yrs. Then 125 mcg thyronorm till 2016. Now 125 mcg thyronorm 5 days and 100 mcg 2 days per week. I had some needle like growth near inner labia portion after radioiodine last dose. I treated it with thuja and nitric acid homoeo medicine then. It went out from inner side to outside labia. L continued thuja. Then it appeared all over. Later itching persisted on those parts and a lump remained on iñner side of labia with itching. Also had consistent white discharge from 2010. But after taking medicine from gynecologist white discharge subsided. But small bump and itching persisted with discomfort increasing during periods. A doctor diagnosed it as contact dermatitis from this site. So as a natural cure for it l tried apple cider vinegar on the lump and it disappeared but same growth now appeared on outside labia with itching. i apply apple cider vinegar and trying but itch and slight protrusion has not gone fully. Is there any remedy.

Hi If your height is 1.5748 meters (5' 2"), then your ideal body can be up to 57 kgs. With 62 kgs, your BMI is 25 kgs/M2, (normal <23 kgs/M2). It means you are over weight by 5 kgs. Earlier the weight was less than normal. Hypothyroidism does lead to weight gain, particularly if TSH level is not maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L. Plus if one does not exercise regularly and adhere to diet restriction. Since, there is no mention about current TSH level, it is difficult give any suggestion. Thanks.

What's the treatment for diabetic neuropathy in the lower limbs. Is there a way to reverse diabetic neuropathy.

What's the treatment for diabetic neuropathy in the lower limbs. Is there a way to reverse diabetic neuropathy.
Mr Amod, Diabetic neuropathy occurring in lower limbs can not be reversed, as damage to the nerve endings due hyperglycaemia is permanent. But further deterioration can be prevented by strict blood sugar control, and symptoms of neuropathy can be relieved by using certain drugs. It will be better if you give details like current fasting and PP sugar levels, HbA1c% and drugs being taken with dosage and come in a private conversation then i can give specific suggestions.

I am 64 year old male having burning sensation in both the feet. I am in the border line of diabetic. I was advised by the doctor to control diet rather than taking any medicine. What is the cause and solution ?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
It is not as easy task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (self-monitoring of blood glucose? smbg). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of fasting sugar (fbs) and 2 hours after food (ppbs) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ insulin will be needed. For sugar control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me privately with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch. Www. Lybrate. Com/drsajeev your prolonged pre diabetic stage may be the cause of burning sensation as a result of diabetic neuropathy. Get back privately with your results. Fbs. 2 hr ppbs,& hba1c.

Deally fasting and pp sugar levels are better to come to know if one has a hyperglycemia. But even random sugar also is a good indicator. Rbs <140 mg is considered normal. Your reading is quite good. There appears to be no problem.

Hi Please avoid honey as it is another version of sugar. Sugar free has empty calories and has no nutrients in it. To satisfy your sweet tooth you can take fresh dates occasionally with normal control of blood sugars. Avoid 3 white ingredients from your diet list. SUGAR, RICE, REFINED FLOUR. Avoid carbohydrates, alcohol, butter, red meat, alcohol, breads, biscuits. Avoid fruits at bedtime and with your major meals. Always snack on your fruit. Most importantly apart from diet you need some medicines to control your blood sugar.
