The goal of treatment of Bipolar disorder is not just quick relief from the current mood episode but to be able to prevent future mood eposides. Hence treatment doesn’t end after the remission of current mood episode but it is very important to continue the treatment for a long period of time (depending upon case to case...but at least one year) to prevent or at least reduce the risk of developing future mood eposides. This long term treatment is called maintenance phase. It is important to visit ur psychiatrist regularly as medications need to be adjusted/changed according to the phase of treatment a Bipolar pt is in. It is a delicate balancing act.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Your present condition is called general anxiety disorder. It is pretty common and no need to worry about it. General anxiety disorder treatment consists of cognitive behavioral therapy, life style changes, relaxation therapy and meditation. Once you learn how to manage your anxiety yourself with the help of the above treatment methods, you will be cured and you can stop the medicines if any.

Sometimes you may not be aware of stress because it has not yet manifest itself in any obvious or disturbing way. Your disturbed sleep itself can be a cause, or concern for stress because you have grossly disturbed your biorhythm. I do not know how long you have been suffering this kind of disturbance but if you have developed a pattern during exams and now find it difficult to get out of it, you may have a new sleep habit. At this age there is also a concern that you are looking at a problem in some manner or fashion that needs attention. This may then precipitate an impending condition that is seeking a resolution, for the last time. Whatever the situation, you may still follow some good habits that will help induce sleep, even if it takes care of the symptom only. There are 86 diseases that are directly affected by lack of sleep i.e. less than 6 hours per night. You must talk to a professional and deal with the stress. Yoga, meditation, and stress management exercises with definitely help. You must also do vigorous exercise every day, whether you get sleep or not. You should wake up at a uniform time every day, even if you don’t get sleep. You could sleep in the afternoon but try not to exceed 20 minutes to catch up with lost sleep, and that too only if necessary. Ideally, it is better not to sleep during the day at all. Even if you do not get sleep get to bed at a uniform time like 10.30 and just lie down and read some non-stimulating material. In the lying down position the body tends to regress to a childlike state and will induce sleep. Do not get up to switch off the light, and so you need to arrange for a bed lamp that can be put off at a stretch of a hand. Do not take alcohol, tea, coffee, soft drinks etc. before going to bed. A warm glass of milk before bedtime improves sleep for various reasons. Have dinner early and always make it a pure carbohydrate meal that can be had with any vegetables. Make the room as dark as possible but warm and cozy. Block out all forms of light entering the room through windows. The room must have reasonable cross-ventilation. There must not be any LED lights nearby your bed. Reduce all kinds of sounds around you: light music may be put on if it induces sleep for you with the ‘sleep’ function on. In rare cases you could watch TV in a lying position and switch off when you feel drowsy. There are some odors that could stimulate you and prevent sleep from happening; kindly examine that – this includes perfumes, soap scents, and even laundry detergents. Check out if a warm or cold bath induces sleep for you, and do that before retiring. If you have exhausted yourself through exercise, you will find it easier to relax into a stupor. Contemplate on calm and relaxing thoughts while in bed: decontaminate your mind from all the stresses of the day before going to bed. You could acquire a recording of gradual relaxation and guided relaxation routines. Sleep with your head facing North, and do not sleep directly under an overhead fan. Sleep as far as possible on your left ear. Try these for now and if these fail you must meet with a counselor and work out other matters that may be causing the insomnia.

What Is Parental Depression? How to Support Each Other?

Mother and Child Care, Panchkula
What Is Parental Depression? How to Support Each Other?

Parental Depression is an aspect which affects the innocent child, right from the time it is in the mother's womb.

Maternal depression could be due to various reasons ranging from familial disharmony to poor health. Unfortunately, a depressed mother's pessimistic thoughts could pass on to the pure soul inside her. So the effect starts in utero. After birth, she may be careless and negligent towards a child whose most important requirement is love. And children of these mothers become victims of behavioral and cognitive problems and poor school performers. They may also acquire the illness of depression eventually.

A depressed father will display stress and agitation instead of engaging the young minds in interesting learning or other activities.

Hence, before stepping into parenthood, it's important to be mentally fit and not just physically healthy. Exercise and meditation is of great help and of course a happy home environment.

Supporting each other is the key to getting things on track again.

  • Talk to your spouse: Chat with your spouse, showing affection, doing things with them and encouraging them to get out of the house are important.
  • Appreciate her but respect your family: Help her see that the family needs her and appreciates that she is expecting. While doing the same ensure that you respect the feelings of your family members.
  • Opt for specialist care: Offer to see a therapist and encourage her to take medications. Getting the help of an expert helps get guidance to handle difficult situations.
  • Be emotionally present with her: Go with her to as many antenatal checkups as you can, and make sure you are there for the ultrasound scans. This encourages a woman and gives her the satisfaction that her partner is involved.
  • Compliment her and pay attention to her: Many women find it difficult to cope with the changes in their body during pregnancy. She may be worried about stretch marks, concerned about weight gain or just be feeling not much like her old self. Make sure to compliment her and let her know how much you love her.
  • Be a shoulder for her to cry on: Listen to all of her concerns, and offer her the reassurance and support she really needs.
  • Be there to help: After the birth, your partner will need time to recover. She will be exhausted, sore and hormonal, and will be relying on you for support. Help with the baby, and do as much as you can.

Common cause of an itchy throat then is dehydration which causes the throat to become dry and hoarse as the body can no longer produce mucus. The obvious solution to this dehydration is to drink water. Similarly other behaviours can strain your throat – such as shouting loudly, singing loudly (and using incorrect technique – and snoring. Some medicines (antidepressants among others) and smoking which coats the throat in tar .

Hi lybrate-user, the first step to getting back the colour of your lips is to stop smoking. Quitting can have some really amazing and immediate effects on your body. Apart from that, drinking enough water and keeping your lips well moisturised is an essential part of getting back their colour. Another great way to help your lips regain their colour is to exfoliate them regularly and avoid licking your lips (as this will only make them drier and tend to cause a change in their colour). Home remedies to lighten lips naturally toothbrush exfoliation: this is an extremely simple way to exfoliate your lips. All you need is to apply some petroleum jelly or olive oil on your lips and use a soft tooth brush to gently exfoliate them. Run the brush over your lips in gentle circular motions for about three to four minutes. Then wash your lips with some warm water and apply some desi ghee on them to keep them moisturised. Sugar and lemon exfoliation: this is another method to exfoliate your lips. Take a teaspoon of sugar, add a few drops of olive oil and lemon to the mix. Now take this paste and apply it on your lips. Gently massage your lips with this paste using soft circular motions to exfoliate them. Once all the sugar has dissolved or fallen off, wash away the excess with normal water. Lip packs lemon and honey pack: this is a great bleaching and moisturising pack. The lemon helps to change the colour of your lips and the honey nourishes the lips, making them soft and supple. To make this pack, take equal quantities of the juice of a lemon and honey. Mix it well and apply this on your lips. Allow it to stay for about twenty to thirty minutes and wash it off with normal water. Honey is great for supple and soft skin, know more here. Glycerine and lemon pack: again, a great natural bleaching and moisturising pack, this pack is best used just before you go to bed. Mix equal quantities of glycerine and lemon and apply this to your lips and allow it to stay overnight. Wash it off the next morning with normal water. Know other beauty benefits of glycerine here. Almond oil and honey pack: this pack uses the goodness of almonds and honey to change the colour of your lips. Mix some almond oil with honey in equal quantities and apply it to your lips. Now allow this mixture to stay for about thirty minutes and wash it off with plain water. Apply this pack three to four times a day for best results. Rose petals and milk pack: roses have amazing effect on the lips. Not only does it lend them a pinkish hue, but it also nourishes the skin. This pack is especially good to exfoliate your lips and make them look fuller. To make this pack, crush some fresh rose petals and add milk cream (malai) and honey to the paste. Now mix it well and apply the paste to your lips. Allow it to stay for fifteen to twenty minutes and then wash it off first with milk and then with water. Here are some beauty benefits of raw milk. Beetroot pack: beetroots have been used for centuries by women to make their lips look healthy, pink and plumper. But apart from the colour that beetroot lends to the lip, s it also adds to the overall health of the skin. Grate a little fresh beetroot and add some lemon and milk cream (malai) to the mix. Apply this paste on your lips and wash off after fifteen to twenty minutes. Turmeric and lemon pack: this pack employs the healing properties of turmeric and the bleaching effect of lemon to make it a great pack for lighter lips. Take a teaspoonful of turmeric and add the juice of half a lemon to it. Now mix well and apply this paste on your lips. Leave it on for about ten minutes and then wash off with water. Turmeric or haldi ensures glowing skin, know more about it here. Pomegranate and malai pack: the coarseness of pomegranate seeds and the colour it imparts is a very effective tool to change the colour of your lips from an unattractive blackish blue to healthy pink. To make this pack, grind a few pomegranate seeds into a coarse paste. Now, add some milk cream or malai to the paste and apply it on your lips. Allow it to stay for a few minutes and wash it off with normal water. For all these home remedies to work, it is essential that you moisturise your lips well after you wash off the pack. Remember that these are home remedies, they will give results only after prolonged use. So, just follow any one of the tips and watch your lips go back to their original colour. Also, know how to make lip balm at home. Hope this helps.

I have a lot of tension because of my study. I am not able to eat food. What should I do?
Dear, Welcome to Lybrate. Tension means stress and related anxiety. Anxiety is fear about unknown happening or fear about future. Anxiety about things which we do not know or anxiety about things we are not experienced are common. Stress is simply a reaction to a stimulus that disturbs our physical or mental equilibrium. In other words, it's an omnipresent part of life. A stressful event can trigger the “fight-or-flight” response, causing hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol to surge through the body. You are troubled by your studies. You should learn to study in such a way that study never tenses you. Please consult a psychologist online. Take care.

Stress can not be cured by medicine alone. What is your bp you have to make changes in your routine so as to feel relaxed. For the time being you do 1/ morning walk for 30 mts 2. Deep breathing exercise for 5- 10 mts daily 3. These will remove any amount of stress you get in routine. Try for 15 days and report.

5 Ways to Fight Depression If you feel depressed, it's best to do something about it — depression doesn't just go away on its own. In addition to getting help from a doctor or therapist, here are 5 things you can do to feel better. 1.Exercise. Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better. 2.Nurture yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat. Proper nutrition can influence a person's mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don't feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going). 3.Identify troubles, but don't dwell on them. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what's got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. 4. Express yourself. With depression, a person's creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood. 5. Try to notice good things. Depression affects a person's thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don't forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal. If you are happy with these answers please click on "useful” link so that I can know my efforts are not wasted. If you want more clarifications or prescription for medicines consult me on this site to ask me directly and not in open questions session It's not easy to say exactly what causes depression and anxiety – it's different for everyone. Sometimes a difficult time in you or your mates' life can set off depression or anxiety, sometimes it's caused by a combination of things that has built up over time and sometimes, there's just no obvious cause at all.

This is a very delicate and important phase of your married life: the first two years is when you build your relationship and learn to make all the adjustments for the rest of your lives. According to how these two years go, the rest of your life will be the same. So you are already starting on the wrong foot! If it is the others in the family then speak to your husband and move out and live on your own, if you can afford it. This is the best solution because if you lived in his house you are an in-law and cannot say anything. Whereas, if you lived in your own home, you can live in peace and live to love each other. Show him this response and see what he has to say. If he is not willing to listen then do meet with a marriage counselor and get talking about solutions, and that person can also help you to learn to live in the same house if you went for what is called ‘continuing counseling’.

Record on a notebook in what situations, with whom, why you get angry and write down/list out the other possible ways of dealing with such conditions. You can go for a brisk walk during that time and at the most hit repeatedly a pillow assuming that you are hitting the person you are angry with. Learn and regularly practice pranayama which can soothen your sympathetic nervous system arousal that responsible for your prolonged anger.
