My 10 months old daughter is not feeling well since yesterday. She has a little bit fever (99 temp). Should I give her some medicine or of will be automatically cured? Pp suggest.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Surat
Please keep regular record of her temperature and see if it's rising. You hv to watch for other symptoms like cough cold, vomiting, lethargy or rashes before proceeding with this temperature. I prefer symptomatic treatment and general care till the fever is low grade without any systemic involvement.

Hi doctor I want to ask that my baby is just 13 month old. And lots of mosquitoes bites my baby whenever I used to go out ,although I am using odomos spray but still no use. What other thing should I use on mosquito bites.

BSc - Food Science & Nutrition, PGD in Sports Nutrition and Dietitics
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Hello, Keep baby covered and avoid taking her out in the evening. You can keep camphor near your window, as it will present mosquitoes entry.

My baby is 9 months old and is 9kgs, have started giving him khichdi, boiled vegetables, idli, mashed chapatis. He passes stool (solid) 2 to 3 times a day especially after eating, does that mean I overfeeding him? how will I know if something is not getting digested for him? please suggest a proper diet for him to put on good weight.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Tumkur
Your baby's weight is adequate for the age & whatever foods you are giving is correct. Some children pass stools as soon as they are fed. It is called as exaggerated gastrocolic reflex. As long as the stools are well formed nothing to worry about it.

My Son 19 months, keeps getting cold again n again. Almost every month. I take him to Dr. who mostly prescribes him 5 ml Advent suspension with other syrups. Is this a high antibiotic? Is there any other home remedy or anything better I can do for him?

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Tumkur
There's nothing like high or low antibiotics. All antibiotics should be used judiciously as it may lead to resistance. I think your child is suffering from allergy. Best way is to avoid possible allergen like dust. Pollen etc. Put saline nasal drops frequently into each nostril whenever he has symptoms of cold.

Sir/madam, I have a baby girl 6 months, due to my job reasons am not given breast milk in 5th month. Now am going back to my baby so what can I do to increase production of milk for breastfeeding.

MD - Alternate Medicine, BHMS
Homeopath, Surat
Milk production increases on it own eventually. As you start feeding her and as her demands will increase, the body will start producing more milk on its own to fulfill your child's need.

She is 10 years old

General Physician,
Vitamin d deficiency historically has been defined as a blood level of 25hydroxyvitamind below 25nmol/l. There is scientific debate about the optimal vitamin d blood level. Current practice in the uk, as recommended by the british paediatric and adolescent bone group, is to continue to use that as the defined level of deficiency, and to define? insufficiency? as between 25 and 50nmol/l. Some laboratories and authorities use higher levels but this current practice is based on robust evidence of benefits to bone health when levels are more than 50nmol/l. Vitamin d deficiency can cause seizures and cardiomyopathy in infants, rickets and poor growth in children and muscle weakness at any age. Need to discuss more details, you are free to ask privately in ask privately option with, birth and development history and complaints which made you test for d levels. Mention your name and mail id with phone no. I am thinking of writing an article on vitamin d deficiency among other deficiency states and diseases. You can read them in health tips there is already an article in diseases category by me.

my son, he's 4 years complete, past 6 months both neck side some of the small lumps is there, I ask the pediatrician he said its a primary complex, but that time my son suffered fever.

MD Pediatrics
Pediatrician, Vadodara
You can go for investigations to rule out tuberculosis. Also the lympnodes might be enlarged due to local infection. A course of antibiotics if causes regression of size of lumps then tb is less likely. Also for primary complex (TB) the child must be having features of decreased appetite, weight loss, low grade fever, contact with person having TB or taking drug treatment for tuberculosis.

Hi my baby is 14 days old he is going for excretion every time I feed him with my milk he is also passing urine 10 to 15 times is it any problem please rectify my doubt.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Tumkur
Passing urine frequently tells you that he is getting good amount of milk. Passing stools soon after feeding is exaggerated gastrocolic reflex. It's normal as long as the consistency is semisolid and golden yellow in colour.

How do I know if my child has a growth disorder?

A child's growth pattern is an important part of determining normal growth. No child has a perfectly steady growth rate; children go through growth spurts and periods of slower growth. The best way to evaluate a child's growth pattern is to plot the child's height and weight on a growth chart. This can be completed by a doctor or a health care practitioner, at school, or even at home. The growth chart will show the child's growth over a period of time.

Any departure from a prior growth pattern appropriate for the child's genetic background may signal the appearance of a disease. Contact a doctor or healthcare practitioner if the child's growth or height is a concern. The doctor may suggest seeing a specialist paediatric Endocrinologist who can perform tests to determine if the child has a hormone deficiency.

My 2 months baby had a swelling on d eyebrow by birth it was seen now it slightly increased it is in 25pause size when v touch that swelling there is no pain for baby.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Ponda
It will slowly disappear by 5-6 years of age. Avoid trauma to that part. Seems like haemangioma (blood vessel abnormality) no medication is required unless vision is impaired.

My son is 8year old and suffering emurisis and adhd. And we don't want to follow the antideprassant medicine please guide and prescibe the solutions.

Pediatrician, Pune
Dont make him realise and make him feel bad for his eneuresis, it is ok that some children have a delayed control, try to strengthen the bladder sphincter during the day time, by holding the urine when he feels like urinating, no liquids after 7 pm, pass urine before going to bed at night, reward and encourage if he has dry nights, but let him feel that it is ok, if he passes urine at night, encouraging and positive feed back is far superior than negative attitude, help him as much as possible.
