All About Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is a cancerous tumor in a man’s prostate gland, a small gland that is responsible for producing the seminal fluid which transports and nourishes the sperm. It is a very common type of cancer among men. A few cases of prostate cancer tend to develop slowly while others may progress very fast.

Symptoms

In the initial stages, prostate cancer may not show any symptom. However, in the latter stages, there may be symptoms such as:

  1. Pain in the bones.

  2. Erectile dysfunction.

  3. Urination can get troublesome.

  4. Presence of blood in the semen.

  5. Pain and discomfort in the pelvic region.

Causes-

The exact causes of prostate cancer are not known. It starts to develop when certain cells in the prostate gland start to mutate. These mutations cause these cells to multiply at a very fast rate and thus, soon form tumors. Although the causes are not known, certain factors tend to aggravate this condition; them being:

  1. Color: According to certain medical reports, a darker skin may mean increased chances of suffering from prostate cancer.

  2. Age: The risk of developing prostate cancer tends to increase with age.

  3. Genetics and Family History: Faulty genes could be another cause of this condition. Also, having some member in the family who is diagnosed with this type of cancer only increases the risks of you suffering from them.

  4. Obesity: If you are obese, then you are more likely to develop prostate cancer.

Treatments-

The treatments for prostate cancer include:

  1. Radiation Therapy: In this procedure, high energy rays are used to target and destroy cancer cells. Usually X-rays or protons are used to treat the cancer cells.

  2. Hormone Therapy: Hormone therapy is a type of treatment wherein certain medications are administered to prevent your body from producing testosterone.

  3. Surgery: If the other treatment methods do not produce desired results, then a surgery is carried out for the removal of the prostate gland. In addition to the prostate gland, some adjoining lymph nodes and tissues are also removed.

  4. Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy is method of destroying cancer cells by injecting chemicals into the body. The medicines are injected into the veins in the arms.

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a specilized oncologist and ask a free question.

Actually it is for my grand mother who is 55 years old and she has a problem that blood falls with stool for 4 month. She has many dots in mouth. Then we get her to a md. Nd the first in the test it seems malina but in the endoscopy it seems nothing. What should we do in this situation.

MBBS, MS - General Surgery
General Surgeon, Bangalore
Mr. Lybrate-user, I think your grandmother may be having haemorhoids or piles, consultation with a surgeon can rule it out. If that turns out to be negative, she may require a colonoscopy to rule out bleeding from rectum & colon.

I feel my teacher as my mother, and when someone goes close to her, suddenly I get so much anger and I behave so rudely, and many times I thought to harm myself by cutting my hands or taking any other serious injury. Is this any mental disorder? What I have to do.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. This is a mental disorder called obsession or possessiveness. Don't worry there is treatment. You have to adjust your thought pattern. You can continue to count your teacher as your mother. But don't get aggressive on someone speaking to her. You need Rational Emotive Therapy. Take care.

Dear sir I am week. My weight is less
I eat so much food but from many year my weight is constant according to hight ...
Hi lybrate-userhere are 6 ways to gain weight healthily: 1. Eating 5 to 6 meals a day in order to gain weight, start eating 5-6 meals a day by breaking them into parts. Eating a lot at once may cause indigestion if the body fails to absorb all nutrients. Eat in small amounts, even if you are not hungry and there will be an increase in appetite from day to day. The aim should be to have a generously portioned breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as two to three snacks in between. 2. Start weight training if you build your muscles through weight training, it will convert the extra weight into lean body mass and also stimulate your appetite. The extra muscle increases the rate of metabolism. When you start exercising you will often experience extreme muscle soreness but it goes away in 3-5 days. 3. Load up on protein besides weight training, a protein-rich diet can help you gain mass. Eating a meal heavy in protein shortly after finishing exercise can be highly effective in adding extra pounds to your body. However, a diet focused only on lean protein is not helpful. It is important to make sure that your diet has plenty of fat in it. Eat foods rich in protein like cheese, meat, eggs, etc to gain weight in a healthy manner. 4. Workout your entire body a lot of people focus only on training the muscles on their arms, chest and shoulders and this is a grave error. Firstly, it will give you a disproportionate body; and it will make you prone to injuries. Therefore, it's important to work out the entire body for a complete and balanced look. 5. Drink your calories to reach the calorie requirement only by eating may be tough. Drinking milk, milkshakes or protein shakes with little or no sugar can be an effective way to load up on the calorie requirements. 6. Be patient and believe in yourself gaining weight quickly in a healthy manner is unrealistic. Every body type is different and it takes months to gain weight. Living healthy by eating the right diet will increase your strength. It is also important to keep following the routine even if you don't see any gains. Caution: junk food and fried foods must be avoided; although have a tendency to add more fat to your body but are very low in vitamins and minerals which are essentially required to keep you really fit. Related tip: the most powerful way to put on weight - snacking righ.

How to get a fairer skin and smooth skin, I m a boy pls tell the answer what I want to do?
Apple is a miracle fruit for the skin. The alpha hydroxy acids or AHA’s present in apples improves skin color and elasticity of the skin.Soak peeled apple slices in milk for 20 minutes and then blend to form a creamy paste.Place in the freezer for 10 minutes, and then mix a tsp of lemon juice, apply all over your face and neck.Rinse off after 15 minutes with cool water and massage an ice cube. The skin looks baby soft, smooth with a rosy white glow.Follow this for a week to get fair skin naturally. or All the natural ingredients (Tretinoin, Hydroquinone and Cortisone) inlcuded in Melamet have only one goal: to improve your skin tone. Tretinoin helps prevent and treat acne and wrinkles by peeling off dead skin cells. Hydroquinone is the skin lightener agent in this equation that improves the overall tone of your skin. Cortisone is an anti-allergy ingredient that reduces inflammation and/or itching.' How to Use: Use the Melamet Cream just before bedtime. Wash it off in the morning, and apply some sunscreen if you intend to go outdoors. Failure to do so will cause significant damage and even result in your skin turning black.

Hi lybrate-user, it may be postpartum depression. Please consider the following sings: inability to sleep or sleeping more than normal change in appetite extreme concern and worry about the baby or a lack of interest or feelings for the baby feeling unable to love the baby or your family anger toward the baby, your partner, or other family members anxiety or panic attacks fear of harming your baby; these thoughts may be obsessive, and you may be afraid to be left alone in the house with your baby. Irritability sadness or excessive crying difficulty concentrating or remembering feelings of doubt, guilt, helplessness, hopelessness, or restlessness lethargy or extreme fatigue loss of interest in hobbies or other usual activities mood swings marked by exaggerated highs and lows feeling emotionally numb. Its better to show her to a psychiatrist. Also, increase physical activity by introducing aerobic exercises, yoga, pilates or stretching regimens to your daily routine. Physical activity can help the body release mood-improving endorphins. Eat well. A nutritious diet, complete with fruits, vegetables, lean protein, low-fat dairy, and whole grains will help you feel better. If you are breastfeeding, eating well becomes even more crucial as your nutrients pass their way to your baby. Avoid high-sugar foods like soda, caffeine, and alcohol. All of these can aggravate postpartum depression by altering your mood in certain ways. For example, caffeine can make you anxious and alcohol is a depressant. All the best.

If you have h. Pylori infection for which I can prescribe a 14 day treatment plan which will eliminate it. Untreated infection causes ulcers in stomach and may finally lead to cancer.
