I am 68 years of age with normal health otherwise. Wt 65 Kgs Ht. 5'2" I have lumber pain due to" Cervical spondylosis with posterior bulge of C5-C6 disc indenting the thecal sac and nerve roots" How to go about ; and what is the remedy for sustaining the pain?

MBBS, MD, DNB, FIPM, FIPP
Pain Management Specialist, Chennai
Hello madam, the c5-c6 disc bulge that you have described in your mri usually causes neck pain which may radiate to your hands. Along with pain, you may also have numbness or tingling in your hands. Avoid lifting weights and jerky rides. Use a firm bed mattress with a medium sized pillow. Learn cervical stretch and strengthening exercises and start doing them. If pain does not subside you may consider a cervical epidural injection from a pain physician. Good luck.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic inflammatory joint disease which has a genetic predisposition. Since this is a genetically linked disease hence as of now there is no permanent cure for it, but new intravenous medications are available which help in disease control. Your son needs a very active lifestyle with intensive regular physical therapy, take adequate calcium and vitamin d supplementation you also need to be in touch of a rheumatologist as it needs a long term supervised care. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

My left hand little finger bone joint was broken and it was treated well for 2 days and I removed the bandage for 4 days as it caused allergy to my hand. What will be my chance of recovery even if it is treated from right now?

Erasmus Mundus Master in Adapted Physical Activity, MPT, BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Chennai
The conservative management would be to keep ice in that inflamed area. Apply ice for the pain to get subsided immediately. You can redo the bandage again so that the healing would be more quicker. You can add protein in the diet which will help you to have quicker healing.

Hello doctors I am 16 years old and iam having pain in my leg mu friend prescribed to take vitamin d & calcium tablets should I take it of yes then let me know one such medicine.

BHMS
Homeopath, Raebareli
No without knowing the calcium values in your body you should not take Calcium tablets. When leg pain occurs after strenuous physical activity, you can simply apply cold compresses. This will help reduce the pain by numbing the affected area and control swelling and inflammation. Wrap a few ice cubes (or a bag of frozen peas) in a thin towel. Apply this pack on the affected area for 10 to 15 minutes, while keeping the leg(s) elevated. Do this a few times a day. Note: Do not apply ice directly on the skin, as it may cause frostbite.

Hi my problem in my back bone (miner dislocation in l5) since last 12 years. Why I dont suffer from pain regularly?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned the word dislocation which is worrying for me as an orthopaedic surgeon because this is a term we se rarely. Anyway to understand your problem and give an opinion as to why you are not having pain is possible only if I can see your x rays or mri scans of spine. Also I think you are very young that is why you are not experiencing too much pain as of now, but let me reserve my opinion till the time I see your investigations. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.
