Hydration is the most important aspect in patients with diarrhoea and vomitting. Give him ors, zinc and probiotics along with ondansatron for vomitting. The dose is based on his weight. If there is persistent vomiting, reduced urine output, lethargy, not taking oral intake or excessive diarrhoea consult a pediatrician. Warm regards.

Pediatrician, Pune
Nebulizing at 14 years of age is not a right idea, he needs to be evaluated for his severity, by local pediatrician, rotacaps / inhalers may be advised, allergens need to be avoided

I would suggest that you continue feeding her at night and whenever she wants. She would stop feeding on your breast on her own as she grows up. Breastfeeding at night is very reassuring to babies that their mother is closeby and that they have her complete attention.

Uterine Fibroids - Surgical & Non Surgical Treatment!

Uterine Fibroids - Surgical & Non Surgical Treatment!

Uterine fibroids, also known as leiomyomata, are non-cancerous growths which develop in and around the uterus or the womb and form benign tumors in course of time. Though there are several types of uterine fibroids, they are all consistently similar in their genetic makeup. They are generally classified depending on their specific locations:

  • Myometrial or intramural fibroids
  • Submucosal fibroids
  • Subserosal fibroids
  • Pedunculated fibroids

Signs and symptoms

In most cases, uterine fibroids display little or no symptoms at all. Therefore many women are caught unawares and do not realize whether they have leiomyomata or not. When symptoms do show, however, they may include any one of the following:

1. Prolonged menstrual periods, usually for seven days or even longer
2. Bloating belly or pelvis
3. Intensive bleeding during periods
4. Pain during sexual intercourse
5. Constipation

Treatment

Since uterine fibroids do not cause any significant complications, they normally do not require much treatment. The condition, however, can be treated through either one of the following approaches:

1. Non-surgical approach

(1) Alert and careful inspection as well as watchful anticipation of the growth and development of uterine fibroids
(2) Birth control pills or oral contraceptives which help reduce heavy periods caused by uterine fibroids
(3) Pain relievers to help numb the pain
(4) Intrauterine device along with levonorgestrel to help reduce heavy periods
(5) Iron tablets are helpful in substituting the blood loss caused by heavy menstruation

2.Surgical approach

i) Myomectomy

ii) Hysterectomy

These two procedures can be performed using several techniques like:

  • Laparoscopy
  • Open abdominal surgery
  • Robot-assisted laparoscopy
  • Vaginal approach
  • Hysteroscope approach

iii) Uterine artery embolization (UAE)

Dear, your child is learning. He should be given training according to your cultural and society needs. At this age he needs appreciation and encouragement. Don't force him for anything. Just encourage him. Bless him and care him. Take care.

My daughter is suffering from chronic cold continuously for past 4 years. Tried every type of medication ie allopathy, homeopathy, ayurveda, but nothing worked. She is 11 years old and is now frustrated with this. Pl help.

BHMS, Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Medicine

Hello, please give her vit d 60, 000 stat every week for a month. In children calcium balance is important any discrepancy in calcium level leads to cold. We would start a low dose calcium (homoeopathic med) if complaint persist after a month.

My daughter is 13.5 years old she has very poor appetite. She does not eat anything in morning (says will vomit or having vomiting feeling ), basically we have seen its more of anxiety of going to school that she avoids eating .on weekends she does not complain of vomiting but no eating. Her weight gain and height gain last 5-10 years is below lowest curve. Worried of both, suggest anything for hunger and height.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), F.I.A.M.S. (Pediatrics)
Pediatrician, Muzaffarnagar
You have rightly said that it is all due to anxiety for going to school. It is easy to over come this problem by awaking her in the morning earlier by 15-20 minutes so that she can take her breakfast easily. There is no medicine which can change this habit. Increase frequency of her diet in stead of increasing quantity of diet which shall be helpful in gaining growth.

6 Ways To Help Your Baby Learn Speaking

6 Ways To Help Your Baby Learn Speaking

The role of parents in language development of children is a primary one. Basically, it will be a one way communication as babies will not respond, but that should not deter you from speaking to them. It has been shown that talking to children early on helps them to talk faster and learn more words. The number of words a child hears is directly proportional to the amount of vocabulary he/she will be able to master.

6 ways to help your baby learn speaking:

  1. Let them listen a lot: Children learn speaking by listening first. So more and more words they will listen, so do they will speak. Make sure your child comes in contact with children in the peer group and plays with them as with the help of their friends they can learn many words.
  2. Read a book: You should start reading to your child as early as possible. The type of book is not as important as you may use, various touch and feel books such as graphic novels. Initially, you may start with board books and then move on to picture books and finally to story books. It helps in increasing the child's vocabulary.
  3. Talk as much as you can: Part of a child's ears and brain that respond to sound are developed since birth, so even though talking to your baby may not make much sense, talking to them enhances their development of speech. The infant absorbs the words which facilitates speaking.
  4. Look for cues: If the child is interested in something such as a book or a toy, then engage with the child on that subject. Encourage him/her to ask questions and interact as much as possible. These interactions help in enhancing the child's language skills.
  5. Limit television: Using television to teach vocabulary to your child is not as effective as talking directly. The primary reason is that characters in television do not react to your child's cues. This does not allow the child interact, which results in reduced language learning.
  6. Treat ear infections early: It is important to treat ear infections early as this causes hearing problems which in turn delays language learning. Consulting a pediatrician to get treatment for ear infections of your child is advisable. You should see to it that the child is being administered medications at regular intervals.
