I am 25 years old having back pain what I do?

Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho)
Orthopedist,
I am 25 years old having back pain what I do?
Hi If you have localized back pain with - no neurological symptoms like numbness, paresthesia, weakness in limbs etc, my advice is: - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a physiotherapist and then at home. - avoid forward bending, lifting heavy weights etc - take an analgesic like diclofenac or something which suits your body for 5-7 days - take muscle relaxant for same time as analgesic to relieve muscle spasm - ice packs at the site of pain, muscle spasm - local analgesic spray can be used but no massage is required let me know how you are feeling. I will actually ask you to get x ray of involved region of spine ( ap & lateral) and send reports across to me so that I can advise further in a better manner. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance

Hi, good posture plays pivotal role to cure back and neck pain. If you really want to cure permanently then check out your bad posture first. Do not do bending by back and neck continuously while working or sitting. Secondly go for hot water fomentation for 15 minutes twice a day and apply volitra gel in small quantity after fomentation. If still pain persist go for best physiotherapy near to your location. Hope it helps you lot.

Hi, Both the conditions can be inter-related, before coming to any conclusion, please first of all describe your all the problem in details like - where the exact location of pain? Since how long you have been suffering? How much is the severity of the pain? Any other associated problem with it? When the pain gets aggravated and relieved? One of the very common cause of backache is bad posture! Maintain a right standing and sitting posture, keep your back always straight (even while sitting or standing), avoid carrying weight on back. Hold or carry weight divided equally in both the hands or shoulders (to avoid over straining on one particular hand or shoulder). Always select a chair with proper back support and hand-rest. (Excessive sitting or standing is to be avoided as well don’t carry much weight on shoulders). Apart from these, stress could be the major cause of pains! Exercise: Practice Shavasana or Corpse Pose as it looks like a dead body. If practiced correctly and with full efforts, can relax every body part, relaxing not only the body but also the mind: Spread the legs one to two feet apart, the toes are turned outwards, the heels facing each other, a comfortable distance apart. Bring the arms a little away from the body, palms turned upward. Relax the neck and allow it to turn to the side if it is more comfortable. Close the eyes and focus the attention on the body, breathing normally. Begin focusing each body part and relaxing it, then moving on. Keep the mind focused on relaxation, the breath should be normal. Relax the whole body. (The mind and body are deeply connected. If the mind is occupied by thoughts and worries then the shavasana will be unsuccessful. Therefore one has to acquire the stability of the mind along with the stability of the body.)

The pain in your neck/back is due to the spondylosis as you know. It's called axial back pain. The only remedy which isn't definitive in its own right is physiotherapy exercises (back and core strengthening exercises) along with hot /cold fomentation 3-4 times a day. Go for early morning walks in sunshine to maintain body levels of vitamin d, take a diet rich in calcium and vit d e. G eggs, milk, nonveg food if possible and fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid straining your back too much by bending forwards too much or lifting heavy weights. These measures would surely decrease the back pain if not completely resolve it. If the pain is associated with any tingling numbness or weakness in any of the limbs or you get any fever or weight loss, kindly consult an orthopaedician for appropriate work up. Hope this helps.

I am a 50 years old lady. I have a spinal cod pain & side pain is very boldly is last one years. For this cause I not walking, sitting & bending. Please give me a advice sir what should I do?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned spinal cord pain which I think is lower back pain, if that is what you want to convey. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.
