Hello with homoeopathy you can use glutaract drops (take internally 15 drops mor / eve). With this you can continue your eye drop prescribed by ophthalmologist. You can reduce dosage of eye drop. Homoeopathy medicine will stop further damage to optic nerve. For better management consult privately.

Hello. . Eye redness is most often due to swollen or dilated blood vessels. This makes the surface of the eye look red. There are many causes of a red eye or eyes like infection, allergy. Foreign body in eyes. Some are medical emergencies and some are a cause for concern, but not an emergency. Others are nothing to worry about. Consult your local eye specilist to see what is the cause.

Use the medication advised in a timely manner without missing any doses. Avoid consuming excess liquids. Stop smoking and consuming alcohol. Get your pressures checked regularly and also a field test has to be done periodically (once every 3-6 months depending upon stage of glaucoma)

Cornea Disorders: What to Do?

Cornea Cataract & Lasik
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Cornea Disorders: What to Do?

Common conditions affecting the cornea: Some of the common conditions that affect the cornea are:

  • Injuries: In case of a minor injury and scratch the cornea has the capability to heal on its own. But in case of deeper injuries there might be corneal scarring, leading to a haze in the cornea along with impaired vision. In case of deep injury you could experience pain in the eye, sensitivity, reduced vision, inflammation of the eye, headache, vomiting and nausea.
  • Allergies: The common allergies that affect the eye are related to pollen, especially in the warm and dry weather. Symptoms are burning sensation, redness of the eye, itching, and watery discharge. These symptoms can be reduced by antihistamine decongestant eye drops. Rain and cold weather also improve the symptoms.
  • Keratitis: This is the inflammation of the cornea. Though infection is a common cause of keratitis, non-infectious keratitis is due to minor injuries and wearing the contact lenses for too long. Infectious keratitis is mainly due to parasites, fungi, viruses and bacteria. These can be treated with antibacterial eye drops.
  • Dry Eye: This is a condition where the eye produces less tears and is unable to keep the surface of the eye lubricated. The symptoms of this are scratchy feeling due to the dryness of the eye, along with a burning and stinging sensation of the eye.

Common diseases affecting the cornea: Some common diseases affecting the cornea are:

  • Herpes Zoster: This is basically the reactivation of the varicella zoster virus. This virus also causes chickenpox and if you have had chicken pox then the virus can live in the nerve cells and become activated later in life. The virus might travel through the nerves to the cornea, affecting the cornea.
  • Iridocorneal endothelial syndrome: This is more common in women aged 30-50 years. It has three features: glaucoma, swelling of the cornea, and changes of the iris.
  • Pterygium: This is the pinkish, triangular tissue growth, which occurs on the cornea. This might grow slowly throughout life. This is commonly seen in sunny weather in adults aged between 20-40 years.

Treatment of the corneal disorders:

  • Laser surgery: Phototherapeutic keratectomy is a surgical technique. In this UV light is used to restore and reshape the cornea. This is used to treat corneal dystrophies and recurrent erosions.
  • Anterior lamellar keratoplasty and endothelial lamellar keratoplasty: This procedure removes the damaged or diseased endothelial tissue which is then replaced by the healthy tissue from a donor.
  • Corneal Transplant Surgery: This removes the damaged part of the cornea and then it is replaced by the healthy tissue through a donor.
  • Artificial Cornea: Keratoprosthesis is usually known as the artificial cornea. This is an option for people who have not had a successful tissue implant.

Lasik is a simple laser procedure which changes the shape of the cornea so that the light rays fall on the retina properly. It is a painless procedure. It is a day care procedure does not require any injections, does not require admission, you can simply resume your duties in 2 days. Cost varies from centre to centre. Side effects are usually limited to dryness of eyes for few months. We can do lasik anytime after age of 18 years. You need to undergo proper prelasik checkup to decide whether lasik is safe for you or not.

I am having frequent eye styes in both eyes every month also having eye allergy from 10 years. Using antibiotic to cure it. What is the permanent solution for it.

Phaco Development Program, Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology, DNB Ophtalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Mysore
1. Antibiotic cannot cure allergy. You will need to use some anti-allergic drug like Olapatadine (like Pataday once daily in morning or IF2 twice a day) 2. Frequent rubbing of eyes can cause recurrent stye in both eyes. If there is any other lid pathology also this can happen. Use good anti-allergic drugs, a good lubricating drop (like Refresh tears 3-4 times/day). Avoid rubbing your eyes. If you have irritation wash with cold water or place a cube of ice over your closed eyes lightly for half a minute. Also consider taking some omega 3 fatty acid supplementation (like seven seas tablet once daily)

Dear lybrate-user, very sad! your uncle beating aunt violently, it is very bad, he might be having misunderstanding with your aunt, you haven't mentioned why he is showing his violent nature towards your aunt. Any how his sadistic actions indicating that he is facing psychological problems either your uncle is not happy with your aunt, or they have conflicts. As you are worried about aunt inform your parents amiable manner so as elders they can find solution to their problems coming to you, you have shifted to your home it is good, otherwise facing these situations in this age may hamper your studies, career and future. To overcome from this situation you speak to your parents and elders to find the solution of their problem by sitting together solve the problem with discussion you just relax and try to forget the what was happened try to shift your self in making your self busy in your studies and career. Practice meditation regularly meet your positive friends, have good time with them read positive, motivational books after coming out from the situation concentrate on your career/ studies all the best!
