How Safe is Laser Tattoo Removal, Really?

MBBS, DNB (Dermatology)
Dermatologist, Mumbai
How Safe is Laser Tattoo Removal, Really?

The permanency of tattoos or being inked has reduced somewhat after the widespread use of laser tattoo removal. It has become a common trend among people to take off the ink which once was put in to be a permanent part of their existence. Although the success rate of the tattoo removal is quite high, there are certain inherent risks of undergoing a laser tattoo removal procedure.

Let's take a look at some of the risks:

  • Risk of infection: The process of tattoo removal may pose a risk of infection like any other procedure performed on the human body. However, infections occur in rare cases and only if proper method is not followed or the patient doesn't adhere to post-procedural prohibitions.
  • Chances of a scar: Although the colors within the tattoo may be removed, the outline of the tattoo may stay depending on how deep the punctures on the skin were, where the tattoo was put into place. This may also happen due to the type of paint used as it may also result in a permanent pigment removal in the localized area of the tattoo on the skin.
  • Hypopigmentation and Hyperpigmentation: After the removal of the tattoo, the skin and the body may react in a certain manner within certain individuals and thus result in problems with skin pigmentation. In certain cases, the color of the skin in the affected area may become paler than the rest of the surrounding skin which is known as hypopigmentation. In others, it may even become darker which is known as hyperpigmentation.
  • Side effects: If the patient already has certain pre-existing conditions then the procedure may have certain side effects. One example of this is a delay in the healing process in case the patient has diabetes.

However, laser tattoo removal has been improving over the past few years as a procedure and has come to a point where it is very safe. What might vary from patient to patient is the effectiveness of the removal of the colors within the tattoo, depending on the types of colors that were used.

Hi, There is an old-age saying - “Be happy and make others happy!” Follow this funda in your life and you will see the difference! Management: Include healthy, nutritious food, doing daily yoga or some kind of exercises. All these automatically reflects glow on your face. Yes, the colour which is inherited from your parents/ ancestors, cannot be changed, but you can try to get glow on your face! Daily Regime: Apart from these, you do follow CTMP, i.e. Cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally sunscreen with SPF-30 – a thick layer of Bakson's Suncare cream may be, 20-30 minutes before going out daily and repeat it's application after every 3-4 hrs.) after washing your face daily; use the products as per your skin type. This will change the skin texture and skin tone. In case you do have tanning, apply honey with a dash of lime on your face. Eat right and healthy that too on time, relieve your stress/ tensions, sleep well, stop smoking, as this restricts blood flow to your face and leaves you with a greyish complexion. Lead a healthy lifestyle! Apart from this, avoid anger, anxiety, fear which increases stress hormone in the body and subsequently makes your complexion darker! (Hormonal imbalances also plays a major role). If the dull and dark skin tone is due to any underlying ailment or diseases, need to look into the matter. Diet: -Increase your Vitamin C intake (lemon, orange, gooseberry, etc.Fruits/juices, strawberries, sweet peppers, tomatoes, can notaloupe, and green peas). - Eat more Vitamin A (nonfat milk, oysters, and egg yolks, carrots, watermelon, papaya, tomatoes, or other dark colored produce) . If you feel your skin is weak or not tight enough, that usually suggests a lack of Vitamin A. Medicine: Use homoeopathic cream - Medicynth's Whitch Hazel or Bakson’s Fairness cream daily at night. Home remedies: Apply fresh-squeezed lemon juice to your entire face and neck. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. After this, rub cucumber slices on your skin to soften and moisturize it. Do this 2-3 times a day. Another option is squeeze the juice of one-half lemon and mix one to two tablespoons of raw honey in it. Apply it on your face, leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse it off. Make a paste of 'Kasturi Manjal' (wild turmeric) with rose petals, saffron and raw milk which is very effective.

What should I do to cure my wrinkles.
At the age of 20, under my eyes it looks horrible. Suggest something please!
Hello, Everyone wants to age gracefully! It is that phase of life when we start losing internal as well as external health and strength of the tissues and cells. If we want, we can delay this process of aging which is in our hands! Which is achieved by following few tips: 1.Avoid the sun. Apply a good sunscreen with SPF-30 and apply a good moisturizer before application of sunscreen. 2.Don't smoke. Cigarette smoke ages skin -- mostly by releasing an enzyme that breaks down collagen and elastin, important components of the skin. 3.Get adequate sleep. When you don't get enough sleep, the body produces excess Stress Hormones, a hormone that breaks down skin cells. Get enough rest and you'll produce more Happy Hormones, which helps skin remain thick, more elastic and less likely to wrinkle. 4.Sleep on your back. Sleeping on your side increases wrinkles on cheeks and chin, while sleeping face-down gives you a furrowed brow. 5.Wear sunglasses. It will protect skin around the eyes from sun damage. 6.Eat more soy. The soy has properties which may help protect or heal some of the sun's photoaging damage. Soy-based supplement (other ingredients included fish protein and extracts from white tea, grapeseed, and tomato, as well as several vitamins) improves skin's structure and firmness. 7.Eat more fruits and vegetables. They contains antioxidant compounds which fights damage caused by free radicals (unstable molecules that can damage cells), which in turn helps skin look younger and more radiant, and protects against some effects of photoaging. 8.Be Happy. Last but not the least, if you are genuinely happy that would reduce the levels of stress hormones in your body which is responsible for tissue damage! Use Bakson’s Papaya Pack and Anti-Wrinkle cream regularly.

There are many dark spot removal creams in the market. No marks is a good cream. Also take vitamin c and protect yourself against sun in future by using sun screen regularly/covering your skin outdoors/ avoiding going out in afternoon.

I have ance in my face how will I get rid of this n I have marks on my face what should I do.
These are the methods to treat fastly acne - • Imbalance in hormone level causes excessive sebum production and causes acne. So do not take stress and do exercise daily such as running, jogging and long breathing exercises. • Do YOGASANA daily. Especially do SINHASANA & SARVANGASANA daily. • Use oil free face wash and drink 7 -8 glass of water daily. • Take Vitamin-A capsule of 25, 000 I. U. Daily for atleast 28 days only under the guidance of a doctor. • Do not touch your pimple because your finger transfer bacteria to it and make it worse. If you touch it then clean your face with water. • Take cucumber and papaya pulp. Mix it well and add 1 tablespoon Turmeric. Make a paste and apply it on face and leave it for 15 minutes. • Steam your face to open the pores, which in turn clear the skin. Steam your face for a couple of minutes. • Take 2 teaspoon of RAKTASHODAK SYRUP of BAIDYANATH company once a day.

6 Mistakes in Self-Treating Acne

MD - Dermatology, MBBS
Dermatologist, Delhi
6 Mistakes in Self-Treating Acne

6 Mistakes in Self-Treating Acne

Acne is a very common problem that affects people, mostly teenagers worldwide. The problem of acne can be extremely annoying, making most of the people to opt for self medication. However, it is advisable to consult a dermatologist to avoid unwanted complications. The following common but serious mistakes should be avoided while self-treating acne:

1. Fight acne the dermatologist way: During adolescence, hormonal imbalance is one of the major factors resulting in acne. However, factors like prolonged illness, pollution, dermatological problems cannot be sidelined either. It should be noted that acne is an inflammation which needs proper investigation. A dermatologist should be consulted at the very onset. Use of any medicated lotions or creams without proper recommendation can aggravate the problem.

2. The lesser the better: Using too many products at a time will do you more harm than good. Use one product at a time. If you think a product can magically treat your acne in a day, then you are in for some disappointment. Optimism is good, but being realistic is better. Not all products show positive results in a day. One needs to have patience. Use the product diligently for a week before trying out a new product.

3. Complete what you started: It is a crime to stop any medications mid way. Complete the full course of the medication, even if your acne is fully treated.

4. Popping away to ugly spots and scars: Popping or picking only worsens the inflammation and acne. It will leave your face with some really ugly spots. When the acne head turns white, do not try to squeeze it out. Show some resilience. It is a very common mistake that should be strictly avoided.

5. Exfoliants should be chosen carefully. Understand your skin type well. Micro-beads-enriched exfoliants are the best to use. Avoid scrubbing or over washing the face. Always use a sunscreen before stepping out in the sun. If you are into make-ups, remove them before retiring to bed. Use make-ups that suit your skin type. Minimal application of make-up is advisable in case of acne.

6. Many well wishers might suggest innumerable acne treatments. Listen to all, but choose what you feel and know is the best.

A flawless and acne-free face is very much achievable.

Cosmetic surgery is a option. Take a thin slice of lemon, sprinkle a bit of sugar on top and rub it on your lips. It will exfoliate dead cells so new, fresh skin can appear. Use this remedy daily for a few weeks.
