My eye power is -2 now how can I reduce it with in one moth what food and exercise I will do.

Phaco Development Program, Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology, DNB Ophtalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Mysore
No diet or exercise can reduce your power normally. You will have to wear glasses / contact lenses or you will have to undergo some form of refractive surgery like lasik anyone who says that it can be corrected with diet/exercise is misleading you.

I am 21 year old I have eye problem and I want to remove my glasses eye vision is (-1,-1) I am not interested to wear glass due to this my hair fall and thicker.

DOMS, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Hello, well lybrate-user glasses are a remedy to your poor eyesight so to detest them is not a very good idea. There is no medications available which can remove glasses. Ok if you do not want to wear glasses, you can go for contact lenses, but with all proper precautions and hygiene. As far as surgical removal of spectacles is concerned, you can opt for lasik if your number is stable for last 6 months. Take a balanced diet with more green vegetables and fruits and if convenient a multivitamin supplement. Take care.

I am suffering from eye infection, this has been from last two months, I even consulted a doctor he gave some medicine, eye drops, ointment etc. But infection still resides. When I am not using this stuff infection comes back.

DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Varanasi
Lybrate-user r you contact lens user? if not then it might be some allergy inspite of infection. You can use moxicip kt eye drop one drop 4 times a day. If no improvement then milder steroid has to be added but after consulting an ophthalmologist.

I did LASIK operation 1 month ago but now I am working on computer daily so please suggest some precaution.

FPRS, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Pune
Yes dryness occurs after lasik surgery more in patients using computers for longer time. Apart from using lubricating eye drops which must have have been given to you by your lasik surgeon, follow these instructions: take frequent breaks while you are working every 20-25 mins take break to look away from screen blink more frequently' level of screen should be below the level of eyes.

Dr. I am suffering from conjunctivitis from last one day there is little pain in my head and some itching in my right side eye please recommend medicine to get out of this problem soon.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Hello lybrate-user. Conjunctivitis may occur due to various causes. Let me enumerate them in brief: (1) allergy (2) bacterial infection (3) viral infection (4) fungal infection (5) systemic conditions based on the cause for your conjunctivitis, it would be a better idea to prescribe you treatment. Still, as a broad spectrum, use the following: (a) tobramycin eye drops 4 times in a day. (b) lubricant eye drops every 2 hours. (c) keep washing your eyes thoroughly. Maintain eye hygiene.

Sir I have gone through lasik laser. Can I start gym now. 4 days has been to lasik. So is this ok to start heavy exercise?

FPRS, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Pune
Brisk walk and treadmill can be started immediately but heavy exercises after 10-15 days. Its not that exercises are going to harm. But being surrounded by many people in gym in a closed ac room can make you susceptible for infection.

Care of eyes- continuously reading small print without proper light should be avoided. Smart phone may cause strain. Don't expose your eyes to extreme sunny weather of cold windy weather. Don't be closer to people with eye infections as you may contact the infection. Get your eyes tested for any vision problem. Homoeopathy has effective treatment for your problem without adverse effects. Take belldonna 200 ---once daily in the morning for 5 days.

Include the following for getting better vision: vitamins a, c, e, and minerals like copper and zinc are essential to eyesight. Get the antioxidants from dark leafy greens, egg yolks, yellow peppers, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Include garlic and onions. Blueberries, grapes as they have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help improve your vision. Dha is a fatty acid found in coldwater fish like salmon, sardines and mackerel. Exercises for strengthening eye muscles: -begin by partially closing your eyes; the lids should only be halfway shut. After holding for 10-15 seconds, close your eyes very slowly. Take a few deep breaths to increase oxygen in the blood. -warm your eyes. Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times. -hold a pen at arm's length. Focus your gaze on the tip of the pen. Bring the pen closer to your nose at a slow and steady pace. Repeat this exercise 5-10 times. -concentrate your vision on the tip of your nose. Then shift your gaze to an object further away, either at arm's length or 20 feet away. Then shift your eyes back to the tip of your nose. Repeat this exercise 10 times. -sit in a relaxed but upright position. Begin by look to the left-most position (without moving your head) and hold to stretch your eye muscles. Hold for 5 counts. Blink and return your gaze back to look straight in front of you. Then look to the right-most position with your gaze and hold for 5 counts. Repeat 3 times, blinking between each hold. Then, repeat this exercise looking up and then down. Do not forget about blinking. -sit in a relaxed but upright position. Look up and to your right for 5 seconds. Return your gaze to center. Look up to and to your left for 5 seconds. Return your gaze to center. Look down and to your right for 5 seconds. Return your gaze to center. Look down and to your left for 5 seconds. -one helpful way to do this is to imagine that you are looking at the number 12 on a clock. Then, follow the numbers around the clock with your eyes. Repeat going the other way around the clock. -massage your temples. Using your thumb knuckles, massage your temples in small circles, 20 times in one direction and 20 in the other. Repeat the same actions above the midpoint of the eyebrows at the forehead, then below the eyes on both sides of the bridge of the nose. -take a mini-nap. Put your head back, close your eyes, and relax for 3 minutes. Insufficient sleep may weaken your vision, so shoot for 8 hours of sound sleep a night. Rest your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids. Medication: take homoeopathic medicine which will help you in preventing first and then reducing the power of your eyes (if the eye power is less). Take physostigma 6/ thrice daily for 1 month and instill euphrasia eye drops twice a day. Thereafter, revert back for further guidance. *******you can also opt for laser lasik surgery in case it is urgent and required in defence services, consult an opthalmologist******

I have a eye strain from couple of years. May b I have strabismus (crossed eyes) but I'm not sure about it. In case if I have can it b cured now. My age is 19. Thanks.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Weak eyesight has multiple factors associated with it. To enumerate a few: (1) refractive error- change of the power of glasses is the commonest cause of weak eyesight. In fact, if you have not used glasses previously, it might be possible that you might need to use them now. (2) age related changes in the lens of the eye-this is generally known as cataract. This is present in varying proportions in a majority of population above 55 years. This means that some degree of cataract is usually found in the age group over 55 years. (3) retina problem-different degenerations of the retina usually lead to weakening of the eyesight. The degeneration may be caused due to progressive age. It may also occur due to a high minus number of the eye (myopia). (4) cornea related problem- cornea is the anterior (front) part of the eye. Certain issues with the cornea may cause weakening of the eyesight. Thus, it would be a good idea to consult an eye specialist in person and get your eyes evaluated for the cause of weakening eyesight. Hope my suggestions help. Take care.

Blurred vision cause by intermediate uvietis can be clear after taking steroid medicine and drop? Please say.

MD - Ophthalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist,
Intermediate uveitis clears after taking steroid drops. But these steroid drops should be used cautiously and only on prescription of a doctor because they have many side effects and also they should be tapered slowly.
