I am suffering from sciatica from last 20 to 25 days. The pain goes with medicines like combiflam but it still comes again in early morning.

MD - Psychiatry, MBBS

Long term combiflam use may lead to peptic ulcer and kidney damage. Pregabalin/gabapentin/nortriptyline is a better option which act on pain pathways. Discuss these issue with your doctor.

What Causes Sudden CARDIAC DEATH?

Sr. Fellowship in Electrophysiology & Pacing, M.R.C.P.(U.K.), DM - Cardiology, MD - General Medicine, MBBS
Cardiologist, Delhi
What Causes Sudden CARDIAC DEATH?

Sudden cardiac death occurs when your heart stops functioning unexpectedly and suddenly. When this happens if you experience sudden cardiac arrest and blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs. Sudden cardiac arrest usually results in death if it is not treated within minutes.

Occurring during a heart attack, the sudden cardiac arrest should not be mistaken for a heart attack. The immediate cause of sudden cardiac arrest is usually an abnormality in your heart rhythm, which is the result of a problem with your heart's electrical system. Your heart has its own electrical stimulator, which is a specialized group of cells called the sinus node located in the upper right chamber of your heart. The sinus node generates electrical impulses that flow in an orderly manner through your heart to synchronize heart rate and coordinate the pumping of blood from your heart to rest of your body.

If something goes wrong with the flow of these electric impulses through your heart, a condition known as arrhythmia occurs, causing your heart to beat too fast or too slow or in an irregular manner. Often these interruptions in rhythm are momentary and harmless. But if it is severe it can lead to a sudden stop in heart function.

Ventricular fibrillation is the most common life threatening arrhythmia which is the uncontrolled twitching or quivering of muscle fibers. It must be treated immediately to save a person's life. It can be treated by delivering a quick electric shock through the chest.

Risk Factors:

There are many risk factors that increase the risk of sudden cardiac death including the history of previous heart attacks, coronary artery disease, smoking, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity and diabetes.

Top Vata Balancing Foods for Rainy Season

Top Vata Balancing Foods for Rainy Season

According to Ayurveda, Vata controls the movement of the mind and the body. It governs the blood flow and the elimination of waste, breathing and the movement of thoughts in a person. Vata is therefore considered the leader of three Ayurvedic principles of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. In order to keep the mind and body in order, it is essential to have a Vata specific diet that will help in balancing Vata to the optimum level.

Vata takes care of the bodily senses, creative thinking, reasoning and movement of thought. It helps in the movement of food through the digestive tract. Vata is known to take care in eliminating waste, sexual functions and the menstrual cycle. The blood flow, heart rhythm, perspiration and the sense of touch is due to the right Vata that makes the body function the right way.

When the Vata is out of balance in the body, it can become restless and the person would experience difficulty in breathing. Dry coughs, earaches and general fatigue can be experienced often. The digestion gets affected leading to slow or rapid digestion, gas, intestinal cramps and weak tissues. Dry or rough skin, nervousness, poor blood flow and excessive stress are symptoms for a poor Vata.

If the Vata is optimal in a person, it leads to an energetic and creative mind. When the Vata is in a balanced state, then the person is generally lively, enthusiastic and with a lean body. In case Vata becomes predominant in a body, people would experience sudden bouts of fatigue. When the Vata is imbalanced then it manifests in the body as weight loss leading to other symptoms like constipation, hypertension and digestive problems.

In order to balance Vata, it is important to avoid cold foods and take only warm or hot foods that are cooked well and mushy in texture. In a Vata pacifying diet, it is important to eat sufficient quantity of food that helps in digestion. All diary products are good for pacifying Vata. For instance, boil milk before drinking and never drink milk after a heavy meal. All sweets eaten in moderation are good to balance Vata. It is good to eat root vegetables in the rainy season. Avoid eating raw vegetables and if you must have raw vegetables it should be eaten at mid-day when digestive strength is at its best.

While most fruits are good, it is important to eat sweet, sour or heavy fruits like oranges, bananas, avocados, grapes cherries and papaya. It is good to avoid fruits like apples, pears and dry fruits. All nuts are good. Vegetables should always be cooked and never taken raw. Avoiding sprouts and cabbage is good for a Vata specific diet. Legumes like red lentils, moong dal and soy can be taken if they are well cooked and spiced. These are easier to digest than other varieties of lentils. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda.

Doctor please help me if the foreskin of the pennie is not back or open is it normal pennie or should I need any treatment I am 26 years old and I am affried of this.

BHMS
Homeopath,
Dear lybrate user, you may be suffering from a clinical condition called phimosis. The most conventional method to get rid of it is surgery. However, if you are unwilling to undergo surgery then you can try the following process at home. 1) buy any local anaesthetic gel (e. G. Lidocaine, lignocaine, xylocaine) from allopathic retail shop. 2) apply a little amount of that anaesthetic gel at the lower part of the prepuce of penis where the foreskin remains attached. 3) after application of the gel, retract the foreskin backwards as far as you can. Due to the anaesthetic property of the gel you will be able to retract the foreskin backwards to some extent more than you can do in normal condition. 4) release the foreskin when you feel pain 5) again repeat the same process. Do it continuously for at least 30 minutes in a day. Within a month you will feel that your foreskin has become loose.

I am 20 years old. I masturbated a lot for the last 2 years. Now I am able to see it's ill effects like small size, not able to last long, curve when erect etc. I am willing to stop it. My concern is how to get rid of the above problems? And what to do from now on so that I have no problem in my future life after 5-6 years. I have no one to share this problem with. Hello lybrate-user, Thanks to share your experience linked with excessive masturbation, youth must learn some thing from these. Yes masturbation if done in excess is not good for both penile health general stamina. However you can still recover the tissue damage of Penis and can regain it's size and even can make it straight with the consumption of aphrodisiacs and by doing masturbation in a correct way that too under controlled frequency and pattern.

I am suffering from throat pain. I have consulted the doctor. But he said that I have a tonsil so should remove through operation. Any other treatment for this?

DNB (ENT), MBBS
ENT Specialist, Mumbai
You need to do warm salt water gargles daily-preferably morning and night. Also avoid cold and sour food items. If tonsils are enlarged and causing problem in swallowing or breathing or causing recurrent sore throat (6-7 episodes per year), surgery (tonsillectomy) will be a better option instead of repeated medical treatment with antibiotics etc.

I went wash room yesterday then I see toilet coming blood then after 2 minutes its stops .is serious probably or not?

MD - Ayurveda, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), Diploma in Yog and Ayurveda
Ayurveda, Navi Mumbai
Blood in toilet (stool) is due to piles or fissure. It should be checked and then diagnosed, but no need to worry as its very easy to treat. Piles, also known as haemorrhoids, are swollen veins and muscle around your anus or in your anal canal. Your anal canal is a short, muscular tube with blood vessels that connects your rectum (back passage) with your anus. Piles can develop when this tissue becomes swollen, possibly as a result of straining on the toilet. Sometimes, piles can be painful and bleed if they become damaged. Avoid spicy food, oily food, fast/junk food, nonveg diet for few weeks. Have enough liquids in your routine schedule (3 to 4 litres a day) Take these medication for relieving pain and blood loss if any, consult us as soon as possible for any treatment queries and further guidelines. Hope this answers your question. 1) Arshakuthar vati 500 mg twice day 2) kankayan vati 500 mg twice day 3) Abhayarishta 20 ml after meals with water twice day Feel free to consult privately for any queries or treatment guidelines. Thank you.
