How to get a fresh teeth after cleaning them from doctor. Please tell me the best pest and brush and more.
Thanks for your query. After getting the teeth cleaned, you can maintain the teeth in a good condition by brushing your teeth twice daily and rinse your mouth soon after eating anything. You can use any tooth paste like colgate, pepsodent etc. But technique is important. You can use medium bristle tooth brush. Take care.

Tooth Removal - Really Required?

BDS

Ask Free Question
Teeth are one of the most precious parts of the human body. By playing a significant functional and structural role in aesthetics, facial appearance, and food habits, digestion and chewing, all efforts at maintaining them should be undertaken. As we all know, we have two sets of teeth, primary or deciduous and the permanent set. Let us discuss tooth removal in these two sets separately.

Primary Teeth
In the primary teeth, the main indication would be dental decay. If the tooth is severely damaged beyond repair with fillings, then removal could be an option, with two things considered. The primary successor will erupt within the next 6 months; if not, a space maintainer would be put in place.

Another reason would be if the tooth is beyond its lifecycle and is blocking the eruption of the successor, then it requires removal.

The permanent teeth, however, are a set that are meant to last for a lifetime and removal should be considered only as a last resort. With advances in dental treatment methods, gone are the days when removal would be an option for severe decay.

Some of the absolute indications for removal would be:

1. Wisdom teeth: if it is erupting in abnormal position (flattened or crooked), then removing them to avoid infection and impingement on other teeth needs to be considered. Wisdom teeth infection is one of the most common causes requiring tooth removal.

2. Recurrent infections: If a tooth has been root canal treated, but continues to have ongoing chronic infection, it could be a case for removal.

3. Malformed or supernumerary teeth: These may also block eruption of other teeth into the mouth.

4. Orthodontic treatment: In cases where the jaw size is really not sufficient to realign the mal-positioned or crooked teeth, the first premolar is often sacrificed, and this space is used to align the other teeth.

5. Injuries: In case of accidents or injuries with jaw fractures, teeth in the line of fracture may need to be removed.

6. Preparation for dentures: In cases of severe periodontal disease, where the mobility of the teeth is high and complete dentures are being considered as an option, teeth removal may be planned. Also, if there are teeth which are in the line of fixed partial dentures, again removal might be planned

7. Radiation therapy: For head and neck cancer patients, if there are teeth in the line of radiation, then removal might be planned.

Unlike in the earlier years, the absolute indications for removing tooth have changed. A thorough examination, both oral and radiological, should be done before zeroing on extraction.

First Aid For Common Tooth Injuries

Ask Free Question
A chipped or knocked out tooth can be a very painful condition. Tooth injuries are most often caused during a sports activity or when you take a nasty fall. And such accidents can hamper your general well-being, your ability to enjoy food, your appearance and your precious smile.

Different types of tooth injuries:

A minor chip: a minor tooth fracture usually involves chipping of the enamel only
A major chip: a deeper fracture can involve chipping of both the enamel and the dentin of a tooth
A serious fracture that exposes the nerve and blood vessels in the centre of the teeth
A fully displaced teeth: here the tooth is forced upward, downward or to the side
A knocked off teeth: one that lands in your hand or shatters in the ground after impact
Trauma injuries: a more serious accident that involves head, neck and facial trauma
Wear and tear: cavities or chewing and biting on hard objects like pencils, ice cubes, or hard chocolates can also lead to tooth injury
Fighting the fight: when'i'll break your teeth' ceases to be an empty threat

How are tooth fractures treated?

Treatment depends on the extent of your fractures. A knocked out teeth can be re-implanted in many cases. A permanent tooth that is re-implanted within 30 minutes has the highest chance of success. Here's what you can do to save your tooth:

Collect your broken tooth: carefully collect the tooth fragments to not cause any additional damage which may prevent re-implantation. Avoid touching the root part of the tooth. Wash it gently in lukewarm water and keep it in a small bowl of milk. Avoid scrubbing or scraping to remove dirt.
Reinsert your teeth if possible: once you rinse your teeth, try to reinsert your teeth in the cavity. This may be a painful exercise, so proceed only if you think you can bear through it. You can store it between your cheek and gum to prevent drying or in a bowl of whole milk.
Take care of yourself: if there is bleeding, give your mouth a good rinse to clear off the blood that is blocking the view. Identify the source of bleeding and press in with a sterile gauze or cloth.
Give yourself a treat: this is a great way to get your mind off the pain and works wonders for children. Treat yourself with an ice lolly/ frozen pop to ease out the pain. If there is any cut on your gums or lips, another equally tasty home remedy is to cover it with sugar which will temporarily stop the bleeding and the sweetness will help you to forget the pain for the time being.
Go to a dentist: even if it is a minor chip, it is always advisable to see a dentist, as the cut may be sharp and can eventually end up hurting your tongue.

Your teeth need to last your lifetime, so take good care of them, especially when faced with an injury.

My teeth are becoming yellow these days. Severely. So how come I can solve the problem. Which paste I have to prescribe.
Cause of discoloration ? Smoking, coffee, tea, drugs, aging, staining food (wine, blueberry, etc) genetics. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning along with whitening (bleaching) procedures and / or artificial enamel filling and / or capping. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Use Snowdent tooth paste for whitening until then. Apply SNOWDENT paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min .Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results. DENTAL TIPS: - Visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

My baby is two months old. Her tongue and inside gums has become white. She is refusing to take milk. Please advise.
White deposit in mouth is usually fungal infection. Apply or just pour 2 to 3 drops of candid mouth paint over the tounge 4 to 5 times in a day. After response, it may be continued 3 times in a day for 1 to 2 monts. Do not scrap or scratch white deposit. If no response in 3 to 4 days, consult pediateician. In case, if she is refusing feed which I suppose she is not able to suckle instead of refusing, give expressed breast milk with spoon for proper nutrition. If baby is not able to swallow, consult immiditely. Exclussive breast milk is strongly advisible up to 6 monts of age.

If the tooth breaks, have the tooth contoured. Fill the crack in. Place a crown on your tooth. If the tooth has been badly damaged and the nerve or pulp is exposed, the dentist may have to perform a root canal to save the tooth. If the tooth has been severely damaged, it may have to be extracted.

Pain in teeth will not subside with any of the tooth paste. Pain killer and antibiotic can give you temporary relief but pain will re-occur once you stop the medications. I suggest you to get a check up done by the dentist. However you can use'sensodent-kf' tooth paste, simply apply on your painful teeth with your finger for 1min. As it is medicated do not use it more than a month.

Does bone grafting or guided tissue regeneration procedures need to undergo dental surgery

Does bone grafting or guided tissue regeneration procedures need to undergo dental surgery
Not all dental procedures require guided tissue regeneration (gtr). It is only indicated when we need to grow bone or any other tissue if there is any defect present. Generally this is done in periodontal flap procedure. Guided bone regeneration is generally attempted when you have something called as" angular defect" or a" vertical defect" in the bone.
