Smell coming from my mouth, what should I do?

LCPS, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
General Physician,
Usual cause is unclean mouth and/or infection of tooth. Clean mouth with any toothpaste and brush after eating. And see a dentist, if that doesn't work.

Hello. I am having a problem of vomiting. I used to vomits everyday in the morning while brushing my teeth. I don't know why. Please help me as soon as possible. Thank you.

Hello. I am having a problem of vomiting.
I used to vomits everyday in the morning while brushing my teeth. I don't k...
The vomit sensation you are talking about is known as Gag Reflex. It is a protective mechanism of the human body to avoid the entrance of any unwanted material down the throat. In your case, you are experiencing the reflex while brushing, that means your brushing pattern might be wrong. You are taking your brush to much deeper areas than required. Also, you might not be cleaning your tongue properly. Visit your dentist and ask him about some correct brushing patterns and start using a tongue cleaner. Whenever you experience gag try to focus on some other activity or object, such as your big toe. It diverts you and thus the gag stops. Avoid mouth breathing, that increases the gag. If the problem persists even after changing your brushing/cleaning pattern and avoiding mouth breathing there is more to it. Pay a visit to both your dentist and gasteroenterologist.

My teeth broken in car accident. Front teeth look like so bad. Teeth also feel pain taking water. Any suggestion to me.
U need to visit a dentist at the earliest. Get an x ray done n get the damage evaluated. If the teeth damage is minimal, tooth coloured filling ll b sufficient. If the damage involves the teeth pulp area, rct n capping'll b done n if reqd, post n core build up'll b done. If the fracture lines extend into the root portion of your teeth n cannot n restored, they could b extracted following which they'll b replaced with artificial teeth. Meanwhile maintain good oral hygiene n avoid chewing using your broken teeth. Use a mouthwash.

Hi, there are various reasons of bad breath, like impurities in blood, inefficient digestive system, dry mouth (lack of saliva production), gum disease, cavities, plaque and tartar formation around teeth and gums, kind of diet, improper brushing / cleaning of mouth etc. I would advise you to get a thorough physical and dental examination to rule out the cause of bad breath and to solve it permanently. How to protect my teeth.?

BDS
Dentist,
Limit sugary foods and drinks. Bacteria in your mouth feed on sugar from foods and drinks. Eat foods that protect enamel. Calcium in food counters acids in your mouth that cause decay. Avoid over-brushing. You can wear down your enamel if you brush too fast and hard. Use fluoride. Avoid grinding your teeth. Get regular checkups.

I am 19 years old and my mouth smells a lot. How to remove this problem.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist,
Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouthwash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

I am 31 year female. I brush and floss, use mouthwash regularly but still I have bad odour problem from my mouth. Kindly advice.

BDS, MDS, MBA (Healthcare), FAM
Dentist, Hyderabad
Dear madam, although you do all the right things to take care of your teeth and gums but the real question is and I hope that you are doing it right! bad odour or halitosis as we dentist know it is a multifactorial phenomenon! it can arise due to problems in teeth, or problems in gums or problem with your digestive system. Improper brushing although you might be doing it twice, thrice or any number of times will not help in effectively removing plaque from the teeth if it is not done the right way and as time goes by plaque turns into a hard mass called calculus! at this stage no amount of brushing can remove the calculus and it can only be removed by a professional oral scaling and prophylaxis procedure. I request you to see your dentist and allow him to evaluate the situation and he could suggest to you about what exactly the problem is and will also give you treatment options and advice on how you could effectively brush and take care of oral hygiene in a better way!

Homoeopathic medicine---------------- echenesia 30 (dr reckeweg) drink 2 drops in 1 spoon fresh water 3 times daily------------------- b. C.-18 (dr reckeweg) chew 4 tabs every 4 hrly ------------------------- hekla lavatooth powder (wheezal) scrub teeth daily night-------------------------- tooth paste in morning with any tooth paste of your choice---------------------------- report after 1 months--------------------- take following precautions for your teeth------------------ 1. Drinks: coffee and red wine cause major damage to teeth. But other drinks with high acidity, such as soda, juices and even sports drinks can cause damage staining on the teeth because of its tannins and acidic nature wear away at the tooth enamel. These acidic drinks lowers the ph of teeth below 6 thus causing corrosive wear and tear of teeths. 2. Certain foods: all sweets, candies, popscicles, damage teeth due to its high sugar content. So avoid them as much as you can and if you eat do not forget to rinse your mouth with water immediately after finishing it--------------------------------------- 3. Every time you take meals or eat something make sure to rinse your mouth with water and with homoeopathic rinseout gargles (sbl) after every meals---------------------------------- 4. Use any brand paste for brushing teeth in morning but never forget to scrub teeth with hekla lavatooth powder (wheezal) at night just before sleep.------------------------------------- 5. If possible start a habit of chewing neem stick (datuun) in the morning as it not anly scrubs our teeth but its juice acts as a good antiseptic and antibiotic to destroy the harmful bacterias stuck in out teeth cavities and inbetween teeth.

Hi lybrate-user. Looks to me like a wisdom tooth problem. This 3rd molar sometimes does not have adequate place to align itself with other teeth in the mouth add due to its awkward path of eruption causes gum swelling and pain. An x ray will reveal the cause and treatment can be done at the dentist.

The best way to avoid dentist appointment is better brush your teeth twice daily with correct method of brushing, and before going to bed it's mandatory.
Second thing you can do is go to dentist for saying him/her hello and get your teeth clinically examined at least twice in a year.
The above tips are time tested and reliable.
If you can do that much, you are sure to stay out of that dental chair majority of times.
