Sometimes violent cough may cause bleeding as you have. However, if bleeding persists, you need to do blood exam along with chest X-ray as a first step to find out the cause. If no abnormality is detected in these investigations, then you need to do CT scan of chest to rule out other causes. Wait for 1-2 days, if cough with bleeding continue, consult any homoeopathic physician. You can also consult me on chat.

Hello, I am giving you some home remedies for enlarged tonsils Gargle with warm salt water to reduce the swelling and pain caused by enlarged tonsils Mix honey and lime juice in a glass of warm water on this soothing drink to treat a sore throat and reduce nasal congestion Add a pinch of turmeric powder and black pepper powder to a glass of warm milk. steam inhalations to help relieve congestion in the chest and nasal passages. Stop from talking too much to rest the throat and speed up the healing process In most cases, tonsils will shrink to their normal size after a few days of such natural remedies. should drink at least eight glasses of water a day to keep hydrated. Apart from water, he can drink clear soups, warm broths, herbal teas and fresh fruit and vegetable juices Avoid drinks that are too acidic such as citrus juices and buttermilk as these can aggravate symptoms Avoid all junk food and foods that are oily, fried and spicy Boiled vegetables, mashed potatoes, cooked oatmeal, jello, scrambled eggs and baked fruits are all excellent options. Avoid foods and snacks that are hard and crunchy such as chips, hard breads, and nuts as these can increase the inflammation. Consult ENT doctor for further Management

Vertigo is a sensation of feeling off balance. If you have these dizzy spells, you might feel like you are spinning or that the world around you is spinning. Causes of Vertigo Vertigo is often caused by an inner ear problem. Some of the most common causes include: BPPV. These initials stand for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. BPPV occurs when tiny calcium particles (canaliths) clump up in canals of the inner ear. The inner ear sends signals to the brain about head and body movements relative to gravity. It helps you keep your balance. BPPV can occur for no known reason and may be associated with age. Meniere's disease. This is an inner ear disorder thought to be caused by a buildup of fluid and changing pressure in the ear. It can cause episodes of vertigo along with ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and hearing loss. Vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis. This is an inner ear problem usually related to infection (usually viral). The infection causes inflammation in the inner ear around nerves that are important for helping the body sense balance Less often vertigo may be associated with: Head or neck injury Brain problems such as stroke or tumor Certain medications that cause ear damage Migraine headaches For medication Consult online in private.

Hi Doctor, I have 1 Tonsil stone from last 1 month. I have tried anti-biotics, betadine gargle and even salt water gargle as suggested by the doctor, but still no effect of it. I have been facing little issues while gulping things (it feels like there is something stuck inside). Also, due to this I have started experiencing acidity problem and chest pain at times. So, I want to get it removed. It is of small in size. So, do I need to get an operation done or it can be removed without getting operated. So, could you provide information on this and also the charges for it. Thanks.

ENT Specialist, Guwahati
Its tonsillolith, its not necessary to undergo operation for removing tonsillolith. It's generally removed manually and maintaining oral hygiene after it is sufficient. But, main concern in your history is development of clinical symptoms while swallowing also chest pain. Repeated tonsillitis or tonsillar infection is an indication of operation. So, get a whole body check up to rule out any systemic affects developed and undergo tonsillectomy if needed. Regarding cost, tonsillectomy can be done either by dissection method or coblation method (both under rs 35000). Best of luck.

Ear Pain - Can it Be a Sign of Infection?

MS - ENT
ENT Specialist, Nagpur
Ear Pain - Can it Be a Sign of Infection?

Ear infection is a disorder which can either be viral or bacterial, affecting one’s middle ear the most. This disorder is painful as fluid accumulates in the ear leading to inflammation. Infections of the ear can either be chronic or acute in nature, the damage is more prominent in case of chronic infections. Acute ear infections can be painful but they usually fade away in a few days’ time.

Symptoms
In case of an ear infection, you will experience pain in the ear. A pressure may develop in the ear accompanied by drainage of pus from the ears. Some severe cases might also lead to loss of hearing, be it temporary or permanent. The symptoms of ear infection may develop and affect both the ears. Fever during ear infections is another common auxiliary condition.

Causes
Ear infections tend to occur when the Eustachian tubes in the ear get blocked as a result of fluid accumulation in the ear. The Eustachian tubes can get blocked due to the following reasons –

  1. Being affected by allergies
  2. Conditions such as cold can lead to ear infection
  3. Problems in the sinuses
  4. Excessive smoking
  5. Infected adenoid glands

In addition to the causes, there are certain risk factors which can make one prone to ear infections, some of them being:

  1. Narrow Eustachian tubes in children increase the risks of ear infections
  2. Changes in climate and altitude
  3. Second hand exposure to cigarette smoke

Treatment
For mild symptoms, simple home remedies will suffice. A warm compress on the affected area can reduce the pain. Taking pain relieving medications such as ibuprofen can also help in reducing pain. For moderate symptoms, antibiotics may be required to treat the bacterial infection.
If other treatments do not work, then surgery may be required. Usually tubes are inserted in the ear to drain the accumulated fluid. If it involves the adenoid glands, then surgical removal of the adenoid glands may be required. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ent-specialist.

Hello lybrate-user just apply cold compresses over nose. Nasal bleeding could occur during colds due to forceful nose blowing so avoid blowing the nose forcefully small vessels rupture leading to blood stained mucus. Do steam inhalation it will be viral shall subside. If not will require to consult.
