Osteopetrosis

This rare congenital condition is charraterized by markedly increased density of bone, the whole skeletion being affected with the possible exception of the mandible.
Aetology:-

 Two forms are recognized. The first is a severe usually fatal form with leuko erythroblastic anaemin or pancytopenia compensatory enlargemen of liver speen, brittle bones, multiple cranial palsies; this form is autosomal recessive in inheritance. The second milder form, the orginal albers schonberg disease, is caused by a dominant gene the bony involvement may be milder less widespread.

Pathology
 The abnormal bone structure is charaterized by disorderly architecture with thickend closely packed trabecula zones or osteochondroid material: hypercalcification of cartilage has been noted.

 Symptoms:-
* onset is slow progressive. Usually one or two joints are involved in the begining.
* pain is at first intermittent aching type.
* larer on hip, knee etc, are involved.
* pain is better by rest.
* limitation of movenments.

Risk factors for osteoporosis

* nutritional deficiency, calcium, vitamind, protein.
* postmenopausal women, most common.
* hypothalamic amenorrhoea. Athletes, anorexia nervosa.
* cigarrette smoking.
* alchohol.
* corticosteroids.
* anticonvulsants.
* heparin.
* renal disease.
* hyperparrathyroidism.
* immobilisation.
* lack of exercise.
* malabsorption syndrome.

Diagnosin:-
 * osteoporosis is a strightforward diagnosis for those with obvious osteopenia on x - ray pathologic fractures.
* plain x - ray, however, is typically a poor way of diagnosing osteoporsis as much must be lost before it is deteced. Thus, the lrst of choice is dual energy x- ray absorptiometry dexa, which is non in invastive eary to perform.

Treatment
Calcium supplementation is recommended 1500mg elemental calcium per day.
* vitmin d deficiency should also be treated.
General management
* bed rest till active inflmmation subsides.
* hot fomentation to relieve joint pain.
* ressume normal activity gradually.
* aviod sunlight.

Leg PainIf you have leg pain then you have to rule out the casues for having leg pain. First of all check your weight and your haemoglobin levels, as Anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having leg pain though there are no issues with the knee joint or back pain. If not if the pain radiates down the back of thigh and legs then it might be due to sciatica. Kindly consult the nearby physiotherapist. Hope you recover soon from the leg pain. Pain in the back while walking and standing Pain in the right legIf you have leg pain please check your body weight and your hemoglobin levels, as Anemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having leg pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain. My suggestion would be to wear MCR Chapels which will help you to prevent the weight falling on the If you have back pain while walking and standing first of all check your weight and your hemoglobin levels, as Anemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having back pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain. My suggestion would be to wear MCR Chapels which will help you to prevent the weight falling on the back. And also should check whether you have flat foot on the right leg that also might be the reason to have pain in one particular leg Pain in the left side of the leg/thighThe compression of the sciatic nerve should be around the right side that's the reason you have pain in the left side. That's the reason you cannot sit or stand and it is exactly around the L5 vertebrae where the sciatic nerve passes by.

Sir my knee is slitly touching each other and I want join the defense sir so there is any way to correct it.

DNB (Orthopedics), Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho), MBBS
Orthopedist, Chennai
When the knees touch each other it is called knock knees (medical term is valgus knees). Since it's a mechanical problem the only way of setting it right is by surgery. The type of surgery will depend on your age and the condition of the knee joint surface.

I am suffering from neck and upper back pain since an year. I am also suffering from right hip pain and pain in both lower legs. Pain from knees to feet in my both legs. It hurts in my calf muscle regions while walking. I consulted neurologist one year ago. He suggested for MRI. The report says that" no significant abnormality detected" But screening of cervical spine shows that" minimal posterior disc protrusion noted at c5-6 with mild anterior thecal sac indentation" It also shows that "schmorl's nodes noted in few lower dorsal vertebra" He prescribed medicines and I'm having them. But the result is not up to the mark. Respected Doctor "Please tell me is my disc protrusion problem responsible for my right hip and both lower legs pain? And also do tell me how to overcome this neck, upper back, right hip and both lower leg pain. My blood respond x- ray of right hip both lower leg s are normal. My height is 5-10. Weight is 75. Age is 21 years. Doctor please tell me solution Thanks to doctor and Lybrate.

I am suffering from neck and upper back pain since an year. I am also suffering from right hip pain and pain in both ...
1) neck pain & upper back pain is due to disc problem at c5-6. & has no connection with hip & leg pain. 2) hip & legpain might be due to muscular strain or spasm. 3) i'll suggest you to do mri of hip joint in that case. Raktamokshan is best for calf muscle pain. 1) do massage with warm sesame oil or suitable oil for 15 min. Afterwards take hot fomentation for 10 min. 2) start natural calcium supplement. 3) do regular stretching exercise 4) in yoga do bhujangasan, halasan & suryanamaskar. Life-style correction 1) correct your sitting posture. 2) take small pillow or back rest for lower back. 3) foot should rest to floor easily. 4) take small break after 1 hr & walk few steps. 5) do neck & upper back extension, you can consult privately.

I am having cold and cough and headache with knee pain and at times I feel dizzy can you suggest me anything?

I am having cold and cough and headache with knee pain and at times I feel dizzy can you suggest me anything?
For cold and cough, you need proper care. Avoid cold exposure. Cover yourself properly in this cold weather. Avoid having anything cold, food or any beverage. If the problem persists, you will require medicines. For knee pain, you need physiotherapy, cover your knees so that it remains warm. For dizziness, take healthy food. You may require multi vitamins.
