Try some over the counter noise drops and warm salt water gargles thrice a day for about 2 days. If this doesn't help, please get yourself examined by an ent doctor.

I am a 21 years old man with regular sneezing, wet cough and maxillary sinusitis. Please suggest me ways to avoid it?

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
ENT Specialist, Delhi
Thsese symptoms may be due to nasal allergy. You need to take antihistaminics and steroid nasal spray. Avoid exposure to dust. You may also require xray nose and sinus to rule out any underlying pathology.

All about Rhinitis

MBBS, MS - ENT
ENT Specialist, Delhi
All about Rhinitis

Rhinitis is an irritable medical condition where the mucous lining of a person's nose swells up. The term is more of a category and less of a definitive way to describe something specific. Rhinitis involves a host of other conditions that affect the mucous membranes of your nose. If you were not aware, common cold is also a kind of rhinitis. Rhinitis can cause acute touchiness in the inner lining of the nose leading to continuous discharges from one's nose. It can also lead to clogging of your nose or inflammation of the internal tissues.

Rhinitis can be divided under two main types; allergic and non- allergic rhinitis. Allergic rhinitis, popularly known as hay fever is caused due to contact with allergens that are usually undamaging. However, in case of non- allergic rhinitis the symptoms take after that of the allergic type but no particular causal factor can be identified.

Factors that can increase your propensity to suffer from rhinitis of any kind are:

  • Pollen from flowers
  • Inhaling certain substances can be harmful; smell of certain chemicals is bad too.
  • Both active as well as passive smoking can be detrimental
  • High levels of air pollution contributes to the risk
  • Weather conditions affect your health; a windy yet humid weather can aggravate rhinitis.

Common symptoms of rhinitis can be listed as below:

  1. A person suffering from this condition might catch a cold all of a sudden.
  2. People, usually little children, might even face high fevers.
  3. Your nose tends to be runny. After the infection subsides, chances of a thick, sticky discharge are more.
  4. Exhaustion is also felt in combination with headaches and teary eyes.
  5. The nature of your nasal discharge tells the doctor if you are suffering from an allergy or from a viral infection.

A few preventive measures to aid you against rhinitis:

  1. Rhinitis can be communicable and in most cases it is so. Therefore a person should not share his or her utensils and other personal things such as towels or handkerchiefs with any other person.
  2. One should not be in close proximity of another infected person.
  3. Hands are the most common sources of infection. One must wash his or her unclean hands before touching the face.

Dear it may be due to many reasons like allergic changes in nose, enlarged turbinates, any mass or polyps in nose. Get a ct scan done to find out any underlying pathology.

I am 18 years old and I have sinusitis problem from a month. How can I get rid of that problem.

DORL, MBBS
ENT Specialist, Faridabad
Main symptoms for maxillary sinusitis are thick nasal discharge, headache, watering eyes, forehead pain, recurrent infection of nose and mouth, post nasal drip, sinusitis, is nothing but a physiological disorder of nose which led by malfunctioning of aerodynamics of nose (temporary sinusitis, secondly it is because of repeated infections of the sinus (permanent sinusitis) sinuses regulations and air conditioning of the air which we breathe and to get the benefit of above we must have normal, well sized opened sinusitis and hence nose breathing is required, those who breathe from mouth, they have tendency to get more throat and lungs infections. Recurrent sinus infection, pollution, poor diet, spicy food, long term steam inhalation from nose, and allergies leads to thick discharge from nose. This thick mucus if stays in the sinuses, it leads to irritation of the sinus skin which is mucosa and this go on growing hence leads to permanent sinusitis this extra growth is called nasal polyps this is where patient needs surgical correction. If patient comes to nose surgeon at right time, doctor can revert his/her symptoms and surgery can be abandoned. Sinusitis if patient does not take serious steps to correct might lead to cardiac symptoms, lung diseases, etc. Once there are nasal polyps you have to go for surgery immediately.

Hello. My mother age is nearly 55 years. She is suffering from hypertrophy of turbinates in nose. She is having problem of blockage of air during night. I prescribed her fluticasone. Enlarged inferior turbinates are one of the causes for blocking of the nose. A steroid nasal spray helps to a certain extent but the mechanical problem has to be rectified. Turbinectomy (trimming of the turbinates) will help by allowing more air flow inside the nostrils & the blocking will come down considerably. Medication will only work if you have an allergic component. Consult an ent surgeon who will diagnose & treat you accordingly.

My wife had cold and then she recovered but now her right ear has blocked. Any suggestions?

My wife had cold and then she recovered but now her right ear has blocked. Any suggestions?
Fever is not considered medically significant until body temperature is above 100.4 F (38 C). Fever serves as one of the body's natural defenses against bacteria and viruses which cannot live at a higher temperatures..Also, the body's defense mechanisms seem to work more efficiently at a higher temperature -Fevers of 104 F (40 C) or more may be dangerous and demand immediate treatment The following medications may be used at home for mild fever : -Acetaminophen (dolo-650 mg) twice or thrice can be used to lower a fever . Aspirin should not be used in children during a viral illness. -Wear comfortable loose fitting clothes and donot overdress. Overdressing can cause the temperature to rise further. -Tepid water (85 F [30 C]) baths may help bring down a fever -The body should be cooled with a wet sponge. -Fever can cause dehydration.Drink plenty of fluids.Have citrus fruits, particularly Vitamin C rich ones like mausami,Amla juice etc. -Take light and easily digestible home cooked meals .avoid outside food -Wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water especially before meals, or after returning from a public places or using public transport. -Further therapy depends on the cause of fever like urinary infection/typhoid or malaria/dengue infection and the accompanying symptoms that need to be investigated and treated accordingly

It seems your son is having nasal intonation, which is in medical term known as rhinolalia. Now there are two types of rhinolalia 1. Operta and 2. Clausa. Rhinolalia operta is caused by cleft palate, while rhinolalia clausa is caused by enlarged adenoids or any nasopharyngeal mass. So you must consult an experienced ent surgeon for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Left ear has lots of ear wax how to clean it As I always has more ear wax in left ear.
You may use OTC ear drops such as Soliwax or clearwax. 4 drops 4-5 times in a day. If it comes out on its own. Good enough, otherwise someone else has to wipe it out using an ear bud if still not feeling OK.

Throat pain along with the symptoms that you have mentioned can be due to infection of the posterior part of the throat or the tonsils.
