Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. It requires detailed investigation and examination. Preliminary investigations suggested: hb, tlc, dlc, esr, blood sugar fasting & pp, uric acid vit d urine r/e x-ray of the affected part. Anyway it may be tried sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back, knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Do not ignore it. Let it not become beginning of a bigger problem. Make sure that patient is not allergic to any of the medicines that he/she is going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, inform.

My mother is around 42 and she is suffering from severe backache and legs pain but this pain becomes more painful in this winter season and it causes swelling in her legs please suggest me something to get her relief from this pain.

Use hot water bag and keep it there for sometime. Do it regularly. You can also consult a physiotherapist. He can show you various exercises to relieve the pain and then you can do it on your own.

Hello, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. You will have to elaborate your problem as to a detailed discussion of your neck pain which means mode of onset. I would also like to ask you if it is associated with any radiation of pain to upper limbs or any other neurological symptoms like numbness, paraesthesias ( electrical shock like abnormal sensations) or any weakness in limbs. Please also tell me about any associated symptoms like fever, weight loss etc. Normally such symptoms are due to sleeping in a bad posture at night and it takes around 1-2 weeks for it to settle. You can take ice packs for 4-5 days, anti-inflammatory medications which suit you, muscle relaxant can also be added, local analgesic spray. Hello lybrate user, from the symptoms you are describing, the most probable diagnosis would be an infection. Tuberculosis is the most common infection in our country. Weight loss, fever along with it would support the diagnosis of an infection. I would suggest you to consult an orthopaedic surgeon as urgently as possible. It could probably be treated be medicines alone in the early stages. Later stages of destruction require might require surgery. There is no reason for panic but consult an orthopedic surgeon urgently and get x rays done and an mri of necessary.

Keep ice which will reduce the inflammation and that will there by reduce the pain anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired that can also be reason to have frequent pain in the whole body especially in the back bone. Once the oxygen levels in the blood comes down it automatically leads to improper functioning of the joints and muscles. It is also due to vacuum created in the joints as once the body lacks oxygen automatically the body becomes arid and that is one reason to get frequent pain the body ie. Back bone. The hip muscles become tired thereby straining in a day with any physical activity might lead to back bone pain. And also wear mcr chappals which will help you to prevent the weight falling on the hip while standing. This is a general low back ache and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes, if pain still persists you can stretch your body by twisting the waist on both sides how we used to do in the school drill similarly you can try which will help you relax as well will reduce the pain. Ice can be kept in the low back where you have back pain. This is due to the improper posture as while sitting in front of the computer it leads to neck pain and thereby it leads to shoulder pain. We suggest neck mobilization exercises that would reduce the stress falling on the shoulder. We also suggest patients to do shoulder mobilization exercises ie. General shoulder movements/neck movements which will help you to improve the blood circulation.

Hi = relax and stay positive. = increase fluid intake. = eat seasonal fruits for natural vitamins = do streching of hamstring, quadriceps, and calf muscles. = if you are overweight, reduce weight by cycling or swimming as it gives low impact on joints. = do check your calcium and vit. D = apply moist heat pad to affected joint and muscles. Identify the mid point between the ankle bone and tendons and give pressure with a blunt edge on either side of your foot for 2 minutes. Also give pressure in the web between 2nd and 3rd finger from your toe for 2 minutes. Finally give a good massage for both feet in hot water. Identify the dipping portion on the back of your knee folding. Press this dip with both middle fingers and hold your knee with your thumbs for support. Please swing 20 times morning and evenings. *Don’t sit continuously working on laptop etc. Get up periodically and move around.*Avoid bending forward while working on lap top or for any other work. *Restrict bike driving as far as possible. *Don’t carry laptop or any load on your shoulder. Carrying very light loads equally with both hands is better *Sit straight so that back bone gets proper support. A dining chair is better than a laid back sofa. *You can use mustard oil for massage which is good in winter season for relieving pain.
