Frozen Shoulder - How Pendulum Stretch Is Good For You?

Frozen Shoulder - How Pendulum Stretch Is Good For You?

Frozen shoulder (also known as adhesive capsulitis) is a condition in which the shoulder is stiff, painful, and has limited motion in all directions. A person suffering from a frozen shoulder can be pretty uncomfortable.

Frozen shoulder treatment should be done immediately once it has been detected. Stretching exercises are considered as the best-frozen shoulder treatment exercises. A proper warm up becomes very necessary before any exercise.

Making the area warm by using a heating pad is one of the warm-up methods. However, a warm shower covers it all.

Physiotherapy for frozen shoulder includes various exercises that should be first confirmed by a doctor. There are a number of exercises for frozen shoulder. Some very important frozen shoulder exercises are listed below:

  1. Pendulum Stretch: To start with, you can do the pendulum stretch. This dictates that the shoulders should be in a state of relaxation, initially, following which the arm which is affected should be allowed to hang down slightly. Once this is done, the arm is to be swung in a small circle i.e. about a foot in diameter. This is to be done consistently so that there can be a gradual improvement in the condition. As there is an improvement, the size of the circle can be increased and once the shoulder can take sufficient weight again, minor weights (up to five pounds) can be used.
  2. Finger Walk: A simple exercise which can be done almost anywhere is the finger walk. What this exercise entails is that the person stands about three-fourths of an arm’s length away from a wall and then places his or her fingers on the wall itself, at around the level of the waist. The fingers are to crawl or walk up the wall till the point that it becomes a little uncomfortable. While this is just one repetition, after the fingers have been lowered, it is to be done again. In order to have the best results in combating frozen shoulder, the finger walk exercise is to be repeated about twenty times in a day.
  3. Towel Stretches: Towels do not serve a greater role apart from drying up post a bath or over the course of a visit to the spa, right? Well, this is not really true due to the fact that they can be used to even help with frozen shoulder! Indeed, towel stretches done by holding the towel with each hand across one’s back. The arm which is normal should then pull the affected arm so it is stretched. As is the case with the finger walk, about 20 repetitions a day is ideal for good results.

If one goes a step forward and follows a regime of with all these exercises, the person suffering due to frozen shoulder will be back to normal in almost no time at all!

Sir I hv a pain in my hands nd legs. Can you please suggest me that why my knees paining.
Gentle massage over the affected part with lukewarm herbal pain relieving oil for 20 minutes followed by hot fomentation. It will relax the muscles and the veins of your affected part improving the blood supply to the organ and giving strength to it. Please avoid over-use of the part affected i. E. Lifting weight - pushing or pulling heavy objects. Give proper rest to the part - let it heal with the time. This will greatly help. Although some herbal medicines might also help you but after proper history taking. Please update with your valuable feedback after 15 days.

What Goes Wrong With My Back?

What Goes Wrong With My Back?

I propose that a simple back pain develops when an intervertebral disc (the fibrous pillow between the vertebrae) loses water content and stiffens. This can be caused by several factors, not least small-scale injury-either across or through the length of the spine-once the spine has become compressed. Then one of two things can happen for the problem to get worse: you can develop more serious trouble from the front compartment of the spine as the disc breaks down further. Or you can develop trouble from the back compartment as strain translates across to the facet joints. Worse still, you can get pain from both compartments at the same time. Finally, the whole sale destruction of both compartments can cause the vertebrae to jump around, in what is called segmental instability. The sequential disorder in the route of breakdown is as follows:

Stage 1: A STIFF SPINAL SEGMENT

An intervertebral disc between two vertebrae cases to be a buoyant pillow and becomes like a layer of compressed carpet. The vertebrae on top lose mobility and the segment becomes like a stiff link in the spinal chain. As it retires from activity the disc shrinks because it cannot generate sufficient suction to feed itself. Eventually, the flattening can be picked up on X-ray, but well before this point, the condition can be painful in what I believe is the most common spinal disorder.

Stage 2: ARTHRITIS OF THE FACET JOINTS

As a disc at the front of the spine drops in height it causes overriding of the bone-to-bone junctions (called the facet joints) at the back of the spine. The upper vertebrae settle down on the one below, causing bony rub between parts of the spine which could only have fleeting contact. Early on, this simply inflames the soft tissues around the facet joints but eventually, it causes arthritic change as it erodes the cartilage covering the bone. Facet joint trouble also is a relatively common form of low back pain.

Stage 3: AN ACUTE LOCKED BACK

This is a fluke incident when you are caught halfway through a movement by a pain like an electric cleaver going through your back. It makes moving in any direction excruciating and the body locks itself rigid. Although there never appears to be any warning, the problem usually has its origins in incipient disc breakdown.

All spines, even healthy ones, must brace themselves as they pass through a vulnerable part of the range at the beginning of a bending movement. If a disc between two vertebrae has flattened through the degenerative process, it may be unable to generate sufficient springing-apart tension to keep its segments stable as the spine goes over.

The top vertebrae can jump imperceptibly out of joint at one of the facets, and the muscles develop instantaneous protective spasm to stop the vertebrae going any further. As a disc progressively loses its stuffing, it bulges like a perishing car tyre whenever it takes the weight. The fibrous disc wall takes most of the strain, and in some cases, it can perish at the points of greatest duress- usually one of the back corners.

At the same time, the centre of the disc (called the nucleus) loses cohesion, after which excessive twisting and lifting activity can make it extrude through a fissure in the wall where it is weak. Sometimes the displaced nucleus lodges on a nearby spinal nerve and causes pain.
