Hello lybrate user, arthritis is a degenerative condition which progresses with aging. It goes through different stages like mild, moderate and severe arthritis. You might be suffering from arthritis at the age of 49 because of some pre-disposing condition but it usually presents in patients greater than 55 to 60 years. You have mentioned that you have bearable pain while walking. You might be in the early stages of arthritis. This can be managed by lifestyle modifications like light exercises, weight reduction, physiotherapy for the muscles of knee to maintain the mobility and strengthen the muscles. This might decrease your pain as well. If you have persistent pain, it might respond to painkillers. Surgery is advisable to only those who have unbearable pain and who are unable to do their daily routine activities because of the advanced arthritis. The other disadvantage of surgery at an early age is the limited life span of the prosthetic knee joint. Even in ideal cases has a life span of 15 to 20 years, after which you might need to undergo revision surgeries which are complex and are associated with a high rate of complications. So considering an average of 12 years of implant survival, by the age of 70 to 75 you might need a second revision surgery. Therefore, it is best to delay surgery as much as possible unless you have complications like decreasing movement at the knee joint or development of a severe deformity because of a severe grade of arthritis or unbearable pain not responding even to the highest doses of medications. Teething usually begins at 8 months of age. In some case it begins earlier and in some cases it is late. If you are sure the pain is due to teething, then you can try a pacifier/teether.

Dear Lybrate User, Pimples/ Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease which develops due to blocking of the hair follicles in skin. These blockages occur due to 4 abnormal processes: 1) Excess sebum production due to androgens 2) Excessive deposition of the protein keratin leading to comedone formation 3) Infection of Propionibacterium acnes (P. Acnes) bacteria on the hair follicles 4) Local release of pro-inflammatory chemicals in the skin. In order to stop the formation of pimples the aforesaid four causes should be terminated. Now the bitter truth is neither can you stop the overproduction of androgen or keratin protein nor can you stop the release of pro-inflammatory chemicals because all these processes takes place internally in your skin. Eat small but frequent meals. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Lastly be committed. Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing. It's a balanced intake that will last you longer. All the so called diets will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. So, try to first follow this seemingly simple tips. I am sure it will at least help you with initial fat loss.

For a person to achieve a complete sense of well-being, he or she needs to have a functional mental and physical health. Although there are hundreds of methods such as yoga, meditation, exercise and annual checkups to maintain good health, people are not aware of them due to many factors such as lack of awareness. Yet the following are some of the habits one can adhere to in their daily lives for a healthy living. 

  1. Eat to stay fit: 'Every time you eat or drink, you are either feeding disease or fighting it.' Eating healthy is crucial as it facilitates and improves the metabolic functions of the body. One should always aim for a balanced diet consisting of adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals. Fresh fruits and vegetables should be included and fried, fat-rich and fast foods should be avoided to the extent possible. The right foods help in fighting foreign substances while the unhealthy ones breed them.
  2. Rest to be at your best: Requisite rest and sufficient sleep is essential for proper functioning of the body. If perhaps, early to bed and early to rise is not your thing, then you might try going to bed at a regular time each day. A good night's sleep rejuvenates both the body and the mind after a day's work. It can be compared to the refreshing cold water that one craves after a long run. So for those who love sleep, you people are possibly on the right track.
  3. Follow an active lifestyle: A sedentary lifestyle is perhaps the cause of a diaspora of diseases in the long run. A daily dose of physical activity is quintessential for maintaining a sound physical and mental health.
