Hello doctor. Today I feel red or brown vaginal discharge. Is my labour pain is near?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Sexologist, Faridabad
Brown or bloody discharge is usually normal, especially when it occurs during or right after your menstrual cycle. A late discharge at the end of your period can look brown instead of red. You may also experience a small amount of bloody discharge in between periods, which is called spotting.

Me and my gf are 20 years old. We had protected sex and she also took an emergency contraception pill after 2 hours. This was in January. However, for the past 2 months, she's having very little, next to none, bleeding. She bled very little once every 20 days. Worried if its a symptom of pregnancy.

Get a urine home pregnancy test done if you haven't done it already. If it is negative visit a gynaecologist as ipill seem to have disturbed the fragile endocrine balance meant for regular menstrual periods. Wait for a couple of more periods and see if she regains the periodicity by itself. Else get a gynae check up done.

Sir my wife faced lake of hemoglobin problem during the pregnancy. What diet use for this time.
hi lybrate user, it is difficult to follow healthy and nutritional diet because of nausea and vomiting .you should have short but frequent meals. in the morning you should have red coloured dry fruits, dry toast in the morning. all fruits such as pomegranate, apple, banana, pear ,green leafy vegetables are good source of dietery iron . you should never take iron with milk and calcium as it will prevent absorption of iron. increase vit C in diet such as lemon, tomotos, orange, sometimes, gooseberry, fig to increase iron absorption. increase proteins in diet pulses, beans, egg whites, fish, meat which helps to increase in hemoglobin.

Many of us today have jobs which require extended periods of sitting

MD - Pharmacology, ECFMG certified , MBBS
General Physician, Navi Mumbai
Many of us today have jobs which require extended periods of sitting. Is it good for us? Definitely not.

Research has shown that sitting for prolonged durations has many dangerous effects on our body in the long term.

1) On your back -
The problem: sitting for long hours can cause muscle aches and pains. It can also lead to abnormal bending of your spine which may make one more prone to have long term back pain.
The solution: keep your back straight and maintain proper posture.

2) On your weight -
The problem: according to a recent research, people who say they watch television frequently are 40 per cent less likely to exercise than non-tv watchers.
The solution: get up and get moving.

3) On your brain
The problem: researchers recently found that prolonged session of watching tv before going to bed makes it harder to fall asleep, reduces sleep, and makes one groggy the next day, even after clocking eight hours of sleep. The reason is that the blue light which the television emits, inhibits the release of melatonin, a hormone that helps you go to sleep.
The solution: limit your tv viewing to two hours after work.

4) On your lungs
The problem: among the many health hazards it causes, sitting for long hours can also shrink your lung capacity by a third, so you get less oxygen, which causes a decrease in mental focus the second you sit on the couch.
The solution: sit on a chair with a pillow behind your lower back. It is a position that helps open your lungs.

5) On your heart
The problem: An international study found out that on an average, every single hour of television watching after 25 reduces life expectancy by close to 22 minutes.
The solution: researchers have discovered little mortality risk for people who watch less than an hour a day. Pick a show that's a real brain numbing deal, so you're more likely to need time between episodes.
