Spotting - What Does it Indicate?

MBBS, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Ahmedabad
Spotting - What Does it Indicate?

Spotting can be stated as a form of mild bleeding from the vagina. It is similar to a period, but it is much lighter and can occur in between your periods. Most women who are pregnant and are in their first trimester experience spotting. In fact, spotting is often seen as one of the early signs of pregnancy.

Spotting can happen because of any of the following reasons:

  1. Cysts in the uterus can cause spotting
  2. Though very rare, a thyroid problem can also lead to spotting
  3. Any infection in the cervix or uterine cancer can also cause spotting
  4. Lastly, hormonal imbalance can also cause spotting

What can spotting signify?
Spotting is completely normal and there is no need to be worried if it happens on account of any of the following reasons.

  1. Light spotting at the end of the bleeding period during the menstrual cycle is common.
  2. Spotting can also occur during ovulation; in fact, seeing some spots of blood when one is ovulating, is often considered as an excellent sign of fertility.
  3. Mild spotting can also develop after sex, especially if it is for the first time, owing to the hymen getting ruptured
  4. Mild spotting if one is on birth control pills is also normal.

When should you be worried?

  1. Spotting is an early sign of pregnancy and if you are not planning to conceive any time soon, then you must visit your gynaecologist.
  2. Spotting may also be a symptom of any STD, primarily Chlamydia or Gonorrhea.
  3. As spotting could also be indicative of cancer, it’s advisable to not delay and consult the gynaecologist immediately.

Inducing abortion by these methods is dangerous to the life of the lady as it can cause death by inner bleeding or uncontrollable hemorrhage. Ask her to consult a Gyne, she will do the needful. All the best

You should have sex regularly between 12th to 18th day of your menstrual cycle. In this time period, there are more chances of getting pregnant provided your periods are regular.

No Time For Exercise - 6 Hacks To Stay Fit

No Time For Exercise - 6 Hacks To Stay Fit

"I don't have time" is one of the most common excuses heard for living an unhealthy lifestyle. When you're working at a full time job, it is often easier to order in from a restaurant and spend the evening watching television to 'cool off' instead of cooking a healthy meal and hitting the gym. However, a busy lifestyle does not necessarily need to be unhealthy. Here are a few simple tips to live a healthier life.

  1. Cook one pot meals: Cooking doesn't have to be complicated. Experiment with your microwave settings and recipes to find quick meals that can be made in under a minute like quiche in a mug or steamed salmon. Making pasta can be as easy as putting all the ingredients in together into a pot and letting them cook. Find recipes that require minimal grocery shopping and preparation.
  2. Take the stairs: Elevators are definitely a convenience and cannot be avoided if your office or home is on the 10th floor. To balance convenience and health, get off the elevator a floor or two below yours and climb up the remaining stairs. Obviously working up a sweat by climbing stairs at the beginning of your day at work isn't a good idea so time your stair climbs at the end of the day or when a shower is nearby.
  3. Avoid snacking: Eat proper meals instead of mindlessly snacking through the day. Keeping a food diary can help you recognize your eating habits and rectify them. If three meals a day does not satiate your hunger, break your meals into smaller portions eaten at more frequent intervals. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and should never be skipped.
  4. Drink plenty of water: Often we snack not because we're hungry but because the body is dehydrated. Water can also boost your energy levels and aid digestion. However, avoid filling your stomach with water before a meal to make you eat less. This can hinder your digestion process and keep your body from receiving its necessary nutrients.
  5. Cut back on packaged foods: Packaged food is never really all that good for you. In most cases, it is loaded with sugar, sodium, preservatives and artificial flavouring. If you cannot avoid packaged food, pick the one with minimal ingredients.
  6. Interval training: Spending an hour at the gym is not the only way to exercise. If you cannot find time for a full workout, try interval training. Get off the couch during intervals while watching your favourite soap or take a quick five minute break from your desk to exercise. Regular exercise will also help you sleep better and make you wake up feeling refreshed. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a dietitian-nutritionist.

Hi greetings. Premarietal sexual intercourse is not good in terms so many reasons from sexually transmitted diseases to psycho social relationships. Now a days we see lot off stds in having relationship with multiple people. Even if you maintain a single person personally I suggest you not to indulge in it until and unless you secure an independent secure career. Have seen so many with broken career and family to because of this. Hope you are convinced. Regards.

at 3 months, medicines don't work it will lead to incomplete abortion or septic abortion it's illegal to do MTP at 3 months or 14 weeks because sex of fetus is detected and everyone prefers to have male babies go to a government Hospitals, explain reasons for delay in visiting the doctors if there's a congenital defects, only then permission will be granted after taking opinion from 2 doctors

7th day of my period that is 20 april. We made out. Without protection, he didn't ejaculate inside me though. I don't basically have any symptoms now. But in case if I'm pregnant how many days after making will I know I'm pregnant? And till how many months is medical abortion applicable?

MBBS, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, FMAS, DMAS
Gynaecologist, Noida
Hello, the earliest you can confirm pregnancy is after 7 days post last intercourse with a blood serum beta hcg test, which if positive shall confirm pregnancy, though on 7th day of menses you were in your safe period, and pregnancy seems unlikely. Medical abortion can be safely undertaken till 7 weeks/49 days.

What can I do?
Take a proper opinion after your check up. I hope your partner knows about this. Basically this is right time to have a child. Think and if you r sure, consult quickly because earlier termination is better for your health.

Health Benefits of Vegetables

MD - General Medicine
Sexologist, Delhi
Health Benefits of Vegetables

People who eat fruit and #vegetables as part of their daily diet have a reduced risk of many chronic diseases. Usda's my plate encourages making half your plate fruits and vegetables.

Vegetables are an important part of healthy eating and provide a source of many #nutrients, including potassium, fiber, folate (folic acid) and vitamins a, e and c. Options like #broccoli, spinach, #tomatoes and #garlic provide additional benefits, making them a superfood!

Potassium may help to maintain healthy blood pressure. Dietary fiber from vegetables helps reduce blood cholesterol levels and may lower risk of heart disease.

Folate (folic acid) helps the body form healthy red blood cells. Women of childbearing age who may become pregnant and those in the first trimester of pregnancy need adequate folate to reduce the risk of neural tube defects and spina bifida during fetal development.
