Asthma Attack - Ways You Can Prevent It!

MBBS

Asthma Attack - Ways You Can Prevent It!

Asthmatic patients often find that the frequency and intensity of asthma attacks increase with a change in weather, as the challenges two-fold for asthmatic patients. If they are indoors, they inhale triggers such as dust mites, mould etc. and if they step outdoors, the outside air acts as a trigger for an asthmatic attack. However, there are ways to make your life easier.

  1. Curb allergy triggers inside your house: While you can’t do much about the weather, you can control the environment inside your house. Limit your time around pets that could trigger an attack and try keeping them outside the bedroom. Use dust proof covers on mattresses and pillows and changes your bedding regularly. Though it may look cosier, avoid using a lot of pillows and throw cushions on your bed. Clean and replace the filters of your home’s heating or cooling system before you start it up for the first time. The filters should also be regularly checked and cleaned throughout the winter.
  2. Ventilate the house: Keep your house dry and cool at all times to prevent the growth of mould and dust mites. To do this, run an exhaust fan in the bathroom while having a shower and in the kitchen while cooking. As far as possible, do not dry clothes indoors.
  3. Avoid too cold or too hot air: As far as possible avoid going outdoors especially on windy days. Instead of going for a walk outdoors, exercise at home or in a gym. When you go outdoors, drape a scarf over the lower half of your face to cover your nose and mouth. This will ensure that you do not breathe in too cold air or too hot air.
  4. Breathe correctly: As children, we’re told to keep our mouths closed. Not only is this good social etiquette, but it also prevents you from breathing through your mouth. The nostrils have tiny hair inside them that act as filters and keep dust particles and pollen from being inhaled. This also warms up the air while being inhaled. Thus avoid breathing through your mouth and instead only breathe through your nose.
  5. Take your medications: Create an effective plan of action to be followed in case of an asthmatic attack and get regular check-ups throughout the season. If you notice your symptoms worsening as the weather gets colder, talk to a doctor about changing your medication and its dosage. Do not skip your medication or stop it unless your doctor tells you to.

Hello, myself junad here, I will smoke 10 cigrets daily but ny family doesn't no about this. I am facing max coughing in aproxx 4 weeks in every month. Wht should I do.

BHMS
Homeopath,
Dear lybrate user, it will be much better if you can quit smoking. You may need a bit of willpower to stop smoking permanently. You could easily abstain yourself from smoking during the initial 2-3 days. But after few days of abstaining from smoking you will feel a strong craving to smoke a cigarette whenever you face any tense situation. Here lies your real test. You will need a lot of willpower to resist that craving & face any tense situation without the help of nicotine. However, you can take homoeopathic mother tincture daphne indica q, 30 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water. This medicine will help to reduce your craving for nicotine. To minimise the bad-effects of smoking take one single bulb garlic everyday at morning before brushing your teeth.

For back pain only sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. For emergency treatment contacts your nearest hospital or family doctor. MS - ENT

If ct is confirming sinusitis I suggest to try intra nasal steroids for few months and if not responding then you can go for surgery but before trying any if above better start treatment for migraine. Because many times its the disease confused for sinus headache.

I am suffering from dry cough for the last 3 weeks and I have chest pain whenever I cough hard. Can you suggest what should be done?

DNB (Respiratory Diseases), MD - Tuberculosis & Respiratory Diseases / Pulmonary Medicine, Diploma in Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases (DTCD)
Allergist/Immunologist, Thrissur
I am suffering from dry cough for the last 3 weeks and I have chest pain whenever I cough hard. Can you suggest what ...
Just dru cough alone for 3 weeks can be due to 1. After a common cold or viral fever; the fever may go unnoticed but leaves behind a dry cough which will resolve over a few more weeks or turn to wheezy cough. 2. A dry cough may be a sign of allergic asthma without wheezing . This occurs during season change or on exposure to allergens like dust; cold air etc. 3. Do not smoke. It prevents a common cold getting resolved fast. 4. There are no serious illnesses which present as dry cough for 3 weeks. So there is no reason to be over apprehensive. 5. Chest pain is because we mainly cough with our chest muscles. So they get sprained by hard cough. As there is no sputum ; try some cough suppresant syrups if needed. 6. Hot fomentation or hot water bath 3 times will relax the chest muscles. 7. Paracetamol is also OK .
