You can. But if there is fluid restriction, try to adjust with the free fluid quantity. Chicken soup can be taken but I don't know what other liquids you are planning to give. If there's no restrictions and there are no symptoms like swelling of feet or face, you can give fluids in moderation.

This is not any disease as such. Avoid drinking lots of water before going to bed. Always make sure to urinate before going to bed. Stop taking water atleast one hour prior to bed. Get your blood sugar checked. May in addition form a habit of setting an alarm to go to toilet early morning in the middle of your sleeping hours.

I am 42 years old and for the past two year I noticed there is a pungent smell in my urine. I had done blood test and urine routine checkup but can't find any problem except my spgt value of blood is 72 (max limit 70 unite). I used to take alcohol 3 peg - twice a week. Please let me know your opinion about the probable reason?

FIMSA, MD-Nephrology, DM - Nephrology, Critical Care Medicine, MBBS

The smell is due to concentarated urine. Increase water intake to about 3litres daily. Stop consuming alcohol, tobacco, paan masala, excessive coffee/tea.

Hi, prevention of kidney stones may include a combination of lifestyle changes and medications. Lifestyle changes you may reduce your risk of kidney stones if you: drink water throughout the day. For people with a history of kidney stones, drink 12-14 glasses of water everyday. If you live in a hot, dry climate or you exercise frequently, you may need to drink even more water to produce enough urine. If your urine is light and clear, you're likely drinking enough water. 1 eat fewer oxalate-rich foods. If you tend to form calcium oxalate stones, restrict foods rich in oxalates. These include rhubarb, beets, bhindi (okra), spinach, swiss chard, sweet potatoes, nuts, tea, chocolate and soy products. Choose a diet low in salt and animal protein. Reduce the amount of salt you eat and choose non animal protein sources, such as legumes. Consider using a salt substitute. Continue eating calcium-rich foods, but use caution with calcium supplements. Calcium in food doesn't have an effect on your risk of kidney stones. Continue eating calcium-rich foods unless your doctor advises otherwise. Ask your doctor before taking calcium supplements, as these have been linked to increased risk of kidney stones. You may reduce the risk by taking supplements with meals. Diets low in calcium can increase kidney stone formation in some people. Medication: can take homoeopathic medicine if the size of the stones is smaller - berberis vulgaris q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice daily for 4 weeks. Revert.

Healthy Prostate - 5 Things You Must Ensure

Healthy Prostate - 5 Things You Must Ensure

The prostate gland, an essential part of the male reproductive system grows throughout your life. As you grow older, it becomes imperative to keep this organ healthy.

Here's what you can do to maintain a healthy prostate:

1. Workout to stay fit: Exercising regularly and maintaining an optimum weight can help to keep your prostate gland at an optimal health. Several types of research have revealed the beneficial aspects of exercising. It's said that physically active men are less likely to suffer from enlarged prostate if they performed a physical activity of low to moderate intensity. Likewise, physically active men who ran for 90 to 108 minutes are 20% less likely to develop erectile dysfunction.

2. Eat fruits and vegetables: Including fruits and vegetables in your diet can help to maintain a healthy prostate. Guava, papaya, tomato and watermelon are some of the options that spell good for your prostate. Vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and Brussels sprouts should also be included to boost the health of the gland. Ideally, you should have about 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily.

3. Have more soy products: Eating more soy products like tofu, soy flour, soy nuts can help to keep cancer of the prostate at bay. A study published in the British Journal of Urology International revealed that men who had soy products saw a 40% decrease in their risk of developing an enlarged prostate.

4. Have selenium-rich foods: Having foods rich in selenium (a powerful trace mineral) like tuna, eggs, cashews, onions, garlic, etc can reduce your risk of developing prostate cancer.

5. Say yes to healthy fats and no to trans and saturated fats: Choosing healthy fats like avocados, nuts, and olive oil can aid in boosting prostate health. At the same time, limiting saturated fats and trans fat intake are vital for keeping the prostate gland healthy. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an urologist.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Frequent urination could be due to urinary tract infection, get urineRE/ME done & if bacteria present then culture & antibiotic sensitivity test done if you have not got these tests done earlier - restrict intake of water from 2-3 hours before bedtime, do not consume caffeinated drinks, tea, coffee after three or four O clock in the afternoon, avoid alcohol if you consume - some high fibre foods like fruits & vegetables also may irritate the bladder & cause frequent urination - since your basic reports are normal, observe your dietary & fluid consumption habits if they are contributing to your problem.

Tips for removing kidney stones:: 1. Avoid tea, coffee, alcohol, cold drinks, pickles, fish, poultry, meat, spinach, and chocolate. 2. Avoid sour, heavy, and dry food. 3. Increase intake of liquids like water, juice, soup, lime water lemon soda etc. 4. Be sure to drink enough water each day. Usually 1 to 2 liters of water per day is adequate. 5. Drink more if you are perspiring heavily, working outdoors, the weather is hot, etc. 6. Increase the use of barley, horse gram (a type of bean), ginger, and brown rice or parboiled rice. 7. Avoid suppressing urges to urinate and defecate. 9. Boil 10-12 basil leaves in 1 cup of water for 15 minutes. Mix 1 teaspoon of honey in it and take twice a day. Pls send ur USG report becoz medication for stones depends upon size number and location of stones and can be given after USG.

I am 29 years old female and having burning sensation in anus after passing stool for the past 2 weeks. What should I do?

Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), MS - Urology, MBBS

Dear , I think your problem is anal fissure which is either due to severe diarrhoea or to passage of hard faeces. So you need to concentrate on constipation and treat that. Remember it is not a disease but a lifestyle problem.
