I am 25 year old male and have backache for last 2 month. I have used pain relief ointment cream for couple of day but haven't got any relief. What should I do now?

MS - Orthopaedics, MBBS
Orthopedist, Pune
Hello lybrate-user,  Back pain that is associated with day time sedentary jobs like computer professional s are associated with paraspinal muscle spasms. The best way to tackle this sort of pain is to do well spaced Stretching exercises of the back, back extension exercises, using hot water bags to provide relief and avoiding stooping posture while sitting. Posture also plays a very important part in back pain, always maintain a straight posture while sitting. While getting up from the bed try to first go on your left or right side of the body and get up side ways. Avoid Cruntches or Sit-ups: they may increase the pressure on your back and may predispose to Slip Disc. Always maintain a healthy Lifestyle in terms of regular brisk walking, meditation, eating healthy. P. S: Try to avoid pain killers (Analgesics) as much as possible as many are associated with Side effects that you may not be aware of. Stay Healthy. Stay Happy God bless you.

Hi. I am a 25 years old male and have backache for last 2 months. What should I do?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You should not be having persistent back pain, please elaborate your problem in detail as to whether there is any pain radiating down in legs and any other symptoms like numbness, paraesthesia, weakness in legs etc do you feel fever, weight loss, loss of apetite etc if you have localized back pain, you can start with - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. Get back to me in case your symptoms do not get better in 2-3 weeks time. Actually I will advise for dynamic x rays of your back if you are not improving with conservative management after 2-3 weeks time. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Hand Surgery, M.S. (Orthopaedics

Dear you probably have a muscle problem. The hamstrings can give pain on getting up and down. Foot pain may be due to planter fasciitis or any other muscle of the foot. Apply ice and give rest to the muscle maybe yoga can help. If not relieved you need detailed evaluation and imaging to come to a diagnosis.

Goodmorning what I would suggest to you is to start with a few active exercises. You could do a few pendular exercises for the shoulder. The hot water fermentation and a cold water fermentation will help a lot. Please do take a session of 10 days of physio for your shoulder. This will reduce your pain. Please do get back to me.

Frozen Shoulder - Why Physiotherapy Is Crucial For It?

Frozen Shoulder - Why Physiotherapy Is Crucial For It?

Frozen shoulder is a condition when somebody encounters continuous shoulder stiffness and pain. It could last for weeks. It is likely to occur when swelling increases around the shoulder which reduces inability to move or stretch properly. This ordinarily happens when somebody is recovering from an injury. Frozen shoulder at times happens when somebody is wearing a sling or a cast. It also occurs, if someone is recovering from surgery, experiencing joint pain or facing restraint of movement for other reasons.

A frozen shoulder can go on from a couple of months to as much as 3 years and the precise cause is unknown. Physiotherapy is often to treat this condition. It has been found that posture plays a huge part in your recovery from a frozen shoulder. The urgent goal is to get the shoulder join moving once again. The sooner this is done, the better are the odds of a quick recovery. Anti-inflammatory medicines, heat application and delicate stretching activities are performed with the assistance of a physiotherapist.

Physiotherapy is very crucial for a frozen shoulder since it is very difficult to get movement in the stiff joint without any exercise, stretching or other methods used by a physiotherapist. It is mostly crucial to get physiotherapy to:

  1. To reduce pain in the shoulder
  2. To increase the flexibility and strength of the shoulder
  3. To enhance movement of the shoulder.
  4. To increase endurance of the muscles

Physiotherapy treatment for a frozen shoulder depends on the stage you are on and is customized according to the needs of your condition. Physiotherapy treatments for a frozen shoulder include:

  1. Pain relief: Pain diminishing techniques including gentle shoulder movement exercises, muscle releases, needle therapy, dry needling and kinesiology taping for pain can help during the painful swelling phase.
  2. Defrosting: Shoulder mobilization and stretching are the best in order to achieve a full shoulder recovery. As your scope of movement increases, your physiotherapist will then be able to give you muscle strengthening exercises to control and keep up your recently found range of movement.
  3. Warm Up: Before beginning shoulder exercises for a frozen shoulder, try to warm up your shoulder keeping in mind the end goal. That is to help blood supply in the affected area and avoid future injuries. The best approach is to extend and warm up the shoulder by applying heat for 10 to 15 minutes, scrubbing down or showering with Epsom salt.

Physiotherapy does not bring out immediate results, but gradually. Flexibility will increase gradually. One should keep in mind, not to stretch their shoulder too quickly at once. This can lead to a ligament tear. The exercises should be tender and gradual. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a physiotherapist.

Get your vitamin and calcium levels checked. Eating fresh fruits will help. You can take simple analgesics. Physiotherapy will be good for your knees. If the pain persists see an orthopedic surgeon.

Am 51 years old male, weigh 68 kgs and height 5'9. I have undergone vasectomy 16 years back. Is there any ayurvedic medicine to increase semen and ojas.

After vasectomy, you can have normal sex and there will be normal semen discharge but sperms will not be there. If you want to become father again, then no medicines can help. Only option is vasectomy reversal and that's a form of surgery.

Dear you are suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee joints. You will have to reduce your weight drastically by what ever means (consult a dietician). You must change your life style. Use a commode and avoid stairs. Learn exercises from a physiotherapist and spare time for doing them as you spare time for bathing, pooja or eating. They are simple and can be done any where. Even in office and while waiting for bus or metro. Do hot fomentation and apply a pain killer gel and support your knees with 6" crepe bandages 2 for each knee. Take a sachet of collaflex for about 3 months and a pain killer sos. If of no avail. Consult an ortho. Surgeon and get investigated and x-rayed. Take care.
