Mr. Lybrate-user t1 & t2 diabetes in the long term produce same complications like: retinopathy, nephroppathy, neuropathy, erectile dysfunction, dyslipidemia, coronary artery diseases, diabetic foot problems. In t1 there may be severe hypoglycemic episodes as well as diabetic keto acidosis, due to very high blood glucose level, this is a medical emergency. T1 is an autoimmune disease, can not be prevented. T2 which is a familial disease can be prevented by adapting a modified lifestyle, meaning taking a balanced but restricted diet, avoiding sweets, junk foods, aerated sugary drinks, pastries, high fat milk products, deep fried foods, highly processed foods and fructose corn syrup containing foods. Plus regular exercise for at least 1 hour a day and maintaining near normal body weight is also important. Also refrain from alcohol and smoking. Dietary intake should be based on ideal body weight and extent of daily workouts. Consuming good deal of green leafy vegetables is essential.

For early lumbar spondylitis what preventive care should be taken and what simple exercise we should do for that?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Bundi
In my opinion cervical support by way of collar for 2- 3 times a day for 15-30 minutes each suffices. Some neck muscle strengthening exercises will be of advantage helping the cervical vertebrae maintain proper inter vertebral spaces and releasing any pressure on nerves. Specifically ayurvedic way, you should also avoid' vatkarak' food.

Mr. Lybrate-user, by and large sildenafil has been found to be fairly safe even on long term use. A number clinical trials have shown it to be effective in producing erection even after use of over a number of years and safe enough. However, occasionally some side effects are observed with regard to vision, hearing, cardiovascular and bleeding episodes. Usage has to be done when absolutely needed. Thanks.

I am loosing my memory day by day, I don't remember whatever I learnt or studied, should I check my neurons, please guide me. Give me solutions.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
No need to check anything but you could examine the following and put them into practice: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem-solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning, at least, five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position, you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There is some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food.

I have got long problem late night sleep and while I am in bed my mind rotting around.

BHMS

I have got long problem late night sleep and while I am in bed my mind rotting around.
Hi, there are two types of insomnia: primary insomnia and secondary insomnia. Primary insomnia: primary insomnia means that a person is having sleep problems that are not directly associated with any other health condition or problem. Secondary insomnia: secondary insomnia means that a person is having sleep problems because of something else, such as a health condition (like asthma, depression, arthritis, cancer, or heartburn); pain; medication they are taking; or a substance they are using (like alcohol). Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout your life. Getting enough quality sleep at the right times can help protect your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety. In children and teens, sleep also helps support growth and development. The damage from sleep deficiency can occur in an instant (such as a car crash), or it can harm you over time. For example, ongoing sleep deficiency can raise your risk for some chronic health problems. It also can affect how well you think, react, work, learn, and get along with others. Management: here are five tips everyone can use to help improve the quality of their sleep: keep your bedroom cool and dark put away/turn off all electronic devices while preparing for bedtime stick to a regular bedtime and wake time every day, even on weekends stop drinking caffeine by the early afternoon and avoid large late-night meals skip the late-afternoon nap, as it can make it harder to sleep at bedtime avoid taking unnecessary stress/ tension. Do regular exercise. Go for a brisk walk in the morning. Medication: take schwabe's bacopa monierri 1x/ thrice daily and kali phos./ once daily at night for 1 month.

I have lower abdomen pain since last one year. Sometime I feel cramp also. I am taking pain killer. Apart from this please suggest me what should I do?

BHMS
Homeopath, Raebareli
Please note that you should do a USG whole abdomen first to understand the diagnosis of the pain-in abdomen. If the pain is at the time of motions then it could be dysentery -- in that case do a Stool R/E done. Do not take pain-killer by yourself. Please note the following recommendation for your conditions: Enjoy a Cup of Chamomile Tea -- Pour boiling water over a teabag and cover your mug, letting it steep for 10 minutes. If using dried chamomile, place 1-2 teaspoons in a mug and cover with boiling water. Cover the mug and let steep for 15-20 minutes. Sip slowly. Use a “Hot” Pack-- Find a place to lie down, and rest the hot pack on your belly. It should be a comfortable temperature, but definitely warm. Do this for at least 15 minutes, or as long as you need to, reheating as necessary. For further queries get back to me.
