General Physician,
Experts recommend that lifestyle changes should be added to medication therapy when people with diabetes try to reduce their blood pressure. These changes include reduction of salt intake, weight loss, and moderately intense physical activity, like brisk walking for 30 to 45 minutes most days of the week. A study in 2002 found that 19.3 million American adults had diabetes, and it is estimated that a third of these adults are undiagnosed. Risk factors for diabetes include advancing age, obesity or being overweight, a family history of type 2 diabetes, and being a member of a minority population at increased risk. African-Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, American Indians, Alaska natives, and Asians are at higher risk for type 2 diabetes. It is estimated that an additional 26% of the US adult population has "pre-diabetes" and modification of some risk factors, like weight or sedentary lifestyle, may help these adults avoid development of diabetes. The American Diabetes Association recommends that people have a fasting plasma glucose test for an initial screening test. A positive test is determined by a level of blood glucose of greater than 126 mg/dL. If you have a positive fasting glucose test, your doctor may want to confirm it on a separate day with a repeat test. If your test results are "borderline" you may also want to have the test repeated on a separate occasion. There are several different screening tests to determine if you are at risk of diabetes or if you have diabetes. Each test has different advantages and disadvantages. If you have hypertension, your doctor should screen you for glucose intolerance or type 2 diabetes. There is adequate evidence that people with blood pressure above 135/80 mm Hg who have diabetes discovered through a screening program will benefit from the strict blood pressure control strategies indicated for diabetic patients to reduce coronary heart disease.
The available evidence suggests that all adults with high blood pressure readings that are consistently greater than 135/80 mm Hg benefit from tighter control of risk factors associated with diabetes for prevention of coronary heart disease.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Symptoms like weakness, breathing difficulty and chest pain can be due to heart problem or there could be conditions like anemia, improper nutrition etc. First and foremost is she should achieve a strict blood glucose control with FBG <100 mg, PP 160 to 180 mg & HbA1c%<7. If this is not achieved then excess loss of glucose through urine itself can lead to weakness and tired feeling. In your communication there is absolutely no mention about her diabetes treatment, drugs and dosage or her fasting, PP glucose levels and HbA1c%. Hence it is very difficult to understand the situation. Thanks.

My dad is suffering with heart problem. Already he has suggested to use stunts and then bypass.
It has to be either stent or bypass, not both, if 1 vessel is blocked, stent is the answer, if more blocks, bypass surgery is solution that lasts for a long years, with advancement in technology, mortality rate is less than 1 %

Omega 3 Supplement and Cholesterol

Omega 3 Supplement and Cholesterol
Omega 3 has tremendous benefits on the heart health. It works as anti - inflammatory. Several studies show that fish oil reduces triglyceride levels. Walnuts, rich in alpha linolenic acid or ala, can convert to omega-3s in the body thus lower total cholesterol and triglycerides in people with high cholesterol levels.

If you're taking a statin drug to lower your cholesterol, fish oil provides added heart benefits. A large japanese study showed 19% fewer heart-related events (like heart attack) in adults taking a fish oil supplement plus a statin drug, compared with those taking only a statin.

Raised blood pressure is not a disease in itself. It is just a sign of some underlying disorder. Homeopathy offers good prognosis for cases of essential hypertension. The treatment is based upon the cause and the totality of the case. A constitutional homoeopathic treatment will cure you permanently. Joint pain can be caused by a number of issues, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, bursitis, tendinitis or a strain, sprain or other injury affecting the ligaments, bursae or tendons surrounding a joint. It can occur in any part of the body but is most common in the knees, shoulders and hips. The pain can range from mild to severe and may be accompanied by swelling and stiffness in one or more joints. Severe joint pain, especially when caused by degenerative conditions like arthritis, needs proper diagnosis and treatment. You should also consult your doctor if your joint pain is accompanied by swelling, redness and tenderness, or lasts for more than three days. But, you can get rid of mild joint pain with the help of natural home remedies. Cayenne cayenne pepper contains a compound called capsaicin with natural analgesic or pain-relieving properties. In a 2010 study published in the journal of the medical association of thailand, researchers found that applying gel containing 0.0125 percent capsaicin helped relieve mild to moderate pain in women suffering from knee osteoarthritis? slightly heat one-half cup of coconut oil. Mix in two tablespoons of cayenne pepper powder. Apply it on the affected area, leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse it off. Do this a few times a day until you get relief from the pain? alternatively, you can use a capsaicin cream topically on the affected area daily. Note: cayenne may initially cause a burning sensation. Do not apply it on open skin or wounds. Garlic being rich in sulfur and selenium, garlic is beneficial for those suffering from arthritis and joint pain. Sulfur helps relieve joint pain and inflammation and, according to research, selenium may have an antirheumatic effect. Also, arthritic patients tend to have low levels of selenium in the blood? include raw or cooked garlic in your diet. You can safely consume two or three garlic cloves daily. If you are deterred by the smell or taste of garlic, consider taking garlic supplements (follow the directions on the label). You can also fry two garlic cloves in two tablespoons of mustard or sesame oil. When the garlic cloves turn black, turn off the heat and strain the oil. Allow the oil to cool until it is comfortably warm, and then massage it into the skin around affected area. Leave it on for about three hours before washing it off. Do this twice daily until you see improvement for treatment consult privately any queries inform me.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help for your mother. Well, her hypertension needs to be controlled as otherwise it can damage the kidneys. I would advise that you consult a nephrologist who can monitor not only her kidney health but also recommend treatment as appropriate to control high BP. Long term usage of analgesics are best avoided. She can apply 'Rumalaya Gel' topically 2 to 3 times daily, followed by heat treatment for 15 - 20 minutes, preferably with a hot water bag or heating pad as appropriate. She needs to streamline her diet & lifestyle, avoid high calorie foods including fast foods etc all and stay well hydrated unless her doc advises otherwise. Sugar and salt needs to be restricted on a day to day basis. Additionally, she should de-stress/ walk regularly and stay relaxed. Hope this helps. Take care and all the very best. Sincerely

What is the symptoms of angina pectoris and what is the treatment for angina pectoris.
Recurring pain on left side of heart which is not severe. Treatment is tablet sorbitrate to be put under the tongue and not to be swallowed. Soluble aspirin tablet also helps. Angina doesn't cause damage to heart muscle but person should get examined for blockages in blood vessels of heart to know the further course of treatment depending upon the numbers of blockages and extent of blockages. Either baloon therapy or a bypass heart surgery. One cannot go on suffering from angina.
