Vomiting in Pregnancy - Is It More Than Just Morning Sickness?

Vomiting in Pregnancy - Is It More Than Just Morning Sickness?

Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is an extreme type of morning sickness. It is a pregnancy related queasiness and additionally painful at times. It can stop proper intake of food and other nourishments in your system which would affect the growing baby within, as well. Affecting around one to three percent of ladies, HG can lead to weight reduction, lack of healthy food intake and dehydration. In extreme cases, it can lead to unnatural birth cycle and, it can at times, be lethal.
Certain reasons can expand a woman’s odds of having serious morning sickness during pregnancy. Notwithstanding, having a family history of the condition, the following can put a woman at risk:

  1. The conceiving amount (twins, triplets, and so on.)
  2. History of motion sickness in general
  3. A headache or migraines with nausea

The queasiness or nausea can be so extreme at times that it can affect both, the mother as well as the baby. The powerlessness to not being able to eat the proper nourishment makes it difficult for the woman to meet her health and nutrient needs. Subsequently, she may get weaker. Furthermore, lost liquids, combined with the loss of stomach acid that happens during pregnancy, can bring about the lack of hydration and cause a complicated pregnancy.

In case a woman does not get treatment, it can bring about numerous complexities, including organ failure and the untimely birth of the infant. It is critical to talk to the specialist if a pregnant woman has any of the following indications:

  1. Sickness that continues throughout the day, making it difficult to eat or drink
  2. Vomiting that happens three to four times each day or losing one’s appetite
  3. Vomit that has blood or dashes of blood in it
  4. Weight reduction
  5. Black out or unsteadiness
  6. Diminished urine
  7. Fast heart rate
  8. Continuous migraine
  9. Parched mouth
  10. Extreme weakness

Medications that are normally used for morning sickness, for example, eating dry saltines in the morning might be suggested for women with extreme morning sickness. Treatments for this condition may include:

  1. A brief time of not eating by mouth to rest the gastrointestinal framework
  2. Intravenous (IV) liquids
  3. Vitamin and nourishing supplements

In case it is extreme, the pregnant lady might get a prescription to stop the vomiting, either by mouth or through an IV. The specialist may suggest eating foods with ginger or taking vitamin B6 supplements to mitigate sickness. The following can likewise offer assistance:

  1. Following a bland diet
  2. Eating regular little meals
  3. Drinking a lot of liquids when not feeling nauseous
  4. Staying away from hot and greasy foods
  5. Eating high-protein snacks
  6. Staying away from tactile boosts that can act as triggers

Therefore, morning sickness or vomiting is not always to be taken lightly during pregnancy. One should always consult a specialist when going through the same in an extreme way.

At your age menopause is very likely what is producing all those symptoms. Bp will vary and I wouldn' t worry about it. You will very likely need medication to ease the rigors of menopause and medication with homeopathy will ensure a hassle free transition. Do let me know what you decide. Dr. J tikari

MBBS, PG Diploma in HIV Medicine
General Physician,
Good day lybrate-user. Read your question completely and need little more information. At what day of the cycle the act taken place, did you take ipill with in 72 hours, when was the pregnancy test performed. Ovum releases on 14 or15th day of a regular menstrual cycle and servives only for 12-24 hrs. Sperm once deposited can survive upto 4-5 days inside the uterus. So to become pregnant the act of intercourse must take place from 10th-18th day of a regular cycle from the first day of the mensuratuion. Before and after to that the chances of getting pregnancy are less likely. This phenomenon is accepted by most of the people and it changes a little with every individual. To test pregnancy at home you must wait till your date misses and the result will become more accurate if you wait more. Ultrasound abdomen also helps Anxiety of the pregnancy can delay your date. Ipill also can delay the monthly cycles. So try to stay calm and try to memorize the dates of the events Don't take medication with out proper prescription. Consult a obstetrician for complete information and management. If you still need further assistance please contact.

Mommy Makeover

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, M.Ch - Plastic Surgery, Fellowship in Aesthetic Surgery, MRCS

Mommy Makeover

Bringing a child into this world is one of the most wonderful phases of a woman's life. At the same time, this involves a lot of body changes - physiologically, physically, chemically, and emotionally.
Mommy makeover refers to one or a combination of procedures that are done to alter the appearance after delivery, especially relating to one or more of the following:

  1. Tummy that is sagging (no fat, just loose skin) with stretch marks
  2. Breasts that are altered in size and shape, sometimes the enlargement could be completely disproportionate with the body and cause back pain
  3. Undefined thick waistline with irregular fat accumulation
  4. Fat deposits on the abdomen, thighs, hips, and trunk that do not reduce with dietary changes and exercise
  5. Skin changes on the face and around the eyes, giving an aged appearance
  6. Post cesarean, there is excessive skin around the surgical scar

Pros:

  1. Reduces tummy size
  2. Gives a more youthful appearance
  3. Alters breasts to the desired shape and size

Cons:

  1. Weight loss, if happens, could affect the results
  2. Subsequent pregnancies don't have any complications with tummy tuck but with another pregnancy the effects may be lessened or reversed.
  3. Since surgery is involved, the risk of unforeseen complications always exists (for instance, in breast implants, there is capsule formation or capsulitis, in rare cases rupture may require removal.)

Mommy makeover is not a single step procedure, but a combination of plastic surgical procedures that are done depending on the problem you present with.

  • Tummy tuck - If there is abdominal sagging, the tummy is tucked back into position by removing the fat and excessive skin and reworking on the belly button.
  • Liposuction - Excessive fat deposits in the hips, thighs, trunk area can be removed by sucking out the fat deposits. Most commonly done in the hips and trunk area.
  • Breast lift - Sagging uneven breasts, drooping nipples, reduced volume are all indications for a breast lift. During the surgery, the breast tissue is repositioned to reproduce a better shape and size and reposition the nipples if required.
  • Breast reduction - Large breasts are a common problem, and breast reduction is one of the most requested for procedures.
  • Breast augmentation - Either saline implants or silicone are used to restore breast size and shape to the desired results. Usually, breast lift is combined with breast augmentation.
  • Facial corrections - From dark circles to sagging skin to wrinkles, facial appearance can be changed based on the presenting symptoms.

These are very brief descriptions of the various procedures that are done as part of mummy makeover. A detailed consultation with your plastic surgeon regarding costs, subsequent pregnancies, aftercare, recovery, healing, and limitations and risks is to be had ahead of the surgery.

Hi doctor, I am 31 year old. My menstrual cycle had become irregular since last year since I got married. Sometimes in two months it comes. I face huge problem when it starts. I am planning to have baby please suggest what can I do to come out of this problem. My hb is 9. 5 and I have started cycling too to reduce weight and increase resistance power

Diploma in homeopathy, B. Sc

Your menstrual cycle can be corrected. The pain also can be controlled, but your weight problem will take a lot of determination - only cycling won't do at all. Every pound of extra weight inversely decreases your chances of pregnancy. I have charts. Fancy charts, but what it basically comes down to is the amount and type of food you put in your mouth. Sorry if that sounds rude - but I only wish to convey the very serious determination you require to slim down. Of course there is the gambogia fruit. Rs 3000 for a bottle, but I am told it really works.

4 Proven Ways of Getting Rid of Dark Circles

MBBS, MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy

4 Proven Ways of Getting Rid of Dark Circles

4 Proven ways of getting rid of dark circles

If your eyes have dark circles under them, then it surely points towards an unhealthy and hectic lifestyle. Dark circles not only have a negative effect on your appearance, but are also an indication of various underlying health problems such as poor sleeping patterns, allergies to certain foods or substances, asthma and anaemia to name a few. However, the good news is that you can easily get rid of dark circles and under eye puffiness by following a few simple remedies.

1. Cover your eyelids with cucumber or potato slices for a few minutes daily

Cucumber is known to be a natural skin lightening agent and even acts as a mild astringent (substances that cause body tissues to shrink), helping in removing dark circles. Moreover, applying cucumber on your eyes will give you a soothing and rejuvenated feeling. On the other hand, potatoes have bleaching properties, which make them effective against dark circles and puffiness of the eyes.

Directions: Slice a fresh cucumber and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Cover your eyelids with the thick slices and let them remain there for 10 minutes. Use cool water to rinse the area around your eyes. Do this two times a day for about a week.

Alternatively, you can use potato slices in the same way for your eyes. The only difference is that you don’t need to chill the potatoes.

2. Try soothing your eyes using cool tea bags

Tannin is an active ingredient of tea, which is known for eliminating skin discoloration. Moreover, application of cold tea bags over closed eyes reduces fatigue and cools your eyes. You can use them one or two times every day for a few weeks to eliminate dark circles completely.

Directions: Take 2 tea bags and soak them in water. Keep them in the refrigerator for some time till they get chilled. Put one tea bag on each eye and leave for 10-15 minutes. Rinse your eyes after removing the tea bags.

Tip: For best results use chamomile or green tea bags.

3. Ensure that your facial muscles get some exercise daily

Exercising your facial muscles regularly helps in accelerating the body’s natural blood flow, thereby improving your skin tone and removing dark circles and puffiness of the eyes.

Directions: Gently start massaging the area around your eyes with the tips of your fingers using circular movements. Continue by proceeding towards the top of your eyebrows. Move your fingers under your eyes and at the upper portion of your cheekbones. Then gently stroke the area under your eyes with your index fingers. Repeat the entire process 4 times.

4. Include yoga or meditation in your daily routine

Dark circles are often caused by factors like chronic stress and a hectic lifestyle. Practicing yoga and meditation regularly helps in beating dark circles as it reduces stress by keeping your body, mind and soul calm. Moreover, meditation relaxes you completely and ensures a healthy lifestyle, which further diminishes the prominence of dark circles.

Poly cystic overy syndrome or PCOD is mainly a problem related to harmone (excess production of androgen in females) which leads to varierty of signs and symptoms. It manifest as number of small cysts in the ovaries, menstrual irrgularties such as irregular, delayed or no menstrual cycles, obesity and weight gain, acne and excess growth of facial and bodily hairs at the same time hair fall on scalp, in the same pattern which occures in males (Hirsutism) and insulin resiistance are some of the common one. PCOD is curable in Homeopathy but you have to be little patience as treatment of PCOD is takes little time to cure. Conventional method of treatment hardly have any cure for PCOD. Homeopathy offers the best alternative because Homeopathy focuses on treating the root cause of the problem without any side effects. Along with Homeopathic medicines whatever she is using I will suggest her followings lifestyle modifications: 1.Avoid eating non veg completely. 2.Take less of Urad dal items such as idli, vada etc 3.can start taking walnut or flax seeds 4.take green tea on daily basis 5.start doing some de stressing activity daily for at least 10-15 minutes.

Cradle Cap

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health
Pediatrician, Hyderabad
Cradle Cap

What is cradle cap?

Cradle cap (infant seborrheic dermatitis) is scaly patches on a baby's scalp. Cradle cap isn’t serious, but it can cause thick crusting and white or yellow scales. Some babies can also have seborrheic dermatitis in the diaper area, and on the face, neck, and trunk. Cradle cap usually clears up within the first year.

What causes cradle cap?

Researchers don't know the exact cause of this skin condition.  It is not contagious. It is not an infection or allergy. It is not caused by poor hygiene.

Which children are at risk for cradle cap?

Babies between the ages of 3 weeks and 12 months are at greater risk of getting cradle cap.

What are the symptoms of cradle cap?

Symptoms can occur a bit differently in each child. They can include dry or greasy scales on the scalp. The scalp may also appear red. It usually does not itch.

How is cradle cap diagnosed?

Cradle cap is usually diagnosed based on a physical exam of your child. The rash involved with cradle cap is unique. It can usually be diagnosed by a physical exam.

How is cradle cap treated?

Treatment will depend on your child’s symptoms, age, and general health. It will also depend on how severe the condition is.

The problem will go away on its own over time. But most parents prefer treatment because it usually helps reduce or get rid of the problem. Even with treatment, the problem may come back during the baby’s first year of life. Treatment is usually effective in helping symptoms. It may include:

  • Special shampoo, as prescribed by your child’s healthcare provider

  • Corticosteroid cream or lotion for a short period of time if the problem is really bad or persistent

What can I do to prevent cradle cap in my child?

Cradle cap is common in young babies and does not point to poor hygiene or lack of care. The following may help prevent the buildup of scales on the scalp:

  • Use a soft bristled brush to remove the scales from the scalp.

  • Shampoo baby’s hair often.

  • Apply baby oil to the scalp after shampooing.

When should I call my child’s healthcare provider?

Most cases of cradle cap can be treated at home. If the problem doesn’t get better, you may ask your healthcare provider to prescribe an appropriate shampoo or cream. If the problem still does not get better with the prescribed medicine, tell your healthcare provider.

Key points about cradle cap

  • Cradle cap is scaly patches on a baby’s scalp.

  • Babies between ages 3 weeks and 12 months are at greater risk of getting cradle cap.

  • The problem will go away over time.

  • Most cases of cradle cap can be treated at home by using a soft-bristled brush, frequent shampooing, and applying baby oil.
