If I do go for clinics they are trying to sell a spectacle rather than suggesting a tab and I am not willing to wear specs. Thanks in advance Regards,

Working on laptops will not change your eye power. It is true that it leads to dryness of the eyes which can result in redness, burning, watering and sometimes blurring of vision which can cause eye pain or headache. For dryness (also known as computer vision syndrom) you have to blink frequently and to relax every 20 minutes looking at 20 feet distance for 20 secs (20-20-20 rule. And lubricant eye drops. For eye power you have to glasses or contact lenses if you want to avoid glasses. But no tablet can improve eyesight.

I am a student, I have to study a lot. So how can I care my eyes without any problems.
You can study as much as you want, problem is when you have irritation, headache, loss of concentration while reading. Still the time you can give a gap of 3-5 min after every 30 min of continuous reading to break the fusion of the eye muscles.

Eyelid Surgery - Using Eyelid Spacer Grafts

M.Ch (Plastic)
Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon, Chennai
Eyelid Surgery - Using Eyelid Spacer Grafts

Eyelid spacer grafts are widely used by cosmetic surgeons for treating abnormalities in the lower eyelid. Spacer grafts are surgically used for tectonic support. Spacer grafts are scientific and the technology used helps in virally inactivating tissues, and also in the preservation and sterilization of tissues. They are immunologically and biologically safe. Eyelid spacer grafts are commonly used after undergoing a blepharoplasty surgery of the eyelids

When are eyelid spacer grafts used?
Many people have puffy and fat eyelids. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery, which effectively cures such disorders. The process involves removal of extra fat and skin from the lower eyelids and trimming of excess skin. Eyelid retraction is another condition pertaining to the eyelids, where the eyelids look like they have been pulled down. This condition arises from the removal of too much skin during blepharoplasty. Loose ligament support and excess scarring in the eyelids also lead to eyelid retraction. When this condition does not cease in the post- operational period, eyelid spacer grafts may be used.

Benefits of eyelid spacer grafts

  • Eyelid spacer grafts are effective and helpful in a large number of conditions. The major benefit of spacer grafts is to repair lowered eye retraction after carrying out a blepharoplasty surgery.
  • The eyelids are lengthened vertically as a result of using eyelid spacer grafts. This helps in better closure of the lids and also reduces eye irritation in patients.
  • The eyelids are made to look more natural when they are in resting position. Spacer grafts are placed at the back of an eyelid. Thus, they are not visible from the outside.
  • The recovery time after using eyelid spacer grafts is almost the same as most eyelid surgeries in general. The results are usually very effective.
  • Eyelid space grafters are not the only ones used for repairing eyelid retraction, but these are certainly one of the most efficient ones. They give proper support to the lower eyelid, which is required for the proper closure of the eyelids and maintain proper eyelid positioning after a blepharoplasty surgery.
  • Eyelid spacer grafts ensure permanent cure of eyelid retraction, and it is unlikely that this disorder will occur again after eyelid spacer grafts have been used.
  • Eyelid spacer grafts have proven to be one of the best remedies for eyelid retraction, which many people experience after having a blepharoplasty surgery. There are different types of eyelid spacer grafts that will be recommended by your surgeon to correct eyelid retraction, depending on your case. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a cosmetic physician.

I sit in front of pc 10 hrs in a day. Can I get a assistance from you that how can I be look after my eyes and shoulder?
The solution for this problem is its reduced usage and while using computor use in proper light. There is nothing more effective than controlling usage to reduce and negate the effects. You can also reduce the intensity of the computor screen by attaching a filter or by getting an eye-friendly screen. Above all, one must try to reduce the amount of computor usage or take frequent breaks and do neck stretching exercises for 2-3 minutes. The slight redline u see is probably a blood vessel which occurs normal. If u develop eye infection or inflammation they become dilated, prominent and a larger number of them become visible and the eye appears red. There r many causes for a red eye. Also a routine eye examination at least at age of 3. 5, 13, 18, 40 years should be mandatory. In between if everything is normal a repeat evaluation every 2-3 years is recommended. .

Hi, all the chronic problems including ckd never goes to higher stages all of sudden. It passes through stage 1 & 2 initially. You father may have some symptoms which either he ignored or the symptoms were so subtle that he couldn't able to feel them also, a regular thorough check-up is always recommended to every person annually, which your father might have ignored. He can maintain the same stage he is currently in, if he follows a healthy diet and lifestyle. *********consult a nutritionist*****

Types and Treatment for Astigmatism

MBBS, MS - Ophthalmology, Diploma in Ophthalmology , Fellowship in Cornea and Anterior Segment
Ophthalmologist, Ahmedabad
Types and Treatment for Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a typical vision problem that occurs when the shape of the cornea is distorted due to injuries or other causes. With astigmatism, the lenses of the eye or the cornea curves. This irregular curve can change the way light refracts or passes through your retina. This causes hazy, fluffy, or twisted vision. Farsightedness and partial blindness are two different sorts of issues with the way light goes to your retina. Farsightedness is called hyperopia. Partial blindness is called astigmatism.

Types: There are two types of Astigmatisms. These are:

  1. Corneal astigmatism: It happens when your cornea itself is distorted.
  2. Lenticular astigmatism: Lenticular astigmatism happens when your lens is distorted.

Risks: Astigmatism can happen in youngsters and grown-ups. Your danger of creating astigmatism might be higher if you have any of the following:

  1. A family history of astigmatism or other eye issues like dislocation of the cornea.
  2. Scarring or diminishing of your cornea
  3. Excessive partial blindness, which makes foggy vision at a separation
  4. Excessive farsightedness, which makes hazy close-up vision
  5. A past of eye surgeries, for example, cataract surgery (surgical expulsion of a blurred focal point)

Symptoms: The side effects of astigmatism include:

  1. Hazy, Bended, Or Fluffy Vision At All Separations (Close-Up And Far Away)
  2. Trouble seeing during evening
  3. Lazy eye
  4. Squinting
  5. Irritation in the eye
  6. Cerebral Pains

Diagnosis:

  • Visual Acuity Assessment Test: Patients are required to read letters from a graph at a particular distance to decide how well they can see the letters.
  • Refraction Test: A refraction test uses a machine called an optical refractor. The machine has various remedial glass lenses that are used to read an outline while looking through lenses on the optical refractor.

Treatment:

  • Keratometry: Keratometry is a route for your specialist to measure the bend of your cornea. They will do this by taking a look at your eye through a keratometer.
  • Corrective Lenses: Remedial eyeglasses and contact lenses prescribed by a specialist are the most well-known and least obtrusive solution for astigmatism.
  • Orthokeratology: Orthokeratology is a treatment that uses contact lenses to correct the deformation and flow of your cornea. You will wear inflexible contact lenses for certain time-periods. It is easier to wear them while you are sleeping and remove them during the day.

Surgery: Your specialist may suggest refractive surgery if your case is a serious one. This kind of surgery includes use of lasers or little blades to reshape your cornea. This will correct astigmatism permanently. The three basic surgeries for astigmatism are:

  1. Laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK)
  2. Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK)
  3. Spiral keratotomy (RK).

All these surgeries might carry some risks depending upon the symptoms of your problem. As innovation advances, it is very important for the patient to explore more options before choosing which refractive surgery is a good fit for him or her. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a ophthalmologist.

Hello, get your eyes tested from an opthalmologist. Include the following for getting better vision: vitamins a, c, e, and minerals like copper and zinc are essential to eyesight. Get the antioxidants from dark leafy greens, egg yolks, yellow peppers, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Include garlic and onions. Blueberries, grapes as they have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help improve your vision. Dha is a fatty acid found in coldwater fish like salmon, sardines and mackerel. Exercises for strengthening eye muscles: -begin by partially closing your eyes; the lids should only be halfway shut. After holding for 10-15 seconds, close your eyes very slowly. Take a few deep breaths to increase oxygen in the blood. -warm your eyes. Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times. -hold a pen at arm's length. Focus your gaze on the tip of the pen. Bring the pen closer to your nose at a slow and steady pace. Repeat this exercise 5-10 times. -concentrate your vision on the tip of your nose. Then shift your gaze to an object further away, either at arm's length or 20 feet away. Then shift your eyes back to the tip of your nose. Repeat this exercise 10 times. -sit in a relaxed but upright position. Begin by look to the left-most position (without moving your head) and hold to stretch your eye muscles. Hold for 5 counts. Blink and return your gaze back to look straight in front of you. Then look to the right-most position with your gaze and hold for 5 counts. Repeat 3 times, blinking between each hold. Then, repeat this exercise looking up and then down. Do not forget about blinking. -sit in a relaxed but upright position. Look up and to your right for 5 seconds. Return your gaze to center. Look up to and to your left for 5 seconds. Return your gaze to center. Look down and to your right for 5 seconds. Return your gaze to center. Look down and to your left for 5 seconds. Insufficient sleep may weaken your vision, so shoot for 8 hours of sound sleep a night. Rest your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids. Medication: take homoeopathic medicine which will help you in preventing first and then reducing the power of your eyes (if the eye power is less). Take physostigma 6/ thrice daily for 1 month and instill euphrasia eye drops twice a day. Thereafter, revert back for further guidance.

What are the precautions to be taken after completion of retinal surgery and how long?

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
What are the precautions to be taken after completion of retinal surgery and how long?
You should adopt the following precautions after retinal surgery: (1) positioning of the face: if oil/ gas has been implanted into the eye, you would require strict head down/ face down positioning (prone positioning) for as many hours a day as possible. (2) putting drops regularly as advised by the retina specialist. (3) avoid over head bath/ soap application on the face and head for at least 15 days after the surgery. (4) wear protective glasses to protect eyes from sunlight, dust, pollutants, injury, etc. (5) avoid lifting heavy objects (more than 8-10 kgs) (6) avoid any jerky movement of the eyes. (7) if gas has been implanted in the eye, avoid air travel (traveling by airplane) or traveling to high altitudes. (8) avoid smoking/ tobacco chewing life long. Regarding the face down/ head down positioning that I mentioned, it should be done for as many hours as possible in the initial 2 weeks after surgery (if advised by your retina surgeon). After the first 2 weeks, it can be reduced to 4 hours a day for another 2 weeks. Subsequently it may be stopped. Hope my suggestions help you.

My eye power is increasing . Am not seeing objects clearly far from 20 minutes. please instruct me Sir or maim.
There is no medication or food or exercise for improving eyesight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser as your age is 18 years so your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. As you are not comfortable with contact lens then go for lasik. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik carrots can't decrease number of your glasses.

Hello, Get your eyes tested from an Opthalmologist. Bloodshot eyes appear red because the vessels at the surface of the white portion of the eye become swollen. Vessels may swell due to: Eye dryness Too much sun exposure Dust or other particles in the eye Allergies Infection Injury Eye infections or inflammation can cause redness as well as possible itching, discharge, pain, or vision problems. Other causes of eye redness include Colds or allergies, Acute glaucoma, Corneal scratches: Injuries caused by sand, dust, or overuse of contact lenses. Sometimes, a bright red spot, called a subconjunctival hemorrhage, will appear on the white of the eye. This often happens after straining or coughing, which causes a broken blood vessel on the surface of the eye. Most often, there is no pain and your vision is normal. It is almost never a serious problem. Because the blood leaks into the conjunctiva, which is clear, you cannot wipe or rinse the blood away. Like a bruise, the red spot will go away within a week or two. Management: - Try to rest your eyes if redness is due to fatigue or eye strain. No other treatment is needed. - Wash your hands, hold clean water in your hand, keep your eyes closer to the water and dip the eyes by blinking the eyelids frequently in the held water in hand. Repeat it for 3-4 times again. - Avoid watching T. V. Working on computer or mobile, reading or frequently keep blinking your eyes to avoid dryness. Take frequent breaks in between. - In case there is itching, use a clean napkin or a tissue to wipe the tears and cleaning the eyelids gently. -Wear an UV-rays protected sunglasses while you are out in sun. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Schwabe’s Belladonna 30 and Euphrasia 30 - both thrice daily for 4 days. Use Euphrasia Eye drops twice daily. Revert back thereafter.
