I am an 18 year old female who is suffering from some discomfort in my urinary tract. In the middle of February I started having sensations of incomplete and frequent peeing going to the toilet more often than normal. I consumed a herbal Ayurvedic syrup for a few days and my discomfort stopped. The same problem started again in the month of March and April. I find that whenever I release vaginal fluids such as during menstruation or ovulation these urinary symptoms come again. In May I started to take antibiotic for the first time but it did not work and then I switched to taking cranberry and D mannose capsules. It worked to some extent as I could sleep reasonably well at night without having to urgently pee all the time. But when my periods started the symptoms are worse with more frequent and incomplete voiding. I have NO pain nor have I experienced bleeding. My urine is a healthy pale yellow color as I drink lot of water but the peeing is frequent and incomplete and I feel a constant pressure to avoid lot of the time. I don't have other bodily symptoms. I am worried what all this could mean.

PGD Maternal Child Health, MBBS
General Physician, Akola
If not done yet, you may need to do a urine culture and sensitivity test to find out infection and the type of organism in the urinary bladder and the antibiotic to which these organisms are sensitive so that instead of a blind approach, a definite exact treatment can be initiated. If not done this may become chronic urinary tract infection and haphazard use of antibiotics may make the organisms resistant to more of them and in the end we may not be left with any good antibiotic to use for treatment. Good hygiene of the private parts is essential as you have yourself stated that after menses this problem flares up.

Hi, I'm pregnant. Im in 3 trimester. My TSH level is 5.56.Does it causes any effect to the baby? Please confirm. Also let me know how to prevent hypothyroidism.

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
As a result, the normal thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) level during pregnancy is lower than the normal nonpregnancy level. The new recommendations for TSH levels during pregnancy are the following: First trimester: less than 2.5 with a range of 0.1-2.5. Second trimester: 0.2-3.0, but you have 5.56. This condition is hypothyroidism. In many respects, the treatment of hypothyroidism in pregnant women is similar to that in nonpregnant women. A synthetic form of T4 is given to replace the missing hormone. The medication dose is regularly adjusted to maintain a steady blood level of thyroid hormone within the normal range. Therefore, it is routine practice to monitor the blood level of the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) during pregnancy.

My Best Friend have Herpes simplex and he was treated with home and he has no problem till date. But the person have no cure plzzz sent me any perfect cure option in this world. Only cure.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
There is no cure for herpes simplex. The good news is that sores often clear without treatment. Many people choose to treat herpes simplex because treatment can relieve symptoms and shorten an outbreak. Most people are treated with an antiviral medicine. An antiviral cream or ointment can relieve the burning, itching, or tingling. An antiviral medicine that is oral (pills) or intravenous (shot) can shorten an outbreak of herpes. Prescription antiviral medicines approved for the treatment of both types of herpes simplex include: Acyclovir Famciclovir Valacyclovir

I am 26 years old. I had a laproscopy for ectopic pregancy. What measures should be taken if I want to get pregant. I was scared whether the next pregancy also with effect the like the first one.

MBBS, DGO, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Ectopic pregnancy usually occurs when the fallopian tube which connects the ovaries to uterus gets blocked or is diseased. You can try for pregnancy after 6 months of rest. There are definetly chances of normal pregnancy but risk of next ectopic cannot be fully ruled out. Its a matter of chance.

Hi I travelled to USA a month back. I have one yr old baby. This time my period is too late. My pregnancy test was negative. Please advise.

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
Sometimes lifestyle factors contribute to amenorrhea, for instance: Low body weight. Excessively low body weight ? about 10 percent under normal weight ? interrupts many hormonal functions in your body, potentially halting ovulation. Women who have an eating disorder, such as anorexia or bulimia, often stop having periods because of these abnormal hormonal changes. Excessive exercise. Women who participate in activities that require rigorous training, such as ballet, may find their menstrual cycles interrupted. Several factors combine to contribute to the loss of periods in athletes, including low body fat, stress and high energy expenditure. Stress. Mental stress can temporarily alter the functioning of your hypothalamus ? an area of your brain that controls the hormones that regulate your menstrual cycle. Ovulation and menstruation may stop as a result. Regular menstrual periods usually resume after your stress decreases. Hormonal imbalance Many types of medical problems can cause hormonal imbalance.

I want to know about complete details of menstrual cycle. What is 1st day means. When does bleeding happens. When to have safe sex.

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear lybrate user. I do understand. Menstruation is a cycle. The first day is the day in which bleeding is seen. Bleeding happens because of the disintegration of unfertilized egg. Safe sex can be up to 10 days from fday 1 and before 7 days of the next day 1. I suggest you read many articles available online. Take care.
