Hello. Maintain a right standing and sitting posture, keep your back always straight, avoid carrying weight on back. Hold or carry weight divided equally in both the hands or shoulders (to avoid over straining on one particular hand or shoulder). Lie down on bed on your back without pillow. Exercise: Practice Shavasana or Corpse Pose as it looks like a dead body. If practiced correctly and with full efforts, can relax every body part, relaxing not only the body but also the mind: Spread the legs one to two feet apart, the toes are turned outwards, the heels facing each other, a comfortable distance apart. Bring the arms a little away from the body, palms turned upward. Relax the neck and allow it to turn to the side if it is more comfortable. Close the eyes and focus the attention on the body, breathing normally. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Arnica 200 and Rhus Tox. 200 - take both of them thrice daily for 1 week. Also, apply Schwabe's Topi-Arnica and Topi MP Gel on the affected area in circular motions gently thrice a day. Get back to me thereafter.

Tk muscle relaxant medicine and rest and heat fermentation for both. Do spine stretching exercise in daily routine. And keep a roll of towel under knee and press for 10 sec then release. Do 15 times and quadriceps exercise. If it work then ok otherwise tk physiotherapy treatment must for both.

I fall down from the two wheeler three weeks back and my right hand ankle is paining. There is no swelling and no unbearable pain. But a slight pain is there and while lifting some thing like office files etc, i feel the pain and could not life the things so easy as earlier. Please give me some suggestion.

You could have sprained a ligament in your wrist. Try using a wrist splint for 2 weeks. If the condition does not improve consult your orthopedic.

Hello Dr. My mother (age - 56 ) is suffering from joints pain and muscles pain since last 2-3 months. The pain is unbearable. She can't walk without holding any support and even can't stand for sometime. Some times she becomes aggressive n speaks very harsh words bluntly. She often forgets many things she has done or spoken. She has thyroid disorder since last 15 years n she was taking a tablet (Thyroxine Sodium Tablets IP, THYROX - 25 ) regularly in the morning empty stomach and she was doing very well with this medication. Now, 3 months before when she had these types of pains we consulted our family physician where her routine checkup had being done on regular basis as directed by the physician. We got some blood tests like Haemogram report, Renal Function, Arthritis Profile, Thyroid Function Test done for it. And the results says : Hemoglobin : 11.3 gm% R.B.C. : 4.18 mill./cu. Mm. W.B.C. : 7820/cu. Mm Platelet. : 3,06,000/ cu. Mm. polymorph. : 70% Lymphocytes : 25% eosinophil. : 02% monocyte. : 03% basophil. : 00% P.C.V. : 35.1% M.C.V. : 83. 97fl M.C.H. : 27.03 pg M.C.H.C. : 32.19% R.D.W. : 14.9% E.S.R. (Automated ) After one hour : 90 mm Serum Creatinine. : 0.99 mg/dl Uric acid : 6.41 mg% RA Test (Quantitative ) : 109.9 IU/ml Serum FT4 Estimation : 14.12 pmol/L Serum U/S TSH Estimation : 12.30 ulU/ml Our family physician proscribed the below medicines for it - Tab Thyrox 50 mcg 1-0-0 empty stomach Tab HCQS 200 (10) 0-1-0 Tab Etova-P 400 (30) 1-0-1 Tab Imutrex 7.5 (4) 0-0-1 every Friday Tab liquid-D3 (4) 0-0-1 every Friday She had completed the course of the above medicines. But there is no result. She has continue her Thyroid Tab as the physician said. We had also consulted other physicians. Some of them said the arthritis problem is because of Thyroid disorder, if she takes Thyroid Tab regularly n do routine checkup regularly then everything will be fine after few months. Some said she needed to take the Thyroid Tab of 50 mcg when she was taking it of 25 mcg. But our family physician never proscribed the 50 mcg Tab before this. Now here is my question Dr. Is/was my mother going under correct/right medication. Is her Thyroid Tab of 50 mcg is okk according to her report I've mentioned above. Shall we go for Ayurveda or naturopathic treatment for her arthritis problem. Give some suggestions for the problem. Hi hiral first of all you hv given a really comprehensive history, complements ob that. Your mother is suffering most likely from rheumatoid arthritus seeing her high titres ib ra report and history you gv. Immutrex and hcqs are goid tablets but they start working a bit late and immitrex need to be increased gradually. Initially you need to give some dose of low dose steroids to make the former medicines work more effectively. Normal physicians might not be well trained to treat ra, cobsult a rheumatologist of possible, remember natiroapthy and ayurveda does not lead to complete relied unlike allopathy and if you are late joints might undergo destruction nothing will work after that. Many a times naturopathy and ayurveda gives drugs containing gold and lead, steroid powder you can never check because most of time they are self made powders, we do use steroids for ra in allopathy but most of time its low dose, pt knows abt it and we try to stop it as soon as pt gets totally controlled. We monitor regularly also. Also ra is usually a chronoc diseaae, faster you act lesser the meds required in future.

Hi I am suffering from pain in muscle and bone of both legs and always feel tired .not able to work or walk full day I feel very tiredness in my body .even at night due to pain in muscle and bone I am not able to sleep up to late night please advice me medicine.

Leg pain- for leg pain, please follow the below advise: keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

Mri report says: small left paracentral l5-s1 disc protrision causing thecal disc compression abutting the left traversing s1 nerve root. Small prostero-cental l4-l5 disc protrusion is seen. To correlate this we need to know in detail your symptoms like - duration of your back pain and leg pain( if there) - are there any neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness in legs, paresthesias ( electrical shock like sensations ) present in legs? - how much distance can you walk and does walking increase your symptoms? please answer extensively to my questions and I should be able to help you. Knee pain is a common complaint that affects people of all ages. Knee pain may be the result of an injury or some other medical conditions including arthritis, patellar tendinitis, acl injury, knee bursitis, torn meniscus, gout and infections. Try some home remedies for your pain- - ice is useful for the control of pain and swelling. It can be applied to the knee for 15 to 20 minutes as often as every two to four hours. The swollen knee should be elevated above the level of the heart while icing. -activities that cause pain should be avoided temporarily. -if the knee is swollen or sore, the following positions and activities should be avoided until knee pain and swelling resolve: squatting kneeling twisting and pivoting jogging aerobics, dancing playing sport specific exercises will help you improve range of motion, strength, and endurance. It is especially important to focus on strengthening and stretching your quadriceps since these muscles are the main stabilizers of your kneecap. Core exercises may also be recommended to strengthen the muscles in your abdomen and lower back. Also maintaining a healthy body weight to avoid overstressing your knees are very important. -a full history of your problem should be taken and your movements assessed by a physiotherapist. Sir I have been suffering from back ache. What should I do for it. Tell me some exercise for that and some good pain killer.

Hi . You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation.

I have leg pain under the knees not in joints for both legs. Recently i am gone for a complete medical checkup everything is perfectly ok but my uric acid range above normal ie 7.2 normal is 6. What kind of medicine can I use. Please help.

In high uric acid avoid few diets i. E. High purine-rich foods, milk products, protein foods, meat, dried beans, dried peas, mushrooms, whey proteins which are used in zym, alcohol, diuretic medicines. Eat balanced diet, eat banana, take amino acid rich diets, l- glutamine like supplements, whole grain, oats, green veg, low cholesterol foods, plenty of water in day time, do test kidney function test every 6 months to monitor levels of uric acid. Consult doctor always for medicines. Do not take medicines by self. Take tab. Zyloric 100 mg once a day. Tab. Ulracet sos for pain.

It looks like you are anaemic. And also you have to check with your vitamin and calcium levels in the body. If the bones are weak then automatically the pain gets triggered more as there is less energy during any metabolic activity.

How Does Physiotherapy Help?

It is known that some forms of exercise go a long way in managing the symptoms of arthritis. Physiotherapy focuses on the right form of exercise that helps in relieving pain. Furthermore, they help to improve the movement of the joint, the walking posture and muscle strengthening. Based on the condition and severity of the pain, a physiotherapist might recommend free hand exercise or workout sessions in a swimming pool.

What is the Role of a Physiotherapist?

Apart from helping in managing pain, a physiotherapist’s job includes the following:

  1. To improve the flexibility, balance and coordination of the body in order to achieve the maximum physical function.

Strengthening and Stretching:

Stretching and strengthening are basic starters that a physiotherapist recommends. After assessing the strength of the muscle, a physiotherapist advises on the techniques and of various stretching and strengthening exercises. Stretching helps to relax the muscle and free up any cramps in the body. Strengthening, on the other hand, helps the bone to become more flexible and reduces the pain.

Avoiding Arthritis Pain:

  1. It is important to be active. Keeping the muscles strong and moving the muscles is a key to get relief from the pain.

  2. Maintain a healthy diet in order to ensure the right BMI for your body. Being overweight or obese can exert added pressure on the bone resulting in arthritis pain.

  3. Maintain good body posture, especially walking and sitting posture. Good posture helps in ensuring normal breathing and proper digestion.

  4. Regularly practice the exercises recommended by the physiotherapist.

  5. Using of cooling packs and thermal treatment on the joints often helps to relieve the pain.

Dear lybrate user, headache, shoulder pain with known history of cervical spondylosis can occur either in 2 cases. Cervicogenic or tension type headache or due to spondylosis itself where superior segment may give rise to headache and lateral nerves trapezitis (commonly seen with cervical facetal arthritis). Go for conservative treatment for few days if there is no relief consult either interventional pain specialist or orthopedician trained in spine for through examination and further treatment. Once you know the diagnosis it can be treated easily.
