Many times addiction starts as a flight response to stress. In other words, people look for a temporary relief from stress and get into addiction. You need to identify what causes and encourages your addiction so that you can help yourself to get rid of those issues. You can learn to relax yourself and give positive instructions to your mind to release your addiction with the help of hypnotherapy.

Dear sir,

Hi, The medication you are taking helps to reduce anxiety and in getting better sleep. You will have to consult your doctor regarding how long you should keep taking it. According to me. You should also address your anxiety relating to fear of meeting with a road accident again. Sometimes we face an unfortunate incident and somehow our mind starts over focusing on that 1 particular incident or 1 particular detail out of the whole incident and blows it out of proportion as a result of which we start getting anxious thoughts and worries which then lead to bodily symptoms such as acidity, heartburn, palpitations etc. Later these bodily symptoms start becoming a source of anxiety and worry thus compounding the problem. For example, you are 31 years old and as per your query you met with 1 accident that too where you did not face any loss or injury (I presume). 31 years x 365 days = 11315 days. Out of 11315 days, you met with an accident once but now your mind is only focusing on that 1 day and ignoring the rest 11314 days when nothing happened. Accepted that the possibility is always there but the probability is quite low. We cannot stop living our lives because of a fear that may or may not come true. Anxiety emerges when we give undue importance to a thought that arises in our mind and start believing it to be true without sufficient ground to do so. Please try to focus on the many times when nothing has happened to you and relax. That will help you the most in the long run. Do not allow one single thought to over power your entire life, I am sure there are other beautiful aspects to it too which make life worthwhile. Hope this helps.

I get chest pains and cough many times and I do smoke and I am not able to quit smoking. Please tell.

I get chest pains and cough many times and I do smoke and I am not able to quit smoking. Please tell.
Dear Lybrate user, smoking is a choice and all choices are made by us. You can quit smoking only if you tell yourself that you can do it. Not when you accept in your mind that "you are not able to quit". You must have taken many challenges in your life - I am sure you don't want to be called a loser at this as well. You have detailed about having cough and chest pains- Its possible that you may develop infection like tuberculosis or later if you don't quit - the risk of lung cancer is also very high. Make the right choice- quit today.

You have to build up confidence and mingle with friends who are fluent in English and start talking to them without fear and ask them to correct you if you make mistakes and should have patience.

Hello, I am 25 year old and have stammering problem which is now causing serious psychological problems. I have lost interest in almost every thing, meeting with friends social places. I have started feeling that I would not be able to any thing in my career. When ever I do self reading it is fluent but when I speak in front of public my hands and legs start trembling heavily, my heartbeat and breathing rate heavily. Even small work seems like a heavy task for me. I don't know how would I match up in this competitive time, weather I would get any job or not. My mind is always engulfed with all these negative thoughts which is causing severe stress in me. I am skeptical about medication provided by psychologist thats why I have not consulted any doctor yet. Please help.

Good Evening, Stammering is not an uncommon problems and if left untreated since childhood may cause significant health problems. I am sorry you are having to deal with the distressing situations that you have mentioned and more importantly that it has started to affect your career. Although, most of the stammering problems are related to anxiety some of them are related to organic causes in the larynx. However, since psychological issues are a greater causative factor for the problem of stammering it can be very effectively treated with psychotherapy or counseling and medications, a combination of which is better then either of them alone. I believe stammering if not treated may also lead to depression which will also improve as the stammering improves and you can lead a competitive and healthy life. I am sure you can overcome you problem with a little help. Look forward to hearing from you. If you need help with booking an appointment online with me on this website either text, audio or video appointment for confidential and private consultation you may do so by contacting the help desk of Lybrate.

You may consider increasing your weight. Make sure you have a sound and regualr 8 hours sleep. Drink plenty of water (at least 2 litres). You should not remain constipated as that will interfere with your food intake. Eat small amounts at regular intervals. Nuts, egg, meat, cheese, fruit juice, shakes, malted drinks are tasty and nutrient as well as calorie dense. At the same time these are not too filling.
