7 Things that Can Cause Hives

Hives or urticaria is an outbreak of reddish swollen bumps around the skin surface, formed mainly due to the body’s response to particular allergens. Generally, the infectious bumps are of varied shapes and sizes and last for about 5-6 weeks. Although not a serious medical condition, hives can cause tremendous discomfort to the concerned person and affect his/her daily activities. Hives can be cured with a prescribed dosage of antihistamines or oral corticosteroids.

Causes of hives

Although the exact reason behind their formation is still unknown, researchers suggest that this disorder occurs as a response to involuntary histamine release by the skin blood vessels (that in turn, causes a leakage of blood plasma). Some other factors that can be responsible are:

  1. Hives can occur due to insect or parasite bites.
  2. Hives can also result as a side effect of painkillers such as codeine and other anti- inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen or ACE inhibitors.
  3. Excessive exposure to sunlight or high levels of stress (leading to high cortisol levels in the body) can also result in hives.
  4. Intense scratching around the same spot can also result to hive formation.
  5. Excessive alcohol intake can render you even more vulnerable to this disease.
  6. Excessive intake of foods such as eggs, fish, nuts, chocolate and berries might also cause hives. Additionally, excessive consumption of certain food preservatives can also trigger the release of histamine.
  7. Suffering from serious underlying medical conditions such as cancer, hepatitis or thyroid disorders can make you prone to chronic cases of hives (which might last for more than 6 weeks).

Symptoms of hives 
The symptoms of hives include, but are not limited to:

  1. Appearances of several reddish welts around the face or arms which might cause a severe itchy sensation.
  2. Painful and abnormal swelling around the mouth
  3. You might also feel tightness in your chest along with recurring bouts of dizziness.

If not treated promptly after diagnosis, hives might result in life-threatening allergic reactions, such as Anaphylaxis (narrowing down of the bronchial tubes, thus causing significant breathing trouble) and auto-immune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

1. Apply proctosedyl ointment 2-3 times daily before and after passing stool. 2. Sit in a bath tub containing warm water with little salt for some time twice daily (sitz bath). 3. Take two tea spoonful lof softovac/naturolax powder with a glass of warm water/milk in the evening or syrup duphalac 3 tsf (15ml) twice daily if there is constipation. 4. Take fiber containing diet, plenty of green leafy vegetables and fruits. 5. If no relief consult a general surgeon for sclero therapy/rubber band ligation/laser or electric coagulation/surgery.

Juice of potato for controlling hair fall lack of vitamins and minerals can cause dry and brittle hairs which can trigger hair fall. Potato can be a good remedy to control hair fall in this case. You can use grapeseed oil as a regular hair care product to get healthy hairs. Simply massage your scalp and hairs regularly at night with this oil, let it seep in overnight and wash off with a cleanser in the morning. Safflower oil for hair fall for preventing hair loss and baldness safflower oil can be used. This oil is rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids which are vital for healthy hairs. You can find two varieties of safflower oils in the market, both of which can be used for hair care. Safflower oil is helpful for permed, colored and dry hair. Use safflower oil for massaging the scalp. Leave it on overnight and rinse in the next morning. Use it every alternate day to get healthy hair.

I have pcos. I am taking homeopathy medication for this. My ferritin level is low and hair fall. I am confused about pcos diet. Some said dairy products are bad for pcos. And some says animal protein are bad. And also soya product make worse in pcos. So what should I have for protein. Take a teaspoon of baking soda and add about three or four drops of castor oil to it and mix it properly. Apply it on your moles before you go to bed. Take it off and wash the area after you wake up. Do this for a month and let me know the results.

Dear Lybrate User, These are the causes of pimples: *excessive sebum production (sebum is oily secretion from the gland). *Due to hormonal imbalance. These are the methods & instructions to avoid pimples: *To control the sebum secretion you should maintain your hormonal level. Because imbalance in hormone level causes excessive sebum production and causes acne. So do not take stress and do exercise daily such as running, jogging and long breathing exercises. *Use oil free face wash and drink 7 -8 glass of water daily. • Do not touch your pimple because your finger transfer bacteria to it and make it worse. If you touch it then clean your face with water. * Take cucumber and papaya pulp. Mix it well and add 1 tablespoon Turmeric. Make a paste and apply it on face and leave it for 15 minutes. *Use a face pack of fuller's earth (multani mitti) with rose water one time in a day for seven days. It removes toxins from skin. * Take 2 teaspoon of RAKTASHODAK SYRUP of BAIDYANATH company once a day. *Steam your face to open the pores, which in turn clear the skin. Take tab. sinarest it contains ( Acetaminophen+ Pseudoephedrine+ chlorpheniramine). Acetaminophen, chlorpheniramine, and pseudoephedrine is a combination medicine for throat infection and treat headache, fever, body aches, runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and sinus congestion caused by allergies, the common cold, or the flu. Do gargle with warm water thrice a day. Drink warm water also. Take plenty of water, liquid diet, dalia, green veg., orange. avoid cold things, avoid cold drinks. Avoid Oily foods. Thanks for the query. Firstly it is important to understand that weight /fat loss involves sensible eating. You have to eat the right foods at the right time. Eat small but frequent meals.     Reduce main meals by a small amount. Take a glass of lime water 10minutes before meals. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Lastly be committed.                        Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing.     It's a balanced intake that will last you longer. All the so called diets will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. So, try to first follow this seemingly simple tips.

Hye. Weight loss is not about a particular food, it's about your whole lifestyle. Eating the right foods at the right time is crucial. If you skip meals or follow fad diets, eat a lot of junk, whether you eat rice or not, you will surely gain weight. So, set a routine. Eat smaller more frequent meals. Eat as much as your body needs, not less, not more. Exercise at least thrice a week.

What current medications and remedies you already tried to treat acne? acne is a common problem in teen. Almost everybody will get pimples during their teen years. First, don't try to self treat acne. Some popular nonprescription acne lotions, cleansers and other skin products can cause a serious reaction (rare), mostly it is normal to have acne in teenage. For pimples it's important to wash your face twice daily to remove impurities, dead skin cells, and extra oil from your skin's surface, avoid touching your face or propping your cheek or chin on your hands. Not only can you spread bacteria, you can also irritate the already inflamed facial skin. Never pick or pop pimples with your fingers, as it can lead to infection and scarring. A dietary therapy with the right medications for pimples can also help a lot. Kojic acid (a natural skin lightener derived from mushroom extract), arbutin (also called bearberry extract), and vitamin c (ascorbic acid) are great alternative ingredients to lighten scars left by acne. Don't use vitamin e or any self prescribed preparations on scars or pimples. Increasing the intake of omega-3 fatty acids through a diet significantly rich in fish and seafood results in lower rates of an inflammatory disease like acne. A low-glycemic-index diet also reduces acne risk.
