Hello lybrate-user, from the symptoms described by you, it seems more likely to be a case of allergy. Usually, allergy in children persists and stays till a certain age after which it naturally reduces and eventually disappears. You might need to use these drops frequently but you should do so only after consulting your eye specialist each and every time. Also, try and maintain strict eye hygiene in your child. This involves not touching your eyes with hands, not rubbing the eyes with any type of cloth or handkerchief, etc. Also, it would be a good idea to wash the eyes with clean water and clean hands 3-4 times daily. Doing so will help in preventing recurrence of the allergy. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care.

Suggest me good liquid for cleansing of my babies feeding bottle ? Can we clean with normal soaps and liquids.

General Physician,
Suggest me good liquid for cleansing of my babies feeding bottle ? Can we clean with normal soaps and liquids.
The best advise is not to bottle feed infants and give breast milk and feed from cup. If you must, you can use soap for cleaning.

Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (full mouth x-ray) to decide upon treatment. You may consult me in person. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

No injection is painless. So called painless injection, TDaP has low immunity (though to desirable level), less lasting and costly in comparison to TDwP.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Valvar Aortic Stenosis in Children

FSCAI (Int Card), FACC (Card), FACP (Int Medicine), MBBS
Cardiologist, Delhi
Diagnosis and Treatment of Valvar Aortic Stenosis in Children

Valvar aortic stenosis, commonly called aortic stenosis, is a disorder which occurs when the aortic valve of the heart becomes narrow (know Main Indicators of a Heart Disease in a Child). The narrowing of the valve prevents its full opening, and hence, blood flow from the heart to the aorta is restricted. When the aortic valve gets obstructed, the heart has to exert much more effort to pump the blood. The heart muscles get weakened as a result. This condition is more common in children.

Diagnosis of Valvar Aortic Stenosis:
Before diagnosis, we should know about the symptoms of valvar aortic stenosis in children. They include:

  • Feeling breathless
  • Angina or chest pain with a feeling of pressure or tightness
  • Syncope of fainting
  • Palpitations and enhanced heartbeats
  • A steady decline in regular activities and energy levels
  • Fatigue due to little exertion
  • Not gaining weight
  • Poor eating patterns
  • Problems in breathing

The wall of the left ventricle also thickens muscularly, and the thick wall occupies more space in the lower chamber of the heart and hence, the room for adequate blood supply is reduced. This may lead to heart failure.

Echocardiogram: The initial test that is recommended for patients with symptoms of valvar aortic stenosis is Doppler Echocardiography. This test enables the doctor to estimate the aortic valve region, peak or mean transvalvular gradients and the maximum aortic velocity. These primary measures are required to assess the severity of the disease. Echocardiography provides important information on the valve function, left ventricular filling pressure and disruptions in other valves.

Other major tests which help in the diagnosis of valvar aortic stenosis include:

  • MRI or magnetic resonance imaging, which provides images of internal body structures with great detail.
  • CT scan or computed tomography where three-dimensional images are extracted.
  • Chest X ray
  • Cardiac catheterization where a dye is used to highlight blockages, if any, in the heart.

Treatment: Usually, there are no medicines for fixing valvar aortic stenosis as the disease is not reversible. Medicines can be used to treat the problems, which are caused by the condition.

Replacement of the damaged valve by surgery is the best treatment for valvar aortic stenosis. The surgery performed is called valvuloplasty. This is a cardioscopic surgery where a tube with a small balloon is inserted into a vein. The tube is guided into the heart, and the balloon is inflated. The balloon and tube are removed after the valve is opened. The damaged valve is replaced by mechanical valve or the valve of a cow or pig by an open-heart surgery.

Valvar aortic stenosis is a severe heart condition in children, and the only permanent remedy for this disease is a valve replacement surgery.

Hello Ms. Lybrate-user, please see to it, that there is no swelling present, if injury had occurred in less than 48 hrs you can apply ice or vapocoolant spray, but if more than 48 hrs you can apply local heat in the vicinity of the injury. No its not true. Diapers can cause diaper dermatitis that too when improper care takes place. Otherwise diapers are not a problem at all.

First you must acclimatise your baby to home available semisolids like rice porridge, kichri etc. Once in a week you can add one by one like fruit, mashed vegetable etc.

Myth - Small breast can't produce sufficient milk

MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology, MBBS

Breast size has nothing to do with the quantity of milk produced. Large breasts just have more fat tissue, which is unrelated to milk production.

Pediatrician,
Pain in abdomen is frequent complaint in children an many of them without much reason on examination. The children grow the problem and there is nothing to worry about it. Treat it as an when necessary. His weight appears to be normal for his age and if he is active and playful, there may not be anything wrong with him. Get usg abdomen to see if we are missing something. And post the report online. What is this chronic high blood pressure you are referring to? is child suffering from high b. P. I believe not.

Give her homoeopathic medicines -- arsenic alb. 30 and aloe soc. 30 - both after every 1 hour of gap for 1st day then reduce the frequency to 2 or 3 times a day till she gets better. If you are giving bottle feed you have to stop bottle and feed with spoon and breast feed. If she is refusing feed it may be a sign of some illness and you watch for it or you can ignore it.
