I am 72 years male, suffering from diabetes and under treatment. I also suffered head injury due to road accident and hospitalized for a month, in coma for nearly 3 weeks & still under treatment. Dislocated Kneecap - Symptoms and Treatment

Have you suffered from a dislocated kneecap and are looking for effective treatment options? A dislocated kneecap is a very common form of injury that takes around six weeks time to heal. It is generally caused by a blow or a change in direction when your leg is planted on the ground. Such injuries are common during sports and dancing. The patella or knee cap, which sits at the front of the knee, glides over a groove in your joint, on straightening or bending your leg. Dislocations make it come out of the groove, leading to the tearing of the supporting tissues.

Symptoms

  • When your kneecap gets dislocated, it is likely to look out of place, or the angle will seem odd.
  • Other symptoms include severe knee pain, inability to walk, swelling of the knee, inability to straighten the knee, and a popping sensation in the knee.

Treatment

  • A dislocated knee cap is not something very serious and it pops back in place on its own in many cases. However, it is recommended for you to get it diagnosed and treated by a health professional.
  • In case your knee cap goes back into place on its own, you should visit a minor injuries unit or MIU, or an accident and emergency department.
  • If your kneecap does not go back into place by itself, you need to call an ambulance and avoid trying to put it back in place by yourself.
  • On the way to the hospital, or while you wait for the ambulance to arrive, you should sit, keeping your leg in a position that is most comfortable for you.
  • If your kneecap does not correct itself by the time you reach a hospital, it has to be manipulated back in place by a doctor. This process is called reduction.
  • You will be given medication to ensure that you keep relaxed and free from pain during the procedure.
  • After the knee cap is put back in place, an X-ray has to be undertaken to check out if your bones are in the right position. Signs of other damages are also analysed.
  • After the procedure, you will be prescribed painkillers. Your leg will be immobile and put in a removable splint for some time.
  • For effective recovery, you should undergo physiotherapy for several weeks.

A surgery for a dislocated kneecap may only be required to be undertaken in case of a fracture or associated injuries like a ligament tear. A surgery may also be required in case you had experienced a knee cap dislocation in the past. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an orthopedist.

I'm working as sales officer in Tw loan department. Where I suppose to set in showroom where I has to approach customers to take bike for loan. I had to do back office work like filling loan application form and all agreements and get it ready and finally I have to go to branch for file disbursement I prefer going branch by walking hence it might cause me leg and back pain. And while going home I prefer bus I always stuck in traffic in sakinaka. Because of that my leg and back pain start paining more. Whn I reach home I became were dull I don't have any energy so how can I get energy and relief from leg and back pain please suggest me as soon as possible. Consider my age to I m just 23years old.

A) take 2 tsf of SHATAVARI KALP with 250 ml of lukewarm water, in the morning instead of break fast…B) take 60 ml of triphala juice along with 15 ml of honey and 1-1 tablet of VASANTKUSUMAKAR RASA and MOUTIKYUKTA KAMDUDHA VATI at night before sleep…. C) take 10 gm of FENNEL SEEDS along with 10 gm jiggery after meals…D) eat 4-5 seeds of ALMONDS during meals…do all these things for 30 days…it gives you good result…. Start with physiotherapy treatment and learn spinal exercise. Don't sit on floor. Get x ray for lumber spine. Take calcium and multivitamin with vitamin d 3 for 2 month.

Sir I am 61 yrs. Recently a month back fell down enroute fetching milk. I fell on my left shoulder and the entire body weight fell on my left shoulder. I consulted physios and not underwent therapy for 10 days, but my pain has not reduced and I cannot move my left shoulder freely. Please advise.

Hello sir, this is Dr. Hitin mathur from new delhi, welcome to lybrate. With regards to your shoulder, did you get an x ray done, if not get an x ray shoulder ap and a axial views. You may have a fracture. If there is no fracture and you still can't actively lift the arm, then there may be torn rotator cuff muscles. An mri of the shoulder will help in finding that out. Revert back with the investigations.

Actually from 1 years ago my mom left leg was paining too much and we consult many doctors but the result was same the pain wont releif.

This could be due to lumbar Spondylosis with nerve root compression. Rule out diabetes & vit.D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Use no pillow under the head. Any way take Paracetamol 250mg OD & SOS You will need other supportive medicines also. Do back (spine) exercises Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take You may have to use lumbosacral support for some time. Avoid painful act/activities. Take medicines as prescribed It may have to be further investigated. Do ask for detailed treatment plan. Do not ignore .It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Dear lybrate-user, This sounds like unwanted vaata in your joints and body. Please take 30 ml castor oil in the morning with plenty of hot water. It will flush out the toxins in your system as well as a lot of un wanted vaata.

You have to reduce weight due to you are feeling pain Avoid fatty and spices food and skip lunch with mild breakfast and dinner take warm water with lemon and honey 2 glass daily empty stomach walk for at least 4-5 km daily with mild exercise and diet control avoid non veg and fast food do exercise and take plenty of water and papaya every day.
