My son is 4 months completed and 15 days running. His weight is 5 kgs and 516 grams. He has been taking less breast feeding for few days. Does he has normal weight? What should I do to increase his feeding? He has been habituated to suck fingers. Give me thorough information regarding this. Please suggest me to get rid off from this query.

His wt is less than expected wt 6.6 kg. Increase number of feed or put him on breast for longer time to his satisfaction that may be helpful in reducing his fingers sucking habit too.

Please continue feeding as per instructions on the tin. Don't dilute the milk unnecessarily. Be patient. This is ok.

Regarding the ultrasound you need to check with the ultrasonologist to give you a report. If urine is showing some bacteria it mayindicate infection if he has symptoms of fever etc. Baby needs to be examined and investigated with further tests.

If she is gaining weight. Passing urine 7/8 times a day. And is quiet or playful inbtween the feeding intervals .Ur milk output is sufficient. Be confident. More the baby suckles. More is the milk output.

My 15 month old son is constipated. We gave him an oral laxative, still he is not passing stools. It has been the case since a month. Please advise.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Faridabad
Stop bottle feed and give him high fibre food. To treat constipation laxatives have to be given for at least three months with changes in diet. Most of the time such babies have pain while passing stools. They may be having fissure in ano that is wound at the anus, local anesthetic agent may be added and luke warm water wash of the anal region may be done to relieve of pain.

My four years old daughter has nose and chest congestion (with thick phlegm and wheezing sound) every now and then for last few months which is not letting her sleep properly in the night. I have been nebulising her from time to time. I've also been treating her with antibiotics but unable to get her rid of the infection permanently. Too worried about her as it is adversely affecting her overall growth. Kindly suggest effective remedy. Shall be grateful. Regards.

I can't say if lactare has any role to increase milk. Keep the baby on breast one after other till either breast is emptied or baby is satisfied. If baby is still hungry, only then give complementary dairy milk already kept ready. This is the way to increase milk.

Which milk to give to a 11 months old baby and how many times? Which powder to be added.

It's best time to develop taste for food. Offer him everything you eat at home ( rice/ chapati/ veggies/ dal/ egg) with some modifications according to his nutritional needs. Like, simply you can add milk in all sweet preparations instead of water and can add little ghee / paneer in all salty preparations . Offer him milk, 3-4 times in a day. Give him undiluted whole milk . You can opt for Cow's milk too. In Formula milk , Enfamil A+ , is a good preparation .
