I am 20 years old girl. And on Friday I had little bit kind of sex with my partner but that was without use of condom for 3 - 4 minutes. But sex was not proper means his penis was not much inserted into my vagina ,it was sort of rubbing n little bit inside vagina, So is there any chance of pregnancy ,if yes than what medicine should b taken?

If sperms have gone in, then yes for chance of pregnancy. If 72 hours are not over can take any emergency pill this time but for future learn about family planning There are many temporary family planning methods like oral pills, injectable hormones, Intra uterine devices, condoms, diaphragms, safe period, coitus interruptus etc. You must know about success and failure rates of all as well as advantages and dis-advantages of all to decide which suits you the best. May be consult Gynecologist as a couple.

Eat, Sleep, Move, Relax

Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), MBBS Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
Internal Medicine Specialist, Bangalore
Eat, Sleep, Move, Relax

Obesity and wellness (continued)

  • Eat less, move more
  • Stress less, sleep more
  • These are fundamentals of maintaining ideal weight and good health.

We live in a society where majority people eats too much, move too little, stresses all the time and sleep less.

Why we have a tendncy to over eat?

Our eating patterns are influenced by culture, tradition and region.
Many people eat mindlessly without consciously knowing what they are eating. Our eating is also influenced by emotional stress. So
A) we must develop a knowledge on nutrition on day -today basis.
More you know about food nutrition, more you eat better.
B) mindfull eating with awareness of what we are eating and how much we are eating is crucial.
C) maintain calmness of mind so that food cravings are reduced.

How much walking and exercise is our body’s minimum requirement?

  • Reasearch says 10, 000 steps walking a day is a minimum requirement to break insulin resistance and to maintain good health.
  • Walking alone is not enough.
  • Atleast 3 times a week, do resistance training in a gym.(till age 60).
  • After age 35, physiologically we lose 3% muscle mass every year. This will be prevented by regular muscle training
  • More muscles means more calories burn.
  • Do yoga, swimming, marathon, cycling etc once or twice a week as you like.

How sleep and stress affects our weight?

A) not getting enough sleep can affect hormones like leptin and ghrelin that regulate our appetite, making us eat more.
B) in response to stress, our body releases cortisol that promotes visceral fat. If we are stressed too often, that can cause weight gain.

Food, activity, sleep, and mood work together. Every bite, step, and hour of deep sleep has an effect not only on the body’s processes but on mental and emotional fitness as well.

Usually we advise not to indulge in sex in first three months of pregnancy, but if she feels comfortable, there is no harm, provided she has no pain or discomfort and her Ultrasound and other antinatal tests are normal.

There is no absolutely safe period. In a regular 28 days cycle day 1-10 and day 18-28 are relatively safe days but safe period method is very unreliable and has a high failure rate.

I was wrongly advised to take ROSVAS 50 mg for 1 month. I was hospitalized for 10 days due to decline of WBC, PLATELETS & HAEMOGLOBIN. I was discharged 1 month back. But still there is fluctuation in the counts like sudden fall of platelets, from 3, 48, 000 to 1, 18, 000. In the long run will I face any major or minor problems?

To clear your doubts get an ultrasound pelvis done to rule out any pathology and follow up with reports and repeat TSH after three months and if it is increased than we will start with medication lifelong and for now we can take medication for initiation of withdrawal bleeding after clinical examination.
