Hello there, for cough, take 2-2 teaspoonful of pranacharya kasantak by mixing it in hot water twice daily. Sitopaladi, praval and tankan bhasm churna taken with honey can also bring relief. Consume this 3 to 4 times a day for relief from dry cough; you can also drink tea with basil leaves or add ginger and black pepper in it. Salted hot water gargling also helps. And stay away from cold drinks and don't take milk when having cough.

Check your chap pal or shoes which you r wearing. Is it hard or not. There r so many reasons like old age excessive walking long standing mineral deficiency and diabetes etc. 1. You can take hot and cold water therapy. 2. Heat pad and an ice pack. 3. While taking this therapy you can add vinegar in water also.

Phimosis, if present since birth, is purely a surgical condition. But if it develops in later age due to any inflammation/infection then there are many homeopathic medicines like merc. Iod. Sulphur, acid-nit, jacaranda, cinnabaris, hepar-sulph, can notharis, thuja etc which can help such cases.

Mr. lybrate-user Verhese, Thanks for the query. The blood glucose levels mentioned are seriously high. It is absolutely essential to bring those under control very quickly. Ideally fasting should be < 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c5 <6.8. With such high levels there is a severe resistance to yur Insulin action due to glucotoxicity and lipotoxicity. Therefore, it is better to initiate the treatment with Insulin injection along with oral drugss, achieve a strict and good control of blood glucose. Then after about 3 to 4 months we can discontinue Insulin and control the blood glucose with oral drugs, diet and exercise. If you are only on oral drugs now, it will be difficult to achieve a quick and necessary glucose control. As regards the diet, I need to know the present dietary pattern, extent of daily exercise and drugs (if already treatment has been started). Following are certain precautions to be taken: 1) Stop all sweets, deep fried foods, avoid junk foods, pastries, bakery items and all foods made from maida. 2) Increase the intake of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. 3) Always use whole grain flour for roti and chapati. 4) Avoid fructose syrup containing foods, colas and red meat. 5) Refrain from alcohol and smoking. 6) Exercise daily for over one hour. If you are looking for specific instructions and even treatment please come is private conversation (paid consultation, then I will be able to even prescribe if there is any need. Thanks.

Italians consume pasta, Chinese have noodles. Is it okay for Indians to consume the same? Will it affect our health?

Hello lybrate-user, pastas and noodles are staple of that respective countries. They balance it by eating other healthy foods like vegetables, meat, fish poultry etc with it. However indians have chapatti and rice as their staple and their bodies are used to digesting it well as had since childhood. However if one is able to have a balanced diet with ocassional cheating on pasta and noodles then its fine.

Managing EPILEPSY in WOMEN

MBBS, MD - General Medicine, DM - Neurology
Neurologist, Hyderabad
Managing EPILEPSY in WOMEN

Epilepsy is a common illness and therefore, we commonly encounter women with epilepsy (WWE), who are either pregnant or contemplating pregnancy. There are a lot of apprehensions and misconceptions regarding managing epilepsy in this group of WWE. Here, I wish to highlight some of the important aspects of managing epilepsy in women who are planning a pregnancy or are currently pregnant.

1. If a woman is seizure-free for at least two years, she can consider withdrawing anti-epileptic drugs (aeds) under the supervision of neurologist, and then plan for pregnancy.

2. If a woman has seizures, it is better to continue aeds during pregnancy, as the risk to the baby is several times higher with seizures, as compared to that with aeds.

3. Sodium valproate has the highest risk to the developing baby, and it should be avoided in pregnancy.

4. Aeds such as levetiracetam, lamotrigine, oxcarbazepine, topiramate, etc are safe and may be continued during pregnancy.

5. The lowest effective dose of aed should be used.

6. Try to use only a single anti-epileptic drug, if possible.

7. Folic acid vitamin supplements should be used in pregnancy.

8. The dose of anti-epileptic medication may have to be increased during the last three months of pregnancy.

9. Ct scan of the brain should be avoided, as far as possible, during pregnancy, as radiation exposure due to it may harm the baby.

10. Mri brain is reasonably safe for baby, especially after the first three months of pregnancy. So, if needed, it may be performed.
