I always seem to have a high heart rate which seems to be around 118 to 125 even in the most normal, relaxed and healthy conditions. I also feel abit dizzy sometimes and get sweaty too soon. I am a 20 year old Indian male and have sinus allergies during season changes. Should I be concerned about my stated condition and if yes then how much? Also if this seems like symptoms of any sort then I would like to know about that.

General Physician, Mumbai

Dear lybrateuser, - Since your resting heart rate is above 100 beats/ min you should get investigations done to rule out any problem, can do blood hemoglobin, thyroid panel, blood sugar, ECG - also do exercise like walking, yoga & deep breathing, may bring down the rate to some extent.

Virus In Your Body Can Cause Tonsillitis!

Tonsillitis is a disorder of the tonsils present on the back of your throat. The tonsils acts as a defensive mechanism in the body as they prevent the body from infections. This is a contagious condition and can occur at any age. It is widely prevalent among school going kids.

Tonsillitis may be classified into two types:

  1. Chronic tonsillitis: This type of tonsillitis tends to last for an extended duration with symptoms of bad breath and tenderness in the lymph nodes.
  2. Recurrent tonsillitis: This is a form of acute tonsillitis which repeats itself over a year.

Causes: Tonsils prevent various virus and bacteria from entering the body through the mouth by producing antibodies. The tonsils, however, may become vulnerable to these infections. A virus that causes common cold or the bacteria that causes strep throat may result in tonsillitis. The most common cause of this disorder is the strep bacteria. School going children are especially vulnerable to this disorder because they are most prone to various infections.

The various viruses that may cause tonsillitis are:

  1. Enterovirus
  2. Herpes simplex virus
  3. Epstein-Barr virus
  4. Influenza virus
  5. Adenovirus
  6. Parainfluenza virus

Common symptoms:
The various symptoms of tonsillitis are

  1. Swallowing difficulties
  2. sore throat
  3. The sore throat may result in bad breath
  4. You may experience fever and chills
  5. Pain in the head, ear and stomach
  6. You may experience stiffness in the neck and the jaw
  7. Swollen tonsils with possible redness
  8. Changes in voice
  9. Symptoms of cold

Treatment: The treatment for tonsillitis is usually antibiotics and in some cases, tonsillectomy. The antibiotics help in getting rid of the bacterial infectionSurgery is only done in cases where tonsillitis is chronic in nature. It is important that you drink fluids and restrict smoking to prevent tonsillitis.

How To Cure Sinusitis Naturally?

How To Cure Sinusitis Naturally?

Sinusitis is an irritation or swelling of the tissue covering the sinuses. Healthy sinuses are loaded with air. But there are times when they get blocked and loaded with fluid. In such cases, germs can develop and cause an infection. Due to this infection, your nose gets heavily blocked along with you sinuses and might make it difficult for you to breathe.

Conditions that can bring about sinus blockage include the following:

  • Common cold

  • Allergic rhinitis (swelling of the lining around the nose)

  • Little developments or growths in the covering of the nose called nasal polyps

  • A deviated septum (a shift in the nasal cavity)

Here are some of the ways you can get rid of sinusitis naturally:

  1. Stay Hydrated: Drink a lot of water, soup or broth, along with juices with no added sugar and hot tea. These liquids will disperse bodily fluids and drain it from the disturbed sinuses.

  2. Salt Water Rinse: In case you suffer from sinus infections often, invest in a neti pot. This helpful container makes it simple to hydrate your nasal tract, getting out undesirable bodily fluids and any contaminants you may have breathed, an which may have been caught in the nasal cavity.

  3. Turmeric/Ginger Root: Turmeric root is an excellent fragrant spice found in most Indian and Middle Eastern dishes. Turmeric not only contains the regular calming and anti-inflammatory curcumin, it is also an antioxidant. When it is mixed with hot ginger ale and blended with hot tea, this mixture can remove excess fluid from the clogged nasal sections, ease sinus pressure and make you feel better.

  4. Spicy Food: Spicy ingredients such as mustard, hot peppers, curry, horseradish, and masala in one’s food may help in clearing sinuses. In case you like spices, think about including some hot flavours to your food to open your nasal entries.

  5. Apply Warm Packs: You can use a warm pack to keep the nasal tissues damp. Also, fill a round bowl or pot with steaming water and place your face over it with a towel around your head to inhale the steam in. This will open up your sinuses and make an easy path for fluid drainage.

  6. Take a Steam: High temperature water vapour can saturate the sinuses. Sprinkle a couple drops of eucalyptus or menthol in the shower or bath and steam up your bathroom. A hot shower can also relax the bodily fluid as well as the mucus and debris that are stuck inside your nose.

  7. Apple Cider Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar is not only powerful in disposing off sinus issues; it can also be used for different skin and hair issues. What it does essentially for sinus infection is that it clears up the nose so that the bodily fluid can be removed quickly.

I'm suffering from sinusitis since a very long time and have to deal with extreme headaches most of the times. What to do?

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
ENT Specialist, Delhi
Because your problem is of long duration you should get a ct scan done to rule out any underlying mass or polyps in nose blocking sinus drainage and causing sinus problem to you. You can take tab. Allegra 120 mg daily at night and flomist nasal spray twice a day for 2 weeks. Do steam inhalation also.

Hi I am suffering from recurrent tonsillitis. After using of antibiotics it's getting reduced but soon it re occurs. May I know the permanent solution for it.

DORL, MBBS
ENT Specialist, Faridabad
Permanent solution is the surgical removal of the tonsils if you are getting infection of the tonsils 7-8 times in full year of grade iv, if the symptoms are less than keep yourself hydrated with shakes juices, milk products like coffee and shakes, good chewing habits also make it better.
