5 Tips To Prevent Varicose Veins and Varicose Ulcers

5 Tips To Prevent Varicose Veins and Varicose Ulcers

Varicose veins are bulging blue veins on the legs that can cause leg swelling, skin blackening and even open wounds called ulcers. It is commonly seen in people aged 35 and above who have to stand a lot. Here are a few tips to prevent these:

1. Avoid standing for long periods: Standing for long periods of time causes blood to pool in your leg veins and they begin to bulge out like a balloon. Avoid standing desks at your work. If you have to stand, take a 5-minute break every hour and walk around or sit down.

2. Keep weight in check: Overweight people have a higher incidence of varicose veins. Keeping your weight in check would also prevent varicose veins.

3. Exercise 30 minutes a day: Exercise, especially brisk walking or jogging, will get the blood in your leg veins to circulate and thus prevent varicose veins.

4. Take the stairs: This simple exercise activates your calf muscles and gets blood to circulate in your veins.

5. Be vigilant: Calf cramps, swelling, change in colour of skin over foot and open wounds over the feet are a few signs that you need to look out for. Seek medical help to prevent worsening of this disease.

Follow these simple steps and you would be able to prevent varicose veins and have healthy feet.

Foods To Protect Your Liver When You Have Hepatitis C

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 25 percent of people with HIV are also living with hepatitis C. The combination makes treatment difficult since the medications often don?t agree with each other, worsening one of the viruses as a result. Because hepatitis C could take months to show up in your bloodstream, it?s important to get tested regularly. However, if you?re already been diagnosed with HIV and hepatitis C, liver damage can occur.
But even if you don?t have any diseases, there are foods that can help protect your liver and ultimately help you avoid any further damage. It?s in your best interest to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet that includes the following:
Avoid greasy, fatty, salty, processed, sugary, raw or undercooked foods and alcoholic drinks. Although caffeine isn?t recommended, this study shows that drinking three or more cups of coffee a day helped slow down the progression of liver disease.
You should also talk with your doctor about the possibility of adding a multivitamin to your daily routine, but be sure to not overdo it with the iron and vitamins A, B3, C, and D.
Last but not least, getting vaccinated against hepatitis A and B can help prevent further liver damage.

I get too much snore in sleep. The sound is too much high as told by my spouse. Can you please help me with any solutions to reduce it.

BAMS
Ayurveda, Bangalore
Hi, please follow these tips to stop snoring: - reduce your weight if you are obese. - perform pranayama (breathing exercises) everyday. - quit smoking which irritates the mucosal layer of the nose and throat and causes blockage and results in snoring. - quit alcohol and sedatives which relax the throat muscles and results in snoring. - sleep on sides instead on back. - elevate the head by using a thick pillow which eases the breathing. - clear the nose before going to bed. - establish regular sleep pattern. - keep the bedroom air moist by using humidifier; as dry air irritates the mucosal membrane in the nose and throat. - perform throat exercises like repeating the vowels a, e, i, o, you loudly for 2-3 mins few times a day or keeping the tongue behind the teeth and moving it backwards - 3-4 times a day. - anti snoring appliances can also be used.

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS

There are several things you can do to prevent a cold. they are all easy. -Always wash your hands after coughing or sneezing into your hands, blowing your nose, after touching someone who is sick, or when using public restrooms or telephones. -Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. -Get plenty of rest/sleep.staying at home will keep you from spreading germs.Avoid people who have a cold or cold symptoms. -Drink plenty of fluids(veg/tomato soups, dal water/coconut water/herbal tea etc), and eat nutritious food(like sprouts/boiled eggs without yolk with milk). Avoid foods or drinks with caffeine which can impair your sleep -Treatment:A cold usually lasts for a week or two. Unless you develop complications, you shouldn't need medical treatment. -Complications like infections of the ears, throat, sinuses or lungs must be treated with antibiotics. -Gargle to keep from getting a sore throat. -Use saline nasal sprays or nasal irrigation. -Tablet nasorest-p once/twice daily may ease breathing. -Do steam inhalation once or twice daily

Your fasting glucose is slightly raised - its called as" pre-diabetes, but you dont need any medicines for nkw. Rest everything is ok. Dont worry. Start following a healthy diet, include salads & sprouts in your meal times, cut down on sweets, rice, oily & fried stuff and start exercising daily for 30 - 45 minutes. These lifestyle modifications will delay the chances (if any) of developing diabetes. Make sure you check your blood sugar levels every 6 months.

Call your doctor if the quality or type of headache symptoms change, or if you feel that you are having migraines, which may need prescription-strength treatment.

Other reasons to contact your doctor include:

Any changes in the type of headache you usually get.
Headaches that don?t go away or that get worse as each day passes.

Headaches that occur with physical activity (including sex).

Headaches that happen after injury or illness.

Headache accompanied by a fever, stiff neck, signs of a stroke (such as difficulty speaking, numbness, weakness), seizures, or changes in your vision.

Worsening of your headache if you have to strain, as when having a bowel movement, sneezing, or coughing.

New headaches if you?re over 50.

Headaches are miserable, but you don?t have to suffer alone. Share your problem here and you might learn a remedy or two that you haven?t tried before.
