I'm a 21-year-old student and my teeth are yellow in color to most extend. Is there any way to whiten them by visiting a dentist or some small dental procedures?

I'm a 21-year-old student and my teeth are yellow in color to most extend. Is there any way to whiten them by visitin...
Hello Lybrate user, thank you for your query. The yellowish color of teeth is generally seen due to deposits and extrinsic stains on your teeth. This can be removed with a dental procedurecalled scaling and polishing, that will restore your natural tooth color. Additionally you can also use whitening toothpastes. The yellowish color can be also due to intrinsic stains, for which the treatment would be different. So, it is important you visit a dentist for an in clinic check up for correct diagnosis and treatment.

Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need artificial enamel filling or root canal treatment. You may consult me in person too. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush.

Get Your Missing Teeth Replaced With Implants!

Multiple tooth replacement:

Individuals missing several teeth can undergo multiple tooth replacements with implant supported bridges. All lost natural teeth can be replaced with dental implants. Individual crowns or implant supported of fixed bridges can restore full functionality of the teeth with just the appropriate fit. There are several treatment options available for multiple tooth implants such as removable partial dentures, implant supported bridges and multiple tooth supported fixed bridge.

The procedure

Like most dental implants, screws and cylinders are affixed into the jaw surgically. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. Over a period of time, the implants are allowed to bond together with the bone forming anchors. Temporary teeth replacements are provided during the interim integration period. The areas are then uncovered to allow the gums to heal. Most modern implant systems do not require the second step and one-stage implants can be executed. In such a case, an implant already has a piece of extension attached.

Multiple tooth replacements

Treatment options available for multiple tooth replacements are performed with implant supported bridges. One of the most superior forms of treatments for multiple tooth replacements, this implant stops bone deterioration and are much more comfortable than any other methodology. The additional advantages of the implant supported bridges are maintenance of facial integrity and gum line is intact. Natural adjacent teeth are preserved and the implants feel and act just like original teeth. Biting, chewing and eating all substances are possible with implants. Dental implants are a permanent solution that is durable and does not require cleaning solutions or adhesives.

Bruxism and Its Treatment

BDS
Dentist,
Bruxism and Its Treatment

Occasional teeth clenching is fairly common disorder among adults and children throughout the world. But if the teeth grinding occurs repeatedly, it can cause significant damage to your teeth or gums (with chances of potential tooth loss) and overall dental hygiene. Furthermore, recurrent episodes of bruxism might cause other serious complications such as severe headaches, facial pain or disorders in the temporomandibular joints (located in the forepart of the ear).

According to recent studies, 15-33% of children tend to grind their teeth while they develop their first few pairs and generally stop with the gradual development of adult teeth. In adults, this disorder might occur as an involuntary response, completely unbeknownst to the concerned individual.

Causes-

The most likely causes of bruxism are as follows:

  1. According to the doctors, in 70% of the adults, repressed stress or anxiety might result in teeth grinding while you are sleeping.

  2. Bruxism might also occur as a result of excessive consumption of alcohol, caffeine, sleeping pills, tobacco, and selected anti-depressants.

  3. Bruxism might also occur due to depression and the sheer competitive nature in certain individuals.

  4. Bruxism might also occur due to a serious disorder such as Parkinson ’s disease.

  5. Bruxism might also occur as an axillary of other sleep related disorders such as excessive snoring, sleep apnoea, etc.

  6. If you have an irregular structural alignment among the upper and lower sets of teeth, Bruxism is more likely to occur.

  7. In children, Bruxism might occur as a response from to pain in the ear or tooth.

Treatments-

The following treatments can be implemented to treat permanent instances of bruxism:

  1. If it is caused by severe stress and anxiety, stress management therapies can be very useful to prevent Bruxism.

  2. If you have a habit of grinding your teeth while you are asleep, you can consult your doctor to provide you with mouth guards.

  3. Regulated consumption of alcohol, tobacco might help prevent Bruxism if it is caused by a side effect of either one of them. Likewise, if the disorder occurs due to a side effect of antidepressants or any other psychiatric medications, you must consult your doctor to change the particular medication.

  4. You can also opt for Dental correction procedures like night guard if the reason of the disorder is the misalignment of the upper and lower teeth or other related dental complications. A custom fit night guard will not only safeguard your comfort, but improve the quality of your smile as well.

  5. Although medications are not common, muscle relaxants (for a certain period of time) or Botox injections are prescribed by doctors when the patient does not respond to other forms of treatments. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dentist.
