What is Hair Loss?
Hair loss, also known as Alopecia or baldness, is a loss of hair from the head or body. Hair loss happens when frequent falling of hair results in thinning of the hair in the scalp. Losing hair fast may not only be a disease but it’s also due to heredity, aging or changes in the hormones.

Causes of Hair Loss:
 Hairstyles: Hair treatments with hot oils or irons, and perming, coloring, bleaching, or straightening, will weaken your hair and cause it to break off.
 Scalp infection: Infections, such as ringworm, can invade the hair and skin of your scalp, leading to scaly patches and hair loss. Once infections are treated, hair generally grows back.
 Poor diet: Hair loss may also be due to poor diet that misses out on vital ingredients like proteins, iron, vitamins and minerals and other micro nutrients.
 Stress: Stress is a body reaction that challenges and sometimes disturbs the individual’s health. Too much of stress to the body causes the hair to fall and stop growing, which will later result in hair loss.
 Side Effect of Drug: Most people know that severe hair fall is a side effect of chemotherapy drugs for cancer. But what most people do not know is that medicines for depression, bipolar disorder, and acne can also cause hair loss.
 Water: We must be aware of the regular water supply in our household. It might contain chemical compounds like magnesium, copper and minerals that can harm your hair and cause hair loss.
Home Remedies for Hair Growth
Hair fall is very common nowadays. Want to know how to beat hair loss? Here are some for hair growth you can follow:
 Spinach: Spinach is a great source of iron, vitamin A and C and protein. Iron deficiency is the main cause of hair fall and spinach is not only iron-rich, it also contains sebum which acts as a natural conditioner for hair. It also provides us with omega-3 acid, magnesium, potassium, calcium and iron. These help in maintaining a healthy scalp and lustrous hair.
 Eggs and Dairy Products: Milk, yogurt, cheese, eggs etc. are loaded with essential nutrients such as proteins, Vitamin B12, iron, zinc and Omega 6 fatty acids. Dairy products are also a great source of biotin (Vitamin B7) that is known to fight hair loss.
 Onion Juice: Onion juice is one of the best and oldest remedies to stimulate a good hair growth. The sulphur present in it does not only enhance the growth of strands, but also helps in their re-growth. Squeeze some juice out of the red onions or shallots, and apply it to your hair for about fifteen minutes. Finally, rinse off with a mild shampoo after 1-2 hours.
 Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): Apple cider vinegar cleanses the scalp and maintains the pH balance of your hair. Therefore, apply ACV after shampooing your hair. Clean scalp naturally accelerates the hair growth.
 Flax Seed: Those, who are not non-vegetarians, flax seeds are an option for them to intake omega-3 fatty acids. Flax seeds are rich in these fatty acids, therefore, are also good for hair. Soak three tablespoons of flax seeds in a bowl of water for five days. After five days, when the water has absorbed almost all the essential nutrients of flax seeds, apply the solution on your scalp with the help of a cotton ball. You will see that within a few days, your hair have started to grow thick. Eating ground flax seeds is also good for hair, skin and health.
 Coconut Milk: Coconut milk reduces hair shedding and breakage. If you want healthy and damage-free strands, use coconut milk as a natural hair conditioner. Massage your scalp with it and keep it for a night. Wash it off the next morning with cold water.
 Amla: Amla (Indian gooseberry) is considered an enriching source for hair growth. Take some pieces of dried Amla and boil them in coconut oil, boil till the oil turns black in color. Cool it and store it in a bottle. Before washing your hair, massage your scalp with this oil and leave it for 30-40 minutes. Wash it off thoroughly with warm water and a mild shampoo. Use this method frequently to prevent hair loss.
 Green Tea: Green tea is the natural source of anti-oxidants, which checks hair fall. Apply warm green tea all over your scalp and rinse off with cold water the next morning.
 Vitamin E Oil: Massage your hair with Vitamin E oil. You can also crush Vitamin E capsules that are available in the market and apply it on the scalp. This helps in enhancing the blood flow and lengthening of hair. Take this treatment thrice a week.
 Aloe Vera: Aloe vera gel, brandy, and egg together can do wonder for your hair. Mix these three and leave them for an hour on your scalp. Wash them with normal water. This remedy will make your hair beautiful, and brandy will add sheen to them.
 Henna: It is a natural hair colorant and hair conditioner. Make a mixture of henna powder, one egg and a cup of curd. Mix all these ingredients well, leave it for a night and apply the henna paste on the hair the next day. Leave it on for an hour and wash with warm water.
 Lemon: Apply the juice in the hair and add few drops of lukewarm olive oil or coconut oil. Massage the hair oil in the scalp, leave it for about half an hour and wash the hair well with a mild shampoo.
Tips to Grow Hair Fast
 Prevent your hair from too much of sun lights. Although, a fair quantity of sunlight is necessary.
 Do not take excessive stress as it may lead to hair loss and slow growth of hair.
 Use conditioner every time you shampoo.
 Circumvent the usage of strong and hard medicines unless prescribed by a physician. Medicines may possibly cause hair fall.
 Avoid using hot water on hair.

I'm underwent orthodontics, 1 month ago, 1st week, doctor suggest Amflor toothpaste, its very costly, only one week paste is over, very small 100rs, and mouthwash also over both are expensive seems to be. Pls suggest is any other toothpaste that can I use? saltwater can be use for mouthwash? Pls suggest.

If you keep your mouth clean after every meal, colgate total is good. Brush twice daily, gargle after every meal with warm water. Get an orthodontic brush for brushing from chemist. That's it. No need to buy expensive paste or mouthrinse.

I am suffering from runny nose with clear liquid from around two months. There is too much sneezing specially in morning and some other times in a day. Tips for you * take ginger & turmeric mix with honey before food * take ajvayan & jeera 1 tsp each after each meal * take hot water only * eat less then of your hunger. Take fast. It will help you for less cough production * avoid day sleep, stress, night awaking * start excersice. I need detailed history for better solution & medicine.

Negative Impacts of Lack of Sleep

Sleep is an activity where you do nothing, but rest. You relax your body and mind, you rest your bones and muscles, and you rest your eyes after a long day of physical exertion. It is extremely necessary for you to get ample amount of sleep to stay healthy. 

Sleep has two component: REM sleep and non-REM sleep. Both are required insufficient duration for proper effective sleep. Most effective and healthy sleep time is between 10PM - 3 AM. Going early to bed and rising early helps you maintain a healthy body and mind. Otherwise, there are various problems which you might have to face if you are lacking sleep.

Elevates the risk of stroke: According to study, people who get less sleep are more prone to having strokes than those who get enough sleep. If you sleep for less than 6 hours every day, you multiply the risk of having a stroke four times than ordinary.

Obesity: Lack of sleep can cause obesity. It usually forces you to take erratic food decisions, leading you to eat a lot of junk food. Less sleep administers certain hormonal changes which make you feel hungrier and believe that you haven't eaten enough food. The production of the hormone ghrelin, which controls your hunger, increases due to less sleep. Hence, it may lead to obesity if you keep eating without keeping a check on what you eat. 

Increases the risk of diabetes: Sleep and the production of insulin are inversely related to each other. Among teenagers, the less you sleep; the more insulin resistant your body becomes. This means the body is not able to use the insulin effectively. 

Increase the risk of hypertension: There is Blood pressure drop in deep sleep which is required for maintaining normal blood pressure. Patients who are hypertensive and not able to sleep properly will have more chances of having increased blood pressure despite taking medicines. 

Results in Poor Memory: Less sleep causes tiredness. When you are extremely tired, you are not able to focus on anything going on around you, you cannot concentrate on your work, and you get forgetful. In fact, consistent lack of sleep can even cause permanent loss of memory. This is because you are not being able to fully utilize the memory boosting ability of sleep. This eventually causes brain deterioration which results in permanent memory loss. 

Affects your Heart: Lack of sleep can have an extremely negative impact on your heart. Less sleep also causes stress and strain to your body and mind. It results in an increased production of certain chemicals and hormones in the body which is harmful for your heart. According to a study in 2011, people who sleep less than 6 hours every day increase the risk of having heart problems by almost 48%. It is not very healthy to sleep less as it can complicate your daily life activities. Sleep enough and stay healthy. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult the doctor and ask a free question.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned backache as your problem. If you have only localized backache with no other associated symptoms like radiating leg pain, numbness, paresthesias etc, and no systemic symptoms like fever, loss of appetite, loss of weight etc, my advice to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or even tab paracetamol which suits you - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied 3-4 times in a day - analgesic spray for local application like dynapar qps spray can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc if you do not improve in 2-3 weeks with this conservative management, we will need to evaluate you further in form of dynamic x rays to look for any instability as a cause for pain and some blood investigations to rule out any deficiencies etc. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Better you apply aloe vera daily in morning on your face rub it for 1-2 mins and then leave it for 10 mins. It will start giving your skin-glow, reduce pimples as well as marks and make it soft and moist. This is natural way, rather than using creams.

The cause of smell is growth of bacteria on site of navel I adviced you to clean navel with betadine lotion once a day. You can wash the navel with neem boiled water to get relief from smell. Wear only cotton clothes & sprinkle talc powder in the day time to decrease the sweating as sweating increase bacterial growth & bad smell.

Hi, if you have not done recent abdominal scan pls do it and make confirm regarding size and number of stones and on that basis it's better I will suggest some medications even though follow below instructions at avoid kidney stones 1) never withhold the urination, whenever you have urge with few minutes you pass it 2) drink plenty of water and even buttermilk. 3) daily drink 100ml banana stem juice in empty stomach 4. Avoid eating most of the dry fruits like cashew, almond, pista etc 5. Avoid eating tomatoes, beetle leaf and beetle nut 6. Avoid eating oily, creamy, chat masala, puffs, cakes, 7) keep your health good so that you should never face dehydration due to loose stools, vomiting even that also leads stone formation.

Hello, this may be because of acidity/ indigestion/ gas you can take 1. Tablet Meftal spas one tablet stat after food 2. Tablet Pantocid 40 mg before food once a day for 2-3 days. And follow care advises given below. Avoid food from outside, junk, fried, spicy fatty food take home made light food like moong dal, Dalia, chapatti also tell me associated symptoms like vomiting sensation, loose motion/ burning sensation in chest or any other symptoms are present or not? so that we can reach diagnosis.

Hello, we are couple had regular intercourse and did not missed middle 6-10 days of intercourse. My wife has to get her period on 23 march, 2016 and she did not had her period and after 7 days she has a bleeding. We are confused that is it a sign of period or other. Firstly get her pregnency test done, if it comes negative and bleeding was for 4 to five days then it was normal period. And if test comes positive after which bleeding occured that means it may be missed abortion. Consult doctor for confirmation.

I am 50 years young with type 2 diabetes. I am unable to control my diabetes in spite off regular medicine and regular walks. Please advice any solution o this. Average result is 140 empty stomach and 180 pp.
