How to know sinus or dust allergy .I have both symptoms .doctor prescribed me levocetirizine tab. Still I have same problem.

MS - ENT,MBBS
ENT Specialist, Kolkata
Dust allergy is partly genetic and partly environmental. Thus it never goes away. With better ,less dusty environment  the extent if the problem gets reduced. Medicines help to downregulate the immune response of your body to these environmental allergens. Long term lifestyle  changes with gradually tapering medication  helps to tackle chronic sinus problems.  Start taking Steam inhalation twice a day. *For chronic allergic rhinosinusitis you will need to take a long term course of antibiotics  together  with Nasal sprays . *You will need to avoid dusty environment  and dust mites, animal dander etc. Regular cleaning of AC air filters. Wearing mask while driving 2 wheelers/working in dusty  areas Medical  management  is done for 3 months and then patients  condition is reviewed.  Intermittent treatment is not beneficial  in the long run. Around 30 %of people with allergic rhinitis  will develop Asthma if not treated .But majority of patients with asthma are allergic to dust .Active treatment  of nasal allergy reduces Asthma attacks and medicine requirements. This improve  quality of life .allergens.

I am suffering from nose blockage. Every tyn the season changes my nose gets blocked for 24 hrs. Whole day whole week whole year. I use otrivin to breathe. And Dr. preferred for operation bt some says tht aftr some tym of operation you will suffer again ths prob. So operation is nt a gud idea. Wht should I do.

MBBS, MS - ENT
ENT Specialist, Ahmedabad
For long standing nasal blockage most important thing is to check for structural abnormalities in nose and if present needs to be corrected surgically. Secondly otrivin nasal drops only gives relief for short period but worsens your problem on long time. You must gradually reduce and stop otrivin completely. If you need surgery than it is not end of treatment but you may need treatment for your allergy after that for long lasting relief.

What medications are best for the treatment of asthma patient? What are their side effects?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi, bronchitis/ asthma can be treated well with homoeopathic medicines completely, only need to be regular with the medication and avoid those foods/ things to which you are allergic to for sometime. Keep taking your already on going medication, reduce it gradually and slowly once homoeopathic starts acting. Take bakson's astha-aid drops/ 10-15 drops in 1/2 cup water/ thrice d day for 1 month. There is no side-effects of this medicine.

Hello. Take homoeopathic medicine - schwabe's alpha-coff and glyzyrrhiza glabra 1x - both thrice a day daily for 4 days. Management: - avoid cold drinks and fried food, take healthy food. -avoid exposure to air-conditioner or cold air (wrap a warm stole or muffler around neck). -avoid excessive or rough use of your voice/ shouting. -gargle with warm water and salt 3 times a day and take steam-inhalation once before going to bed. Home remedies for cough: -stir some into some hot tea for comforting cough relief. You can also eat a spoonful of honey before bed to help calm coughs. -warm saltwater gargles help moisturize your throat, which can quiet coughs. -drink peppermint tea to help relieve coughs. -brew a eucalyptus tea by steeping a few fresh or dried eucalyptus leaves in hot water for 15 minutes. Drink this tea up to 3 times a day to help soothe a sore throat and calm coughs. -make a hot ginger tea to help soothe a chronic cough. -turmeric is a traditional cough remedy that many people have found effective for coughs. Try mixing half a teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of warm milk. You can also try turmeric powder and a teaspoon of honey for dry cough. Report back.

Does day care, preschool, etc. Have an effect on children developing allergies or asthma?

DNB(Respiratory Diseases), MBBS
Pulmonologist, Jabalpur
The matter is controversial, some children may have frequent infections acquired from other children, when they are genetically susceptible for allergy or asthma and so may have frequent symptoms, but if we go with hygiene hypothesis, if some one is exposed to allergens in childhood frequently, and gets frequent episodes of exposure to infections may also develop immunity towards them and may have lesser chances of adulthood asthma and allergies. So exactly what will happen in difficult to guess. There are many questions for which medical science still does not have definite answers, but rest assured, we doctors and researchers are working on them day and night to solve them one day.

If you are smoking. Stop that. Cough could be because of chronic allergy like allergic rhinosinusitis or postnasal drip or could be atopic.
