How can I control my snoring? My age is 26. Snoring sound high enough to make sleepless others.

BAMS

Hi, please follow these tips to stop snoring: - reduce your weight if you are obese. - perform pranayama (breathing exercises) everyday. - quit smoking which irritates the mucosal layer of the nose and throat and causes blockage and results in snoring. - quit alcohol and sedatives which relax the throat muscles and results in snoring. - sleep on sides instead on back. - elevate the head by using a thick pillow which eases the breathing. - clear the nose before going to bed. - establish regular sleep pattern. - keep the bedroom air moist by using humidifier; as dry air irritates the mucosal membrane in the nose and throat. - perform throat exercises like repeating the vowels a, e, i, o, you loudly for 2-3 mins few times a day or keeping the tongue behind the teeth and moving it backwards - 3-4 times a day. - anti snoring appliances can also be used.

DORL, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Faridabad
Medicine taking is not the solution dear, you must be taking proper medicines under guidance but if you are getting infections frequently than first thing you should get thyroid testing done, and than you may need to hydrate up your body because any symptoms of throat comes with symptoms of nose also dear the symptoms you are getting are due to dryness of the mouth, this is because of lack of mucus in the mouth which is protective layer of our mouth, and is being produced in the mouth by glands which will be helped by good and healthy blood supply to the glands, blood with good blood cells will take oxygen to the gland and gland works, they require oxygen in ample of amount, so if you do not take iron diet on daily basis than this will lead to less of mucus production and hence lead to dryness and thick mucus problem, this thick mucus leads to irritation in mouth hence leads to itching in the mouth, start taking good iron diet on daily basis, and shakes, avoid salty and spicy food.

Dizziness Vertigo and Unsteadiness

Doctor Of Physical Therapy (DPT), Bachelor of Physical Therapy
Physiotherapist, Bangalore

What is dizziness, vertigo and disequilibrium?

Dizziness, vertigo and disequilibrium are common symptoms and most of us have experienced momentary symptoms. They are all symptoms that can result from a peripheral vestibular disorder (a dysfunction of the balance organs of the inner ear) or central vestibular disorder (brain and pathways connecting brain to inner ear).
Dizziness is a sensation of lightheadedness, faintness, or unsteadiness.

It can be caused by heart disease, brain related causes like stroke, prolong illness, psychological issues, side effect of certain medications, blood pressure fluctualtions and many other condiions.

Vertigo has a rotational, spinning component, and is the perception of movement, either of the self or surrounding objects. Its a common symptom in inner ear disorders. Some of the conditions that cause vertigo are: bppv or positional vertigo, menieres, labrynthitis, vestibular neuritis, mal de barquement syndrome, perilymph fistula, toxicity of ears due to certain antibiotics, acoustic neuroma etc.

Disequilibrium means unsteadiness, imbalance, or loss of equilibrium. It can occur as a primary symptom or along wth vertigo and dizziness.

Vestibular rehabiliation can help decrease these symptoms. If you wish to know in detail please click on private consultation.

I am having cold for the past 2-3 days. Running nose, sore throat and pain. What should be the measures that I should take? These problems are recurring. I keep getting these colds often. Any suggestions?

DORL, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Faridabad
See these are the symptoms of routine infection of the nose, start taking the good iron rich diet to prevent these types of infections, get allergy testing done as aec/ige to rule out any allergic condition of the blood, and finally we need ct scan of nose and sinuses to get any nasal disease.

My left ear is getting warm like there is something inside my ear generating heat often when I use the ear phones?

DORL, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Faridabad
Obviously, this is because you are abusing your ears, using ear phones for one hour will raise bacterial count by 700 times, you will get infection of the ear, in rainy season this infection becomes more prevalent, in dry whether lke this you get heat.

I have sinus problem since 6 years I am facing some hearing problem give some solution pls.

DORL, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Faridabad
Sinusitis, is nothing but a physiological disorder of nose which led by malfunctioning of aerodynamics of nose (temporary sinusitis, secondly it is because of repeated infections of the sinus (permanent sinusitis) sinuses regulations and air conditioning of the air which we breathe and to get the benefit of above we must have normal, well sized opened sinusitis and hence nose breathing is required, those who breathe from mouth, they have tendency to get more throat and lungs infections. Recurrent sinus infection, pollution, poor diet, spicy food, long term steam inhalation from nose, and allergies leads to thick discharge from nose. This thick mucus if stays in the sinuses, it leads to irritation of the sinus skin which is mucosa and this go on growing hence leads to permanent sinusitis this extra growth is called nasal polyps this is where patient needs surgical correction. If patient comes to nose surgeon at right time, doctor can revert his/her symptoms and surgery can be abandoned. But most of the time patient comes to us after trying everything which he/she hears from neighbors, tv channels, ayurvedic or homeopathic treatment. Sinusitis if patient does not take serious steps to correct might lead to cardiac symptoms, lung diseases, etc. Once there are nasal polyps you have to go for surgery immediately. For hearing problem, this could be due to recurrent cleaning of your nose so abruptly.

Since past one month, I am feeling dizzy despite for sleeping for 7-8 hours and still tend to oversleep being unaware of the reasons behind it. Kindly provide the remedy and I shall be highly thankful to you.

Mr. lybrate-user, It would have been better had you mentioned the actual TSH values, because that would have given a clear idea as to what is referred as normal. If TSH is between 3 to 4 mU/L, then only all the symptoms are in check. Thanks.
