Dear Doc, I am 21 years old engineering student. I always feel tired and want to delay all the work. Even if I have taken a healthy diet, I am not full of energy. Follow these best methods to easily gain weight and get a healthy body - * to gain weight, first take a diet rich with proteins and fats. You should take high calories food that increase your muscle mass and induce growth in bones. Follow the diet chart in your daily life to fastly gain weight * in morning, take a glass of milk added with 2 teaspoons of bournvita or complan powder with breakfast. * after 2 hours of breakfast, take 2 bananas or a bowl of boiled soyabeans. To increase your hunger & proper digestion of food - take 10 gms powder of carom seeds (ajwain, 10 gm powder of cumin (jeera), 10 gm of rock salt. Mix them well and take 1/2 teaspoon (3-5 gm) of mixture daily after lunch * in lunch time, take 1 bowl of curd or 100 gm of cheese, a bowl of vegetable, with chapattis. You can take 2 bowl of careals (moong/chana daal) on the place of curd or cheese. * in evening, take 1 glass of milk (300 ml) with 10-12 pieces of dry fruits or 3-4 pieces of dates (khajoor). * in night, take a bowl of careals (daal, a bowl of salad with chapattis. 3. In morning, get up early and take awalk for 10-15 minutes and exercise light weight exercises for at least 30 minutes at home or gym. Exercise is very important so that muscles gain mass from the heathy diet. 4. For proper weight, proper sleep is very important. So you should sleep for 6-8 hours daily. 5. Avoid smoking & alcohol drinkg completely. I assure you that you definitely gain weight fastly by following them. Be healthy you can consult me privately for your doubts and more detailed treatment.

Depression - When Should You Visit Your Doctor for it?

Depression can wreak havoc in anyone s life. It not only brings relentless hopelessness, but can also alter the life of a person. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) reveals that more than 7% of young adults suffer from depression without their knowledge.

The cardinal symptoms of depression include feeling sad or disinterested in his or her surroundings for most of the time during the day. This may happen with or without nay stressor. Depression is also characterised by changes in day to day routines like having lack of sleep or more sleep, loss of appetite or eating more than needed, not getting happiness of previously pleasurable activities, getting annoyed and irritated easily, having abrupt mood swings, having feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, worthlessness, having death wishes and ideas for committing suicide etc.

If a person deals with the below mentioned symptoms for more than once a week, it is wise to visit a psychiatrist in order to treat it.

Eating irregularities: Loss of appetite is very common in those suffering from depression. A person might find himself withdrawn most of the time. This results in loss of interest in cooking or eating. Too many negative thoughts can curb hunger, resulting in weakness. On the other hand, depression can also lead to overeating. Affinity towards caffeine, chocolates, and ice cream dramatically increases. Studies have shown that these food items can give a soothing feeling. This being said, they are also responsible for weight gain in a person in a very short span of time.
Sleeping irregularities: A depressed person might find himself sleeping too much or too little. The disengagement from daily lives and sudden energy drop makes a person fatigued for the better half of the day, resulting in more sleep. This also serves as an escape mechanism for many. There is also the other lot who can hardly sleep due to depression. Irrational thinking and a sense of vengeance can cause this problem. This is a far worse problem. Lack of minimum amount of sleep can disturb the body s internal clock, resulting in fatigue and tiredness.
Frequent agitation: If your friends complain of frequent snapping and agitation from your end, you might be suffering from depression. A load of heavy emotion results into frequent mood swings and force a person to behave irrationally. The sense of understanding and empathy tends to take a back seat and gets replaced by irritation and pain during this phase. A person can find himself on the edge with small and little things.
Challenge in concentrating: Forgetting a deadline or losing focus in work is a common tendency witnessed if faced with depression. Concentrating on a job becomes a major challenge. Since the mind is preoccupied with negative thoughts, a person portrays risky behaviour and poor decision-making. Reiteration of the same thoughts can make concentration extremely challenging for a person suffering from depression.
Hard to enjoy a hobby: If a person finds it difficult to enjoy things he previously loved doing, he might be suffering from depression. Depression makes it difficult for a person to seek pleasure in fun activities. It creates a vicious cycle of despair and loneliness. Isolation from any company is what a patient of depression longs for.

If the spinal injury is recent, then take Natrum Sulph 30C one dose now and 2nd dose after 2 days. If it has been longer period for injury, then take Arnica 6C daily for 5 days. It should get reduced within 10 days itself. Still if you have any query, please let me know. Take care. :)

If you wake up fresh 5 hours of sleep is good enough. You should generally sleep at night, for 5 hours of sleep you should sleep around and get up at 5 - 5.30 am. Get some exercise- running, yoga or gym (cardio) and have a wholesome breakfast. For studying well, you would have to work on your study skills. Break down the content you want to memorise into smaller chunks. Stop studying the moment you feel you are finding it difficult to focus. Have lots of water. Read aloud to sustain focus. Make points and revise points before sleeping.

Fever is not considered medically significant until body temperature is above 100.4 F (38 C). Fever serves as body's natural defences against bacteria and viruses which cannot live at higher temperatures. Also, the body's defence mechanisms seem to work more efficiently at a higher temperature -Fevers of 104 F (40 C) or higher may be dangerous and demand immediate treatments like: -Acetaminophen (dolo-650 mg) twice or thrice can be used to lower a fever . Aspirin should not be used for fever in children/ adolescents or during a viral illness. -Wear loose fitting clothes and don’t overdress. Overdressing can cause temperature to rise further. -Tepid water (85 F [30 C]) baths may help bring down a fever  -The body should be cooled with a wet sponge. -A fever can cause severe dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids.. Have citrus fruits, particularly Vitamin C rich ones like mausami, Amla juice etc.  -Take light and easily digestible home cooked meals like sprouts.avoid outside food

Dear lybrate-user, - according to your height your optimum weight should be 58-63 kg. So I guess you can easily attain those figures pretty soon. But please keep this in mind that depending only upon the medicines will not serve the purpose. Please maintain a healthy lifestyle also - which is very necessary but often neglected when we deal with patients fighthing for weight-loss. Good nutritious breakfast - optimum lunch - and kight dinner is always a good habit. Be extremely strict not to have any pizza, burger, ice-cream-pasrty or any berevages or junk after 5 pm in the evening. Drink lots of juices and have more fruits. Avoid fried and deep fried things. I am hopeful that within one month you will be in the range of desired levels. This will greatly help. Although some herbal medicines might also help you but after proper history taking. Please update with your valuable feedback after 15 days.

Try voice notes for sound sleep. Start meditation. Avoid using cell phone before going to sleep atleast an hour before. Read books. Crying in not bad but without reason is worry some. Need to know more details about you so I can able to help you in better way.

Whenever I check my B.P its in the range of 150/80 for right hand and for left hand its on lesser side around 130/75 for past 1 year.
