I am having a strange kind of rash on the right side of face. It started around 8 years and since it always remains sometimes it increase and sometimes it is reduced little but never gets clear. Consulted few dermatologist and Rheumatologist. I am prescribed prednisolone for that and the dose keep changing according to the development of rash. I want to get rid of steroids. Can anyone help?

I suffer from hyperhidrosis since many years. But I do not suffer from thyroid. Should I visit a endocrinologist for help? Can they help me with my disease. Skin specialists that I visited were not able to help much.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Hypothyroidism can be well controlled with adequate dose of levothyroxine. But hyperhydrosis can hardly be cured. It can only be controlled to some extent by various measure. So even visiting an endocrinologist may not offer much of additional relief. Thanks.

Dear lybrate user, *do not take more stress. *practice yoga, breathing exercise, meditation to relax and detoxification. *do proper sleep of 6-7 hours. * add protein containing items in your foods for healthy hair growth such as take a bowl of cereal daily and a glass of milk or 100 gm cheese or 1-2 eggs. *apply and massage your scalp with mahabringaraj taila for 10-15 minutes/day, it increases blood circulation and enhance hair growth. *avoid hair colors. * take vitamin-e rich foods like dry fruits (almonds, pista etc) daily. * take 1/2 teaspoon of amla powder with water once a day. *avoid more salt, dry, maida related junk foods. *avoid more coffee, tea.

How To Get Better Sleep?

Sleep is the best reliever of all stress and physical pain. Not only is it important to get sleep, but also to sleep soundly and without any disturbance. The quality matters. Here are a few tips to get better sleep: 

  1. It is important to maintain the same sleep schedule every single day. This helps to naturalize your body clock and get the best quality sleep. 
  2. Switch off all mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices. Their artificial glow not only hampers your eyesight, but also prolongs the amount of time your body takes to relax and fall off to sleep. 
  3. If your back pain causes you to continually wake up in the middle of the night in discomfort, then sleep with a pillow or cushion between your legs so as to straighten out your back and relieve pent up stress. 
  4. The importance of your pillow can never be stressed upon enough. Your pillow should be not too fat, hard or soft. It should just about support the natural curve of your neck, so that it is perfectly aligned with the centre of your body. Correct sleeping postures are extremely important. 
  5. Make sure your room is nice and dark so as to stimulate the secretion of a hormone called melatonin that is regulated by light exposure. Darker the room, greater melatonin, making you more sleepy. 
  6. Those who exercise regularly and well are known to be fitful sleepers. Exercise well before bedtime. If required, do some light yoga or stretching exercises that promote sleep. 
  7. What you eat throughout the day makes a difference to the quality of your sleep. Stay away from too much caffeine, alcohol, or a heavy meal just before sleeping. They only make you stay awake for longer and may cause heartburn or stomach trouble. Don't drink too much water, or else you will be making more midnight trips to the bathroom than clocking those sleep hours. 
  8. Try to keep your head clear of all worries and stress when in bed. Regular meditation and deep breathing can help. 

There is no end to all the things you can do to sleep well and comfortably. It is important to be self-disciplined to sleep well and hence be a healthy individual.

Hello, having protein when you workout will give you more energy and metabolism. You might not take the supplements he is giving you, but you may take proteinex or another protein shake that you like. If you already have a good diet, just avoid oily, junk and sweet food. Take more protein. Burn more calories than you consume,

Dear Lybrate User, *Cleansing shall be one of the most important steps of your skin care routine. Even if you are not having an acne problem washing the face twice a day helps in removing dirt, oil and dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Less oil and dirt also means less acne. While washing your face never apply soap and always use a mild face cleanser. Also wash the face only with warm or cold water as using hot water can cause pimples *Siting an unpleasant pimple makes us want to pop it immediately to get rid of it. But touching and popping pimples can only accentuate the problem. Don’t let your hands touch your face very often. It can spread bacteria, cause infections or further more pimples which you certainly don’t want. *Another wonder product which you already have in your kitchen and it can help you fight against pimples is baking soda. A mixture of baking soda and lemon juice can be applied on the skin to make it pimple free. Baking soda is an amphoteric compound which means it can work both as an acid and as a base. Follow these simple steps to ensure a good sleep every night and stay away from sleep disorders and other health problems associated with unhealthy sleep habits: 1) maintain a regular sleep routine go to bed at the same time. Wake up at the same time. Ideally, your schedule will remain the same (+/- 20 minutes) every night of the week. A good sleep hygiene routine promotes healthy sleep and daytime alertness. 2) avoid sleeping during the daytime. It can disturb the normal pattern. 3) avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol near bedtime. While alcohol may speed the onset of sleep, it creates problems in he second half of sleep. 4) exercise can promote good sleep. Exercise should be taken in the morning or late afternoon. Yoga, can be done before bed to help. 5) have a quiet, comfortable bedroom. Set your bedroom thermostat at a comfortable temperature. Generally, a little cooler is better than a little warmer. Turn off the tv and other extraneous noise that may disrupt sleep. Background'white noise' like a fan is ok. If your pets awaken you, keep them outside the bedroom. Your bedroom should be dark. Turn off bright lights. Have a comfortable mattress. 6) avoid heavy meals close to bedtime. 7) ensure adequate exposure to natural light. 8) avoid emotionally upsetting conversations and activities before trying to go to sleep. Do not think of, or bring your problems to bed. 9) stop using all your digital devices and stop looking at digital screens be it mobile phones or televisions at least 1 hour before the time you plan to sleep. Instead try reading a fiction book near bedtime so it makes you help relaxed and de-stressed. Sleep well live healthy and live longer. If you have tried all these and still have problems, please consult me for prescription medication.

Why it so? You seem to suffer from depression. Depression are 3 types ; 1. Reactive depression: occurring in response to some loss, failures or poor marks or poor performance in any field like not having any GF or BF while others colleagues have. Hope- Hope not fulfilled---Hopelessness or despair---------------------Not overcome or coped----------------Depression It may be corrected by convincing and counseling, boosting confidence, improving abilities and skills. 2. Neurotic depression: It occurs more in adults due to job related and family problems while the person is in stress and problems, hopes are gone and coping mechanisms and stress management have failed making a state of helplessness. The person is depressed with disturbed routines and poor performance at work-place further exaggerating problems and depression. But he is aware of his illness and the state of all affairs of family and work place, hence, so much worried and anxious as well. Sometimes it may also occur in teenagers. Though it can be treated by psychotherapy and counseling but most often the person requires drug treatment with SSRI's plus Benzodiazepines for short time, say 2-3 months. 3. Psychotic depression: There is a genetic predisposition and a chemical imbalance of neurotransmitters dopamine, nor-epinephrine and serotonin in brain neuro-circuits between brainstem, cortex and limbic system. Patient is depressed with sad mood, thoughts of worthlessness, disturbed and over-looked routines, disturbed sleep, eating and performance. Patient is unaware to his illness and so not much worried but his family members are much worried about him. Treatment with antidepressant drugs with or without anti-psychotics is must. No cunseling or psychotherapy without drugs, works.

Please get the teeth alignment corrected by orthodontic braces. Otherwise, teeth mal-alignment may cause functional problems in chewing, speech. Also, it will result in supporting jaw bone loss and oral muscle tone disturbance. Perhaps, it will also affect your smile, look, personality. So, just go ahead with orthodontic treatment. It is safe.

You should consult a physiotherapist, and take sessions if you have allergies with painkillers. Anyhow painkillers are not good for long term use. For the time being you can use a pain relieving ointment - volini gel/ ortho pain oil, followed by a hot water fomentation before going to sleep, every night. This will help your muscles to relax. Stretch your body to avoid spasms and stiffness in neck and back.
