General Physician,
Honey excellent for Cough

A spoonful of honey can quieten children?s? night time cough and help them and their parents sleep better.

When compared to the cough syrup ingredient dextromethorphan or no treatment, honey came out on top. According to a study from Archives of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, the results are so strong that it can be said that honey is better than no treatment and dextromethorphan was not in children with upper respiratory infections (URIs). There is currently no proven effective treatment for cough due to an URI like the common cold. While dextromethorphan is widely used, there is no evidence that it works, and it carries risks.

Honey is used around the world as a home remedy for cough, and might provide a safe, effective alternative to cough medicine.

To investigate its role, the researchers compared buckwheat honey, a honey?flavoured dextromethorphan preparation, and no treatment in 105 children who had sought treatment for night time coughs due to colds. Among the three groups, children given honey had the greatest reduction in cough frequency and severity, and the most improved sleep, as did their parents. Its sweet, syrupy quality may be soothing to the throat, while its high antioxidant content could also be a factor. Honey also has antimicrobial effects.

Honey is not recommended for infants younger below one year of age because of the risk of botulism spores.

Count is normal. Always morphology and motility improvement is not possible with drugs. But what is possible is to achieve pregnancy with these sperms by special processing of sperms (iui). Many of my patients conceived by iui successfully.

I go bathroom 4 5 times in night. My sugar label is 69. Feeling heavy head. Sleepy , Weakness. Please tell.

I go bathroom 4 5 times in night. My sugar label is 69. Feeling heavy head. Sleepy , Weakness. Please tell.
Mr. Lybrate-user, if your sugar level is 69 mg/100 ml, then it is actually very low, that does not cause excess urination. But please check after food glucose level, if that is high (>200 mg/100 ml), then there is diabetes. Otherwise there may be some other reason for increased frequency of urination. Get routine urine test done for checking if there is urinary tract infection. Also get your bp checked, plus you are over weight, that also must be contributing for weakness. Please come back with all the above details, then I can be of help. Thanks for the question.

Anaemia and How It Can Affect Your Health

MBBS
General Physician, Trivandrum
Anaemia and How It Can Affect Your Health

The lack of red blood cells or hemoglobin in the blood is termed as Anemia. You may also be diagnosed as anemic is your red blood cells do not have a high enough hemoglobin count. Since hemoglobin is responsible for the amount of oxygen in our blood, being anemic results in a decreased flow of oxygen in the blood.

There are 5 different types of anemia. These are:

  1. Iron deficiency anemia: When the iron levels of the blood are lower than normal.
  2. Sickle cell anemia: When the red blood cells are shaped like a 'sickle' and hence more fragile. This is an inherited condition.
  3. Thalassemia: When the body does not produce enough red blood cells or hemoglobin. This is also an inherited condition.
  4. Megaloblastic anemia: When the blood does not have enough vitamin B12 and hence cannot transport hemoglobin through the body.
  5. Hemolytic anemia: When the red blood cells are rapidly removed from the blood due to an infection, medication or disease.

Lack of oxygen can have a serious effect on the organs of the body. Hence the symptoms of anemia are also the effects of the disease.
Some of these are:

  • Lack of energy
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Chest pain
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Abnormal heartbeat
  • Reduced attention span
  • Numbness of the hands and feet.

Anemia can also lead to a number of major health problems such as:

  1. Heart disease: Anemia is directly linked to heart disease. When the blood carries less oxygen, the heart needs to work harder to pump it to the rest of the body. Thus, people who are anemic are at a higher risk of having a heart attack than a non anemic person. Anemia can also lead to arrhythmia or a condition where the person suffers from an irregular heartbeat.
  2. Pregnancy complications: One of the first and most vital supplements prescribed to a pregnant woman is iron. Iron is essential not only for a healthy baby, but also for your own body. Anemia caused by a lack of iron can result in premature birth and a number of other complications at the time of pregnancy.
  3. Increased risk of infections: Lack of oxygen in the blood can affect your immune system by lowering its ability to fight infections. This makes the body vulnerable to diseases.
  4. Cognitive damage: Anemia in children can result in a greatly reduced attention span and weaken their memory. Sometimes, even when treated, this can result in permanent scarring and reduced IQ levels.

Fighting anemia is not hard. Consult your doctor instantly if you recognize any of its symptoms and start eating food rich in iron to fight this disease.

Dear lybrate user. I understand. You could understand that there is a deep tear inside your uterus and you had a vaginal cut. These wounds needs to be healed before you can have sexual intercourse with your husband. Usually, because you are nursing your child, it takes around two months for these wounds to completely heal. I suggest you have have sexual intercourse after 3 months of delivery. but only after having consent from your gynecologist. Take care.

General Physician,
My doctor has advised to take azilday 40 mg and metolar xr 50 mg for reducing my BP. Will the above medicines cause e...
No these will not. Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a condition in which man has trouble in keeping or getting an erection. It is a common male sexual dysfunction. It becomes more common as you get older but it is not a part of aging. MECHANISM OF ERECTION An erection starts in the brain. Physical and mental stimulation is required for an erection to begin. This stimulation causes nerves in the brain to send chemical messages to nerves which are present in the penis which results in the free flow of blood into the penis. This leads to high pressure in the penis which in turn traps the blood within both corpora cavernosa and then the penis expand. This causes the penis to sustain an erection. When the inflow of blood is stopped, then it opens outflow channels and then penis becomes soft. Then an erection is said to be reversed. CAUSES OF ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION Erection is a complex process which involves hormones, brain, emotions, muscles, nerves and blood vessels. Problem with any one of these can lead to erectile dysfunction. Sometimes stress and mental health can also lead to erectile dysfunction. Combination of Physical and Psychological issues can lead to erectile dysfunction. Some medicines like antidepressants can also cause this and if you are taking any medication you have to discuss with your treating doctor to change or stop medicine if possible PHYSICAL CAUSES OF ED •Heart disease, high blood pressure, High cholesterol. •Parkinson's disease, obesity, alcoholism, atherosclerosis. •Use of tobacco, surgeries that affect the pelvic area or spinal cord. •Treatments for prostate cancer. PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES OF ED: Depression, anxiety, stress and other mental health conditions are some of the psychological issues which causes erectile dysfunction. SYMPTOMS OF ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION •Trouble in getting erection •Difficulty in keeping erection •Reduced sexual desire To Prevent ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION By decreasing the chances of developing several diseases like diabetes, heart disease and hypertension, chances of developing erectile dysfunction can be decreased to some extent. By eating healthy diet, erectile dysfunction can be managed. By doing Exercise daily and by avoiding smoking, risk for developing erectile dysfunction can be decreased. If you do not have any diseases it is only your mind that is preventing your erection. So you need to be calm and stop worrying about it and keep on doing normally.

When heart attack came if we do not want again this action then what should we do.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
When heart attack came if we do not want again this action then what should we do.
Prevention of a heart attack before or after a heart attack- no bad fats, only good fats like a spoon of pure ghee/butter + a katori of assorted nuts to give healthy fats and proteins. No smoking/exposure to pollution. Lead a disciplined lifesyle with minimum negative tensions. Positive stress is good as it brings along good results. Loneliness is worse than bad fats. Keep busy in socially productive activities. Exercise regularly according to tolerance. Eat lots of seasonal vegetables and fruits. Reduce salt to bare minimum, avoid packaged foods as they have high salt content as preservative. Take more potassium like citrus fruits, oranges, lemons, amla, banana. You are only 24, as a social service pass on the tips of healthy living with as many people as you can get blood sugar test & total lipid profile done as a routine.

I'm very addicted to masturbation, how I can control it and is it harmful for health?

I'm very addicted to masturbation, how I can control it and is it harmful for health?
Dear Lybrate user. Sex addiction, masturbation addiction, porn films addiction etc comes under behavior addiction. Behavioral addiction is a form of addiction that involves a compulsion to engage in a rewarding non-drug-related behavior – sometimes called a natural reward – despite any negative consequences to the person's physical, mental, social or financial well-being. Diverting your mind and body away from the circumstances which compels you for the addictive habit, with the help of physical exercises, games, entertainment etc can help you. Never sleep alone. Be always with your family even at night etc are some other tips. Willpower is the key always. Behavioral therapy also works well. Take care.
