The most important preventive measures

MD - General Medicine
Sexologist, Delhi
The most important preventive measures

Here are some #preventive measures that help keep to a minimum the risk of #hiv infection and #aids thus:

  •  if operations scheduled time if you can get your own blood as preserved blood. This eliminates a possible infection by blood transfusion.

  •  avoid resorting to medical care in developing countries involving blood or the use of syringes unless it is an absolute priority.

  •  drug abusers who inject illicit drugs should use syringes for single use. They can get them in any big city for free.

  •  avoid sharing with others razors, toothbrushes and other items that may come into contact with bodily fluids.

  •  mother-child: the risk of transmission of infection by vhi in a positive mother can avoid practice one cesarean and giving up breastfeeding the baby.

  •  sexuality:

  •  #safe-sex avoid sexual practices that blood, semen or vaginal mucus secretion and / injured or diseased skin may come into contact with the couple. Always use condoms during sex. For oral sex, try not to get semen or vaginal fluid in the mouth.

  •  also avoid having sex with many different people. A monogamous relationship only provides reliable protection against hiv and aids if both have mutual trust and can talk openly about possible infidelities.

New studies have shown that infection with HPV (human papillomavirus) can promote HIV transmission through sexual intercourse. Therefore, preventing the corresponding HPV infection prevent the spread of HIV.

No danger to baby as the drug can never reach the baby. But it will not work for you if it enters blood.

Top Ways To Treat Overactive Bladder Post-Pregnancy

DNB (Urology), MS, MBBS
Urologist, Delhi
Top Ways To Treat Overactive Bladder Post-Pregnancy

There are certain changes that are noticed in the body post-pregnancy. One such change that might affect you is an overactive bladder. Usually, depending on the amount of liquid that goes into the body, an individual urinates eight to ten times a day. But post-pregnancy this statistic might increase to around ten to twelve times a day. While urinating helps the body to get rid of excessive body wastes, extreme urinating would also get rid of the necessary minerals and liquid that the body requires for its proper functioning. However, overactive bladders are quite common in women who have delivered and can be treated smoothly. Here are some of the top ways in which you can treat your overactive bladder post your pregnancy:

  1. Losing Weight: A woman gains a lot of weight post pregnancy. This weight needs to be reduced through simple exercises and a proper balanced diet. Reduction of the post pregnancy weight helps in controlling the overactive bladder to a certain extent.

  2. Avoiding Alcohol, Spicy and Acidic Food: Alcohol, spicy and acidic food actually creates havoc in the excretory system. Their compounds are such that these enable the body to get rid of water and necessary elements from the body. In fact, the power of urine itself is reduced, making discharging urine with high water content. This would make you more thirsty resulting in over-urinating at times. Similar conditions arise in the body when you consume coffee which contains caffeine and chocolate. Although, having a little bit of chocolate now and then does not really affect the system to quite an extent.

  3. Exercises: Each exercise is carefully tuned to help a particular part of the body. For reducing the over activeness of your bladder, pelvic exercises are the best that you can carry out even for thirty minutes a day. Exercises would help you to remain active, shed the excess weight as well as manage your urination.

  4. Avoid Smoking: Out of the many health hazards that arise out of smoking, one of them is the extreme urge to urinate often after pregnancy. Thus, to avoid over urination it is advised to refrain from smoking for some time.

Thus, these are some of the easiest ways to control the situation. In case you are embarrassed to go out in the public like this, you can always use incontinence pads. However, if the problem persists even after trying out all the said methods, then it would be in your best interest to take expert advice from the doctors.

Hello, Shilajit is not associated with any serious side effects. In cases where someone takes iron supplements along with shilajit, it could lead to building up of an excess iron in the blood, as Shilajit contains a pretty high amount of iron. In very rare cases, it could aggravate or lower the blood pressure. But apart from those three cases, Shilajit is perfectly safe even in higher than normal quantities. Be sure you’re getting the right stuff. It’s always a good idea to listen to your body and stop giving Shilajit, if you notice symptoms of an allergic reaction like nausea, dizziness, increased heart rate and itchiness etc. Also, if a very high dose is given, it may lead to uric acid levels which in turn can lead to higher bile levels resulting in more problems. So it’s always best to talk to your physician before taking any such supplements.

Hello. Menstrual periods are often irregular during the first few years after menstruation starts. It may take several years for the hormones that control menstruation to reach a balance. Menopause or peri-menopause is the phase when a female again faces irregular menses. Pregnancy is the most common cause of a missed period. If you might be pregnant, treat yourself as if you are pregnant until you know for sure. Use a home pregnancy test as the first step to finding out whether you are pregnant. If you are not pregnant, other causes of missed or irregular periods include: Excessive weight loss or gain. Although low body weight is a common cause of missed or irregular periods, obesity also can cause menstrual problems. Eating disorders, such as anorexia or bulimia. For more information, see the topic Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa. Increased exercise. Missed periods are common in endurance athletes. Emotional stress. Illness. Travel. Medicines such as birth control methods, which may cause lighter, less frequent, more frequent, or skipped periods or no periods at all. Hormone problems. This may cause a change in the levels of the hormones that the body needs to support menstruation. Illegal drug use. Problems with the pelvic organs , such as imperforate hymen, polycystic ovary syndrome, or Asherman's syndrome. Breast-feeding. Many women do not resume regular periods until they have completed breast-feeding. Other diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome, tuberculosis, liver disease, and diabetes can cause missed or irregular periods, although this is rare. Any nutritional deficiency can also lead to Menstrual problem/ irregularity. Take more of green vegetables, nuts, salads, seasonal fruits, yellow coloured veggies, milk & milk products, plenty of water and enough of sleep & rest. In your friend's case, it seems to be because it's been few years, she started getting her menses, so may be after few years, her menses may get regular. Let her take homoeopathic medication – Schwabe's Five Phos. And Alfaalfa Tonic – both thrice daily for 1 month.

It's too early to stop breastfeeding. You should continue at least till the age of 2 years. Lf you want to stop due to genuine reason it should be gradual.

I am suffering from stomach pain during periods. Please tell me why this pain is happen.
You are suffering from dysmenorrhoea, which is very common. It should be treated initially with meftal spas (pain killer) tablets. If the pain is too severe it should be further investigated with ultrasound, to find out the exact cause. You could be suffering from endometriosis or ovarian cysr or fibroid.

If family is complete , husband can have a blood less no stitch vasectomy done and go back to work on same day. in a woman , key hole surgery for family planning though looks like one stitch surgery only but is as traumatic as appendix surgery.she needs at least rest for 15 days. IUCD if fitted in hygeinic conditions suits a lot of women but it is scary for most women ,courtesy vans and untrained personels fitting women with it in rural areas oral pills are for short time only-3-6 months low dose like ovral ( mala d has 3 times the dose !)

I am 22 and had sex for the first time a week back. After the second or third time I initially felt like my bladder was full and wanted to urinate all the time but that went away in a day. Just to be sure I took Neil-72 the next morning even though we had used condom. I had sex again 3-4 hours later after taking the pill but this time the condom broke. So I took Neil-72 immediately and once again within three hours just in case because I was really scared about pregnancy. It's been three days now and I haven't had any side effect from the pill except that my vagina itches. I very rarely feel pain while passing urine though there has been a strong medicinal smell from it. And it has been a little cloudy too. However, I could urinate after sex. I had the problem of vaginal itch in the past when I was young but haven't had it in years until now. My partner had sex only twice with one girl but that 4 years back. Last period- 16th Dec- 21st Dec Sex- 24th Dec- 1st Jan (5 times in total) Next period due- 16th Jan. Could this vaginal itch and the medicinal odour of urine be the side effects of the pills (and the overdose)? Or is this UTI or something else? Should I get a check up? Thank you

BHMS, MD - Alternate Medicine

As far as your bladder cpmolaints are concerned then you may take homoeopathic medicine Staphysagria 200 two pills in half cup of water only one dose. Follow up if required.
