Post Surgery - Things to be Taken Care of

Post Surgery - Things to be Taken Care of

You probably think many more things can go wrong during a surgery as compared to after a surgery. However, you are wrong. The chances of infection after a surgery are very high and it used to be the highest cause of unsuccessful surgery in the past before it was known just how deadly an infection is. A doctor, however, cannot monitor everything afterwards. Therefore, it is crucial you know and take care after the surgery. Here are some ways in which you can do so:

1. Keep it dry
It is crucial that you keep the incision dry for whatever period of time the doctor tells you to keep it dry as otherwise the chances of infection increase dramatically. Some of the things you should do to keep it dry is to not take a bath, scrub the incisions or put lotions on it. In fact, you should also not expose it to sunlight.

2. Keep the incisions
You must trust your doctor as the doctor is trained and usually knows better than you. Therefore, if the doctor tells you to keep the incisions then keep them. Do not scrub, rub or put powder on them either.

3. Check for signs of infection
This may be the easiest thing to do as there are many symptoms of an infection. These include a change in the color, size, or odor of the incision, fever, redness, hardening or heating of the surrounding area or in extreme cases more bleeding and pain than usual.

4. Changing a dressing
This is a major cause of infections among surgery patients and the only way to prevent it is to follow the doctor's instructions to a tee. Once again, trust your doctor and remember to wash your hands and put on medical gloves. Do not put alcohol, iodine or hydrogen peroxide either. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor.

Try this for joint pains try this. Identify the mid point between the ankle bone and tendons and give pressure with a blunt edge on either side of your foot for 2 minutes. Also give pressure in the web between 2nd and 3rd finger from your toe for 2 minutes. Finally give a good massage for both feet in hot water. Identify the dipping portion on the back of your knee folding. Press this dip with both middle fingers and hold your knee with your thumbs for support. Please swing 20 times morning and evenings. This will relieve your problem. Consult after 10 days.

Respected Doctor, I am 42 years old man. I have dust allergy. I am having cough and runny nose and little heavy breathing after cleaning dust inside my house. What medicine shall I use. Inhaler and tablet. Kindly please advice.

MBBS, Diploma In Tropical Medicine Health, MRCP(UK)
Allergist/Immunologist, Hyderabad
Dear Mr. lybrate-user, it seems you have certainly got moderate degree of allergy to dust, as you are getting breathing difficulty after cleaning your house. Tablets and inhaler will certainly help to relieve the cough and breathing problem but they donot rduce or eliominate the allergies. As soon as you stop tablets allergy will return. To have effctive control of your allergies you need to see an allergist who will advise you properly and administer immunotherapy (vaccines against allergies) if neccessary. This is most recent and effective treatment for dust allergy.

Your father might be have suffered stroke (cause-Hypertenstion or Ischaemia ),due to which he have developed hemiplegia. Its an emergency condition ,you should attend your nearest hospital's Emergency department. Meanwhile ,keep check on your father's Blood pressure. The primary goals of stroke management are to reduce brain injury and promote maximum patient recovery. Rapid detection and appropriate emergency medical care are essential for optimizing health outcomes. When available, patients are admitted to an acute stroke unit for treatment. Feel free to ask for any further help.
