Sir/ Mam My daughter is 7 years old, recently I have noticed that she has been complaining about a burning sensation in the stomach almost every day. I didn't pay much attention before thinking she must be wanting something like ice cream, but recently it has become regular and has got me worried. One more thing she keeps on getting mouth ulcer as well, can you please help me Ms. Surani.

Pediatrician, Kolkata
Burning sensation in the upper part of abdomen and central chest Can be due to gastritis, dyspepsia. Avoid giving her oily, spicy and junk food. Try to give regular and bland diet. If it doesn't help you should visit a pediatrician .

How to Deal with Early Puberty

How to Deal with Early Puberty

Puberty is a time when a girl's body begins to define itself in more womanly terms. This is the start of a process that will usher in decades of sexual activeness and child bearing years. The changes that a girl goes through during this period can be quite challenging with a play of hormones as well as physical changes, such as growth of hair in private parts and the development of breasts, among various other changes. When these changes come at an early age, it can be all the more challenging to cope and comprehend the process. The onset of early puberty is something that is becoming more and more common with girls between the age bracket of 12 & 13. How can you help deal with early puberty? Here's a list of tips!

1. Self-Image: One of the most important side effects of early puberty remains one's image of the self, as this phase in life is characterised by the most dramatic physical changes that can leave a lifelong effect on the girl's mind. The reinforcement of positive self-image to help the girl grow more comfortable in her skin despite the wide array of feedback she may be getting from sources outside the home, will help in creating a positive impact on a lifelong basis.

2. Doubts: This is a time when the child goes through a number of doubts regarding looks and appearance as well as how well she may be able to cope with the onset of the new process. As parents, the best thing to do is to let the child explore this terrain even as you remain firmly in the background for hand holding when the child asks for it. This will help the girl become even more confident to take life's decision more efficiently and seriously.

3. Talking About It: The best thing to do is to talk things out. Once you start seeing the changes in the girl's appearance by way of hair growth and sudden sprouting of breasts and height, it is important to understand that puberty may be close by. So have a talk about menstrual cycles and the changes that the child will be seeing soon. This will help in mentally preparing the child and giving her the leeway to ask questions that you can answer over a period of time.

4. Opposite Sex: It would also be beneficial to discuss the changes in the behaviour of boys towards her, as this will help her blossom into a more confident lady in the years to come.

Remember to love and support your child through this important milestone of her life, as the way you reach can have a lasting impact on her.

Please ask your doctor to rule out gasto-esophageal reflux. That can cause persistent cough without cold.

Hello dear doc. My13 year old daughter (not pubic now, her ultrasound is ok) faint twice at school while playing in hot day. We haven't seen any symptoms of fits but as she awake after half an hour our doctor suggested test of vitamin d, EEG,MRI. After test vitamin d level show 25 in report MRI normal, EEG abnormal so neurologist suggest medicine. But before started it ,we again did EEG from other famous diagnostic centre but dis time EEG report is normal. It's really surprising in 5 days. One report shows abnormal other shows normal. Now being a mother I am really confuse. Wat to do or. Not to do.

Report of any test whether it is eeg or any other, is to be correlated with clinical findings. If faint is not suggestive/ leading clue to epilepsy type ailment, even abnormal report should not be discarded outright. Get an other eeg done and consult pediatrician. Fainting is not necessarily epilepsy. Its diagnosis solely depends on nature of faintness since there is no sign of this disease. In this case faint may be due to hot weather leading to dehydration.

And he has become very sensitive that even if he eats little more than everyday routine he wik get sick. Every doctor has given him tablets but I want to ask that how we should we make him healthier. Please don' t suggest any medicines request you to suggest natural ways what we should make him eat get stronger?

You should get his liver function test & stool test for worms done. In case of abnormality, treatment will be on the basis of reports. All essential amino acids are not present in cereals alone. Therefore you should serve him daals both times, cows milk twice and fruits 2 to 3 times daily regularly.

19 month baby 9. 750 weight ,doesnt eat properly stop to give mother milk or not?

Pediatrician, Pune
Breast milk does not provide the adequate nutrition for growth after ~ 18 months of age, try to avoid and stop breast milk, just empty sucking may give him false satiety due to swallowing of air, and he may not eat proper food required for his growth.

Poor handwriting. Difficulty remembering numbers. Trouble following a sequence of directions and telling left from right. The symptoms to dysgraphia are often overlooked or attributed to the student being lazy, unmotivated, not caring, or having delayed visual-motor processing. To diagnose dysgraphia, one must have more than one of the following symptoms: cramping of fingers while writing short entries odd wrist, arm, body, or paper orientations such as creating an l-shape with your arm excessive erasures mixed upper case and lower case letters inconsistent form and size of letters, or unfinished letters misuse of lines and margins inefficient speed of copying inattentiveness over details when writing frequent need of verbal cues referring heavily on vision to write poor legibility handwriting abilities that may interfere with spelling and written composition having a hard time translating ideas to writing, sometimes using the wrong words altogether may feel pain while writing.

I always suggest to give exclusive breast milk up to 6 months of age. Breast suckling is it self a good means to increase milk production in addition to good nourishing diet to mother.
