I'm currently under orthodontics treatment in my own college since last 5 months for slight overcrowding and twisted lateral incisors in mandibular arch. I noticed no effects of the treatment. Proximal stippling was done between premolars. I had no periodontal problems earlier. I maintain proper oral hygiene. Rectangular wire was placed 5 days ago. Today I noticed my gingiva to be edematous above the molar tubes in maxillary right quadrant. I do not wish to continue with the treatment since there are no visible effects on the tooth that was twisted. I had explained this to the concerned staff before rectangular wire was placed. They simply want to complete the case with or without prognosis and results. Is it necessary to complete the treatment? They are not willing to remove the braces without full payment. Is it possible for me to remove the braces in some other private clinic? I've noticed my teeth have become more sensitive since the treatment started. Please kindly.

Dentist, Chandigarh
Hi, your concern is valid. After proximal stripping, there are chances of sensitivity. As I do mot know your case history, I cannot comment if stripping was the only option for creating space between teeth. Stripping in between premolars is rather unheard of. Usually if required, that to with no other option, incisors are stripped. Initail 2-3 months is required for teeth to get used to the force. Tooth movement should be rather gradual or else it'll resorb the roots of your teeth. Bodily movement of the teeth would be noticeable after 7-8 months of the treatment. You can continue your treatment at a private clinic as well, but ensure that the orthodontist is well experienced and reputed and is good in talking to his patients. That'll build up your confidence in the doctor and the treatment as well. Have patience and good luck.

Medication won't be effective, you need to visit a dentist and have to place cement on your damaged enamel.

To ruled out the leucoplachia better to get done the biopsy test but clinical examination will be too necessary.

You can exercise for healthier gums as well. Gently bite down so as to make sure that your teeth make a clinking sound when they meet. Repeat this 30 to 40 times continously. This exercise will stimulate the flow of blood and will keep your gums healthy.

I am having a problem in my teeth. When I eat food it hurts or blood starts flowing. So please tell me what should I do.

Homeopath, Delhi
Hello, you can take homoeopathic medicines 1. Kreosotum 30 (4 drops in little water) thrice a day for 3 days. 2. Plantago q (10 drops in little water) thrice a day for 3 days and revert. Keep a gap of 15 - 20 minutes in both the medicines.

5 Common Toothbrushing Mistakes
Brushing your teeth is one major way to prevent cavities and keep those pearly whites looking beautiful. But if you’re making one of these common toothbrushing mistakes, your teeth might not be getting all the care they need.
1. Flossing after brushing: Everyone should floss at least once per day. But if you’re flossing before you brush, you’re leaving stuff behind that could cause cavities. Even though flossing removes food and plaque that’s stuck between the teeth, it still might be hanging around in your mouth. Following two minutes of brushing with a good floss is the solution for a truly clean smile.
2. Brushing in straight lines: Brushing in straight lines is great for some parts of your teeth, but not all. For the outer surfaces of your teeth, you should be brushing in circles in order to get the best scrub possible. For the inner surfaces of your teeth, brush in up and down motions. Finally, for the tops of your big back teeth, straight lines are the way to go.
3. Not brushing long enough: You should brush at least two times per day, but after every meal is best. And each time you brush, you should do it for two to three minutes.
4. Using an old brush: Toothbrushes need to be replaced about every 3 months. If the bristles of a toothbrush are bent, then it’s past time for a new brush. Why does it matter? Bent bristles just can’t clean the teeth as well as straight bristles. It’s as simple as that.
5. Using the wrong toothpaste: First things first, make sure you’re using a fluoride toothpaste. It strengthens the teeth and prevents cavities. Second, if you’re buying toothpaste for kids, get something fruity-flavored. Kids usually don’t like minty flavors, and might put up a fight if you ask them to brush with a toothpaste they think tastes yucky. Finally, if you have sensitive teeth, get a toothpaste with potassium nitrate. It’s proven to help with tooth sensitivity, and can make it easier to eat hot or cold foods.
If you’re guilty of one or more of these toothbrushing mistakes, you’re not alone. The good news is that now you know how to brush like a pro, and that’s going to go a long way in helping you have a healthier, happier smil

What is the reason for Mouth Ulcer and what is it's proper treatment? I mean what is the best medicine to heal it.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral And Maxillofacial Surgeon, Parbhani
If it comes once in a year then its ok. But if it happened twice or thrice in month then you have to change your life style. During ulceration take Cap. B complex once a day and Mucopain ointment for local application.

My mouth smells very much. What can I do to get rid of this. I brush twice a day with Colgate but this continues. Doctor what should I do.

BDS, CDE Endo-Prostho, CDE - Cast Partial & Complete Dentures
Dentist, Pune
Hello, bad smell from mouth could be because of deposits or food lodgement between teeth. Visit a dentist and get your scaling and polishing done. It could also be because of cold, acidity, stomach problems, not drinking enough water, not eating or fasting for long intervals. Brush twice daily, floss regularly. You can avoid it by rinsing after every 1-2 hours.

Drinking a cup of tea everyday helps in keeping the gums and teeth healthy as it contains high amounts of flouride and flavonoids which prevent harmful bacteria from sticking to the teeth.

Saving a fallen tooth can be useful. Try to keep it in place while you seek immediate medical attention. If that is not the case, try wrapping the tooth in a piece of plastic or soaking it into milk and call for immediate dental service.

There are many treatments available for bruxism, including relaxation and awareness techniques. Counselling may help to relieve stress in your life. Improving the quality of your sleep can be of benefit. This may include reducing the use of stimulants such as caffeine and nicotine, having enough sleep, making sure you have a good bedtime routine and relaxing before bed. Treating sleep apnoea in some people may also help to control sleep bruxism. There are no medications that will stop sleep bruxism. A grinding mouthguard can be made. This is like a sports mouthguard, but harder. It will help protect the teeth, muscles and jaw joint from the pressure of clenching and grinding. It will not stop bruxism and in some cases can make the actual grinding worse, but it will lessen the damage to your teeth.
